ah. right. sorry. i was goinf from memory.
that's the processor i was talking about'
you got the black edition?
-
Yeah, I did. I OC'd it by a few hundred MHz to make it on par with the 1100T (which had the exact same specs as the 1090T as far as I could tell, it was just clocked .1 GHz higher from the factory. Perhaps it was higher binned, too).
-
I thought you could use ODIN or something to unflip that flag. Supposedly you could for the Note II anyway...
It looks like they've finally figured out how to reset the KNOX flash counter (how many times you've flashed the phone) but the KNOX warranty void flag is still unsolved.
There was someone on XDA back when the N3 came out who claimed to be an insider and stated the void flag was an e-fuse. If that's correct then it's set by catastrophic metallisation failure so there is no hope of fixing that in software.
-
Yeah, I did.
good choice. even without the overclocking of the unlocked multiplier the black edition was higher binned than the regular.
i ran mine on stock speed until the last six months or so when the new games finally started stressing the poor girl more than she could handle.
it's the pattern i follow with all my desktops, get them O/C capable but leave them on standard clock until they get old enough to start slowing down, then O/C them while i start saving/shopping for the next one.
i average about four years between rebuilds that way, instead of burning out my chip in less than two as most who O/C seem to manage.
one of these years i'll switch to water cool too, as even the stock clock speeds are finally getting high enough that air cooled can have trouble keeping up (even with my massive 1.3KG copper (with five heat pipes and 2 150mm fans (finding cases that sucker will fit in is getting hard too)) heatsink)

Sheesh, and I just use the stock cooler. My temps are fine, and I only clean it about once every few months...
Anyways, any recommendations for a new CPU and mobo? Probably an FX-8### CPU? I want to pull this one (the 1090T) and the motherboard and make them into my beefiest server yet. It's been almost 4.5 years (like you were talking about) and I am noticing it's a little underpowered for some of the most demanding games or newer games on the highest settings.
-
I have just the CPU water-cooled.

CPU isn't even overclocked at the moment, it's just this is much quieter and runs much cooler.

i push my computer pretty hard, i'm quite happy with that cooler. she's seen me through several builds, the wonder of universal mounting adapters.Anyways, any recommendations for a new CPU and mobo?
hmm. i'm on Intel right now. when i built Tsukiyomi intel had slightly better bang for my buck.
my current build has:

expensive, but i felt well worth it.

I've got the base H100 and it does an amazing job, never managed to get the CorsairLink software to work though. It detected the cooler once but I couldn't change the settings
Luckily the stock settings are perfect for me, i5-2500k runs a hair under 4GHz at about 45°C.
-
Sheesh, if I decide to spend that much, I'll probably get a 5820K.

I have the H100i because the place I bought it didn't have the H100 - I'm not sure what the difference is.
CorsairLink works, although as I just use the stock settings it doesn't matter either way.
-
Sheesh, if I decide to spend that much, I'll probably get a 5820K.
I'm going to get a 6700K so I can forget about needing to upgrade for a few years.

yeah. it was expensive. but i'm quite happy with her, and i think i'll be able to get six or more years out of her.
but in any case i'm stashing away $10/month for the next one. which should mean i can get a pretty epic setup once i need to upgrade. :-D
-
Only if you can then get out 3 hours earlier.
"Can". I don't work at a slave mine or something, I just get up out of my chair and leave.
-

that is a pretty one. wasn't available when i built Tsukiyomi.
it's hard to believe i built her over a year ago now. feels like it's only been a couple of months.
-
that would explain why my 3.3GHz i7 is often found to be running at 700MHz when i'm not gaming on it...
Why do you have a trolling icon on that? That's perfectly normal.

New Vegas is more crowded and it seems everything is too much in the open.
One of my love/hate things about New Vegas is that it's not post-apocalyptic anymore. I mean, it looks it. But it's really not. The NCR is as good a government as any that exist in our real-life world, and while Caesar's Legion is obviously awful, it's no worse than a lot of regimes we had in the 40s, 50s, 60s, etc.
Basically, the artwork is the only thing that's still post-apocalyptic.

The 5820K beats the living shit out of the 6700K. It has more cores and twice the L3 cache, for starters...

And? Is more cores always better? I'm not spending my days running CPU benchmarks.
The 6700K has better single core performance, better power consumption, and if I'm upgrading I might as well go to the current generation.
-
Okay, but it has lower performance overall. Regardless of efficiency, you want power. Plus you run watercooling, so there's no concern about heat. The 5820K is also cheaper. Newer ≠ better, nobody cares what generation your CPU is if it can deliver the performance you want.
-
And? Is more cores always better?
Not when you're using shitty open source software like Audacity, which is still only single core and takes FOREVER to complete any action due to it. Pisses me off every time I have to do noise removal on an audio file.
-
so there's no concern about heat.
Indeed, I didn't mention heat.
Regardless of efficiency, you want power
The difference in real world performance isn't something I'm ever going to actually notice, so I might as well consume less electricity while I'm at it.
-
Do we have a query to see how close we are to the next for that?

If I wanted an AMD proc I'd try to hold out until the first reviews of the Zens come out next year, if I could.

FYPWCFY
not my word choice. AMD's product edition name choice.
but your SJW is noted and filed with the apropriate regulatory agencies.
-
I'll probably get a 5820K.
Let me know how that works out for you; silicon boils at only 3538K. ;)
-
Except when you have to upgrade sooner because of the lower performance.
It's like choosing a 2012 Mustang over a 2010 Lamborghini because it's "newer and more fuel efficient" when the only thing you really need to be concerned about is the speed, not the $5 in fuel savings you'll get out of it.

Status: Yay! One of my favorite unsolveable Git errors is back!
error: cannot stat "file.path": Permission denied
I love it! Usually this one solves itself with a reboot.

Hardly. The difference isn't so significant that it's going to make any noticeable real world difference now or in 4 years time.
Here's a gaming test (as that's what I'll be using it for)...
75fps vs 72.9fps (in the 6700Ks favour) and 87fps vs 89fps (in the 5820Ks favour). That's not a significant difference either way.It's all .
-
Okay, but the 5820K is cheaper by about $100 or so. Why get the 6700K if they're of at least equal performance?
-
Something probably locked the file. And since git is linux centric, dealing with that shit is likely way down on the priority list.

Right; why would they design their product to work on the OS 95% of people use? Sheer craziness!!!!!
Oh wait, maybe they're just shitty incompetent developers.

Not here, there's
£18 ($27)£24.50 ($38) difference. If that's a bigger difference in a month, things might be different.edit: Maths fail.

Newegg's prices are the reverse of the crossed-out ones. Since I have a Micro Center in driving distance I'd go for the 5820, myself.

Since I'm not driving to the US from the UK, I'll give Micro Center a miss.
6700K here is £329.60 ($499), 5820K is £305 ($461).
Maths fail on the previous post. $38.
