I don't have asura ears...

I don't think anyone will care about such details.

Do I have to get the blue/yellow armour though?

well... Wintersday is coming. Maybe Dwayna will be generous.

That's an asuran female...

Status: If it weren't for the fact that my laptop's storage hard drive's size is now 1 TB, as opposed to 750 GB, I'd never know that the previous drive failed catastrophically a few days ago.

Being 2 feet tall would be a plus.

He is a short one... but not that short. But about as obnoxiously cute as an asura. It's a good match.
So what server are you playing on?

Gunnar's Hold. My name is Blergo. What are your character names?
/cc @Arantor

Yerri Stormrider
's currently my only character, still a bit new to the GW2 thing but that's all @royal_poet's doing ;) At least Yerri is level 80 and working on some masteries.

Status why is my 3TB hard drive only showing up as 750GB? Can Windows XP not address 3TB or something? Why the fuck?
-
Essentially the answer is "No, get a newer version of Windows, you old coot."
(apparently someone made a driver that can, but it can't be your system drive.)

Srsly?
I think XP can use more than that, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn it couldn't format larger disks than that.
In any case, you're an idiot for running that antique. So I care not about your plight. I am going to point and laugh instead. Ha ha ha.

Thankfully it is a secondary drive.
It's a decommissioned machine I inherited from an old job. I haven't installed an OS in years. I guess I'll see if I have a Windows 7 key lying around somewhere.
It's a Pentium 3ghz with 4GB of ram. Don't know if 7 would even run on that.

- It was free
- It runs anything I need it to run

Not that we'll hire this guy (need someone more programming oriented), but nice to see nonetheless.
Glad. Never hire crazy people who use tabs instead of space, Tabs???? seriously in 2015. And, if your IDE does non automatically indent things for you, you are .
I didn't realize Steam users were required to buy a Android or iPhone device to not get screwed over. SUCH a bad move.
GUY SCREAMS VALVE MUST SUPPORT WINDOZEN MOBILE OS LIKE ANDROID && IOS. WHY IGNORE OUR TINY MARKET SHARE??? WHY IGNORE LUNIXEN BY STEAM TOO???
-
Fucking Windows XP. Why didn't Microsoft anticipate me wanting to use a 3TB hard drive when they wrote the OS in 2001?
Anywoes, if anyone happens to have a Windows 7 key they want to PM me, I'll gladly take it off your hands for however many "fuck yous" is the fair market price for Windows 7 these days.

And then upgrade that to an OS that's from this decade? Good on ya. I knew Sensible Canadian would win out in the end.

Yes. Therefore 8 and 10 will, too. Although if you're going to try to use it for anything I'd recommend dropping in a cheap video card, like a geforce 610 or something because whatever shit integrated graphics it likely comes with--probably 865 or something--will run like molasses. Even outside the context of gaming.
If you need an actual spare machine or something recommend gutting it and dropping in a G3258--you'd get a huge perf boost, especially if you overclock, and you could probably do it for <$100 if you get lucky on RAM prices.

Seriously. Tabs are a fucking relic from 1985. Even jwz recommends not using tabs. Agree on a corporate-wide indent width, by Thunderdome if necessary, and just use spaces like God and Bob Heinlein intended!

Why is the guy on the right wearing a helmet and the guy on the left isn't? (Boss types usually don't, so we can ignore him.)

I don't give a flying fuck what actual characters are emitted, just that pushing the tab key puts in however many of whatever they are and Backspace removes an entire indent level in one press.

Given that every even third-assed editor out there can do that these days, there's all the less reason to use actual tab characters! Shit, the half-assed ones can even auto-format correctly!
Tabs are the new buggy whips.
-
Why would I use N spaces when someone else might want to use M spaces, where N != M? If I use a tab character, there's no issue.
Tabs for indent, spaces for alignment.
-

Because for a given project or company, you--as I said--pick one indent size everyone uses!
Sure, use the tab key to do the indenting, that's fine! But no 0x09s should be written to disk.

If I can save a kilobyte of data per project, that's like a whole five seconds I can save on each git push.

Yes but you'll waste it converting your program to bit, so who cares?
Also, of course, your network connection means that 5 seconds is already lost.

Status: Upgraded my phone. Now I'm running on a G4. I keep wondering why it's so darn light.
Edit: Apparently, It has a language filter. Corrected "damn" to "darn".

Apparently, It has a language filter. Corrected "damn" to "darn".
Every Android phone I've used so far does that and other censoring--the canonical example seems to be "fuck" -> "duck".
Just add the word to the custom dictionary.
The G4's light compared to a G3? Eesh.

git push does not zip?
Tabs for indent, spaces for alignment.
They are both invisible characters. It is crazy to have two invisible characters. If by accident they get mixed you can get Lorne Katesed and for good reason.

It is crazy to have two invisible characters.
Today I had to work with an XML file that had carriage returns but no line feeds. Isn't it crazy to have four invisible characters? Oh, I almost forgot - it was encoded in Microsoft's special brand of UTF-8 that starts a file with a zero width non breaking space. Did I mention the file was created in and only ever edited in Visual Studio?
Seriously,
go fmt
yourself.
-
XML is hardly any better than binary.
Looking at the mixed-space-tab code you have there I can sense a murderous twitching in my eyes.

It's a good thing that my editor automatically formats on save, then, isn't it?

I have no doubt now. I will never touch that Go abomination. Long live Rust, long live sanity.
-
Clean that up, Ben, you slob.
-
It's a good thing that my editor automatically formats on save, then, isn't it?
If it does that there's no good reason for it not to replaces tabs with spaces as you hit the tab key.
-
Read go fmt, I cannot believe the standard formater butchers the poor code!!
-
If I need to use spaces for something, I keep backspace meaning "go back by one space", not "go back by one space unless it's in a certain position in which case FUCKING HELL etcetera"
-
gofmt -r '(ﯹ) -> ﯹ' -l *.go
means "tell me which files have unnecessary parentheses"
-
The G4's light compared to a G3? Eesh.
It might be because I don't have a case on it yet.
-
from gofmt:
Gofmt formats Go programs. It uses tabs (width = 8) for indentation and blanks for alignment.
I hated Python's reuse of indentation for scope, now I have a new least favorite language feature.
