Well, if @accalia can get the "SockBot asks for the entire content of all 50k posts in the thread in each request" thing, that should help with a bit of it.
because after about 200 post ids in the URL discourse starts sending back HTTP 414 errors.
maybe if it accepted the parameters via POST it would be better but it doesn't
-
The issues currently being discussed are showing up in the logs but not, to my knowledge, in perceived site performance. So we're learning things and making things better over all with the current strategy without any big downside.

Could try sneakily moving /t/1000 back to read-write and see if Sam notices...
-
...a thought I've had a few times.
-
Maybe it'll be gone and @ben_lubar will be working on how to import T-1000 into some other
softwarelanguage.FTFY

Filed Under: Discourse to Lojban importer, Bad Ideas Thread, etc...

... and not for nice reasons...
But it's always funny when he happens to respond appropriately.

Still seeing this:
Top 30 urls by Server Load Url Duration Reqs --- -------- ---- GET /t/1000.json?include_raw=1&track_visit=true HTTP/1.1 9597.31 4121
Does not appear to be zoidberg:
Top 30 users by Server Load Username Duration -------- -------- [Anonymous] 17749.37 94744 accalia 5949.39 6935 sockbot 5099.05 4161 PaulaBean 4017.72 13933 Zoidberg 828.47 1144

still working on this ticket which should improve matters.
Also is that report in ms (so about 10 seconds of load) or seconds (about 2.5 hours of load)
Given that the server does not seem to be experiencing huge cooties i suspect that's in ms....
-
Maybe just stop polling T/1000 completely for now then?

SPEAKING OF DISCOURSE BUGS
The "Suggested topics" suggested this thread. Even though it's been dead for 16 days.
The new count say there were 20 unread old messages. I click on the link. I am now reading message 43/61.
I'm sure this is not a new bug by any stretch of the imagination. But at least I can reply. =|
Also, the URL says Post 43 is actually Post 40. I was used to it being the other way around (the counter would show less of a number than the URL, because of deleted posts)
-
Also LOL:
The toasted said "16 days".
Right above my post it says "17 days later".
What's the Discoterm for "off by one is not off, nor one"?
-
Discocounting.

As long as each post has a consistent URL, it shouldn't matter that some are not visible to you. The consistent URL thing is a reasonable idea (not having it would actually be the bigger WTF) and the rest of the counting strangeness flows from that. Theoretically, the unique ID of the post could be used instead. Practically, what we've got is better.
Discodays are their own thing.
