Bethesda's game announcements (another BlakeyTweets topic)

My most commonly-uttered phrase over Skype to Rantis while watching the show: "who asked for that?"
"Elder Scrolls collectible card game!" "Who asked for that?"
"Fallout city builder for smartphones!" "Who asked for that?"
"Fallout 4 lets you build structures to play tower defense." "Who asked for that?"
"Fallout 4 is voiced." "Who asked for that?"
etc.
-
My God. It's like those satires on casual gaming, just real.
"Fallout city builder! Elder Scrolls CCG! Deus Ex match-three game! Half-Life Flappy bird clone!"
-
Haha.
"Fallout city builder! Elder Scrolls CCG! Deus Ex match-three game! Half-Life Flappy bird clone!"
You missed that Battlecry is pretty much a complete rip-off of Team Fortress 2. No doubt with a hat store as well.
"Hey we want to make a cute city builder game for smartphones, but Bethesda doesn't have any cute characters."
"How about that demon from doom?"
"Nah."
"Oh, how about that Fallout mascot guy? He's cutesy."
"Only because it's ironic and darkly humorous for the instruction manual for a bomb shelter to have a cutesy cartoon character mascot."
"Ok, well, there's that robot dog from Wolfenst--"
"FINE! Fallout guy it is. Sheesh."
Did you notice, a new Fallout game and they're still continuing the "200 years later" fuck-up that makes the entire universe not make any goddamned sense at all? That bothers me almost as much as giving the main character a voice.
Goddamned. That'd be like if Nintendo made a Metroid game and gave Samus a really dull lifeless voi-- oh they did that. And it was a horrible idea.
Honestly the best-looking game out of the whole bunch was Dishonored 2. It's yawn-worthy, but at least it didn't do anything to piss me off.
At least I can imagine how great those Creation Engine improvements will be if/when they're ever applied to an Elder Scrolls game. Assuming the next AAA Elder Scrolls game isn't a squad-based cover-shooter with turn-based strategy elements in a steampunk world of airships.

Hmm. That could be the first ES game worth playing.
Don't worry - won't happen.

With collectible upgrade tokens you can trade with your friends to build an upgrade deck

Where you can buy your own house and live in it, provided you buy all 500 bits of home furnishing DLC. $1 per doily.
-
But no horse armour. They learned their lesson there
-
Goddamned, that whole horse armor thing.
Numero uno example of, "if you don't like a product, just don't buy it. Stop whining like a 3-year-old because it exists." Ugh. You're bringing back bad vibes reminding of me that stupid shit.
-
I had a hacked xbox at the time that couldn't go online (also dialup, so also couldn't go online). I was watching the uproar from the sidelines with amusement. It doesn't seem too different to the skins and hats you can buy in games these days but the hate has died down a bit.
-
I just don't get why people get offended that things exist. It's not like DLC was new-- games have had "expansion packs" since the goddamned 80s. (The only new part was the DL-- now they were served from the Internet instead of on disk.)
If you don't like that the product exists, here's my advice:
-
Shut up
-
Just don't buy the product
-
Seriously, shut up about it
-
-
I just don't get why people get offended that things exist.
I think it's the whole mistaken outrage that "the developers are working on this worthless crap instead of bugfixes / real expansion packs / etc."
-
-
Really? Do those same people get angry when Ford designs a new pick-up truck because they want Ford to dedicate all their resources to making their sedans better?
-
I just don't get why people get offended that things exist.
I too often have that same reaction when discussing a certain forum software... Sure it's not the best out there but it mostly works is flashy and.... ok that's the best i can say about it, but why should i FOAD just because i don't hate it?
-
Ah, but that's different. That's personal.
-
Probably, people are people after all.
-
I'm not sure i follow that one...
you've never told me to FOAD so why would you respond as if i was talking about you?
-
Oh for Cripe's sake. Here come the mod warnings!
Boomzilla was saying "ironic" to refer to my bitching about Discourse existing, and you were obviously playing off that too, so I foolishly hit reply to your post instead of his and now... you know what? Fuck this, nevermind.
-
Boomzilla was saying "ironic" to refer to my bitching about Discourse existing,
I was thinking about a lot of things, but that was one of them.
Do those same people get angry when Ford designs a new pick-up truck because they want Ford to dedicate all their resources to making their sedans better?
Does it count when they decide to switch to aluminum bodies, making repair work harder to come by and much more expensive? I don't think it's a good example, but it's an example of people worried about some changes to Ford trucks, so...
-
So follow my advice. Just don't buy the truck if you don't like the ones with aluminum bodies. There's plenty of people who make trucks. There's plenty of people who make video games.
-
I didn't say I was bitching, but it's a legitimate bitch, if you genuinely like Ford trucks. I think it will work out, but it'll take a while, because currently few shops have the tools and know-how to work aluminum, but that will change over time.
I have zero desire to own a truck, so it doesn't bother me at all, at least until they start making everything out of aluminum, but that'll just hurry up the change over costs, so meh.
-
I didn't say I was bitching, but it's a legitimate bitch, if you genuinely like Ford trucks.
No. No it's not.
Look, the previous trucks (steel, I assume?) don't magically stop existing when the new aluminum ones come out. (The base game of Oblivion didn't magically get smaller because Horse Armor DLC existed.) So even if you do like Ford trucks you can still get one. Also, like I said, there are tons of companies that make trucks.
-
But Discourse isn't a truck, it's a car. Or is it the other way round? And where are the rainbows?
-
at least until they start making everything out of aluminum
or plastic.
my hatchback has an all plastic back so the few times a year when for one reason or another i'd like to put a sticker on the hatch to show support for some group or other i can't because it won't stick to plastic and i refuse to ruin the paint job by using the stickers. really hurts resale value those do.
long term the magnets do the same thing, but i only want a week at most out of them, maybe four five times a year... not so bad that.
-
And where are the rainbows?
not that again! it took me days to wash those out last time!
-

You could buy a used one. That's not the same.
-
or plastic.
Eh...that's just a replacement then, I'd think. Not the same as requiring $50K in new tools and different metal working techniques.
-
Eh...that's just a replacement then
yes, that's true.
but my rant was only tangential to that fact.
to wit: Plastic (and aluminium) is not feromagnetic.
-

What about window stickers?
-
You could buy a used one. That's not the same.
Well then I guess you have to make some hard choices. Either way, stop whining. The whining is the part I mainly object to.
-

No one who knows you is going to take that seriously.
-
I only whine about important shit, not completely optional $3 DLCs.
-
-
What about window stickers?
the window cling variety i use on occasion, but those aren't exactly common.
-
But you can use a razor blade on glass without causing problems.
-
I always wanted to make a bumper sticker that read:
This bumper sticker will change your opinion on religion.
But I'm too lazy and also the print would be too small.
-
But you can use a razor blade on glass without causing problems.
yeah.... i'll avoid that where the rear defroster is involved... if it's all the same to you.
-
I couldn't care less what you do with your car and your stickers.
-
The element is normally embedded in the glass itself; you can't damage it without breaking the glass too
-
Aaaaaaaaaaaa I'm having to bite my tongue SO MUCH. This self-censorship is going to give me a brain disease.
-

in modern cars yes, older cars it's sometimes just "printed" on the back.
eitehr way i'll stick to window clings that i can get off with my fingernails. much easier.
-
-
I'd say I'm sorry for derailing but that would just be lying.
-
Fallout 4 is voiced
It's always been voiced.
Oh, you mean the main character.
O.O
Bethesda.... I give you Dragon's Age 2. happened. You remember that shit? Yeah....
-
Dishonored
You mean that game where they give you a lot of options and choices, but only the choices they want you to make are any fun.
Yeah, I tried to play it as hack and slash, nope.
Tried to play it as ranged character, nope.
Tried to play it as stealth no-kill, nope. The only fun way was to play it as stealth, but whatever is convenient at the moment. Giving you the worst possible end. Not the bad ending. Not the good ending. The neutral ending, where everything you did was totally pointless.
So, play it their way, and get not rewarded.
Now try it on "hard-mode" which is really just, play it as a ghost. And it's boring as fuck, but the ending rewards you, a little. Still a fucking distopia, but at least everyone isn't dead.
'bout as annoying as Dues Ex, where letting someone kill themselves counts as a kill against you.
I did exactly what you WANTED, I took down the boss without killing them, and it was hard as....
Oh, they killed someone else, in a script, that I had no control over.how was I supposed to guess that.
Ok, I get it. Fuck morality systems.
-
Tried to play it as stealth no-kill, nope
It's great fun as a no-kill. Also gives you a lot more leeway for fighting your way out when you're seen than other stealth games if you're not intent on full-on stealth.
Dishonoured was one of my favourite games of the PS360 generation
-
-
If you succeed in a stretch, and everything went well, you felt untouchable.
But failing was sometimes impossible to control, and then you just had to reset.
So, it was either boring with no challenge, or frustratingly I almost through my PS3 through a window hard.
-
So, it was either boring with no challenge, or frustratingly I almost through my PS3 through a window hard
I found it one of the least frustrating games of that style. I don't tend to enjoy stealth games as much as I think I will, but Dishonoured ticked all the boxes for me. Every time I fucked up it felt like it was all on me rather than unfair mechanics, and if I found myself stuck there was generally another way around that I'd ignored due to getting blinkered on my chosen path.
Still, horses for courses. A lot of my gaming taste is quite far from the mainstream so I'm used to disagreeing on what makes a good game
