Nested elements
-
Continuing the discussion from testing stealth summons:
yeah, but i seem to recall that @pjh had the CSS make it display none after three levels of nesting....
That was DC - I overrode it to give more leeway here:
/** Stop nested kbd's hanging FF - duplicate on mobile to keep appearance the same https://meta.discourse.org/t/dos-deeply-nested-kbds-hangs-firefox/17991/4 */ kbd * * { display: inline-block; } div.cooked * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * { display:none; } #reply-control .wmd-controls #wmd-preview * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * { display:none; }
(20 asterisks to save anyone counting)

Stops at 18 in the preview according to the DOM inspector.
.. and at 18 in cooked it seems.

hu-uh.
well mystery solved.
thanks for looking into it.

I miss quote pyramids here. I've seen some egregious abuses of quote pyramids or quote waves on other forums and it saddens me that Discourse has to neuter them because it can't cope otherwise.
-
Petition to add a CSS style that allows abuse of all sorts of nesting. Big, small, quotes, kbd, go crazy
-
It's no fun if you can't abuse it out of the box
-
Were you around when that stuff was possible in the standard Discostyle?

Yeah, the problem is that discourse's quoting function is retarded because JDGI.
-
Though you have to admit that in theory their version of quote-pyramids is actually pretty well thought out.
It's hidden by default and to get to it you have to click on the tiny reply avatar. But it actually gives you the whole chain of replies that you would usually see in a pyramid.Filed Under: well thought out does not mean it doesn't break ever so often. But just as an idea I do kinda appreciate the feature.
-
Not quite. That works for single replies. When quoting multiple posts (Doing It Rightβ’, according to discourse), you'd need to expand quotes, which only works one level deep.
That works if people have been doing reasonable quoting, but if people have done quote-less replies to a recent post with little content, it's easy to lose track.

That's how dicsourse worked until I broke all the Firefox users' cat videos.

No response after two days. Not even a "why would you try to nest quotes?"
