Bad Twitch and Discourse Reply Layouts (bandwidth warning?)

What am I even looking at?
-
Modern society.

Someone's been looking at my retweets.
-
I'll have you know that I followed you after seeing this tweet. I.e. I was already following @BadStreamLayouts.
-
Meh, there is not even 50% of the screen cleavage cam with ~10 animated terrible gifs in various qualites and sizes.
-
We all know the source of all Internet cleverness is Blakeyrat. You don't have to lie.
-

That's against Twitch rules now. Even for men. Gender equality and all that.
-
How do you get away with showing all those oh-so-sexy ASCII characters on Hitbox?
-
I forgot how that stopped absolutely
everynobody.
It is just ... accidental...Filed Under: Then again, I haven't watched any stream like that in a while so what do I know
Addendum: I want to thank @blakeyrat and @riking for giving me a new person to stalk on twitter... because seriously!
-
Hitbox doesn't have that rule, which is why Nigma did his 24 hour shirtless sombrero stream there.
-
TRWTF is Gimp's default brushes top is newest, bottom is oldest, I did not manipulate this for a joke
-
With Blakeyrat large and in charge.
It's gonna be awful in a few years when TV commercials and indie movies start taking on the Twitch.tv aesthetic. It was bad enough when every goddamned thing was doing the jump-cuts from bad YouTube vlogs. Jump-cuts suck, guys. Even on your vlog.

What makes you think they haven't?

Canada doesn't count.

......
that looks suspiciously like Stargate SG1 imagery there.

Why is this a bad layout? It looks like a user's break screen that plays a video while they are gone.
It's busy, but if it's a break screen they are usually just silly on purpose.
-
- Comic Sans everywhere
- Chat is on top of the game
- Other images, including a translucent overlay and more text, on top of the game
- Gears image is occluding text on the bottom
- Why do you have facebook/twitter/instagram icons if I cannot click on them
-
Comic sans isn't actually a sin.
the user isn't there, it's clearly labeled replay
see above
see above
see above, twitch has panels you can click. The images are for lurkers who watch in full screenYour 'occlude' is almost guarenteed to be a text marquee.
-
Compare it to this one: (ignore the browser and player chrome)
-
You mean the speed runner who isn't on a break?
They can change scenes with a click of a button.
-
That person's break screens (well, setup and teardown):
-
Do you understand that people's layouts tend to compliment the graphics of the games they most frequently play, and that screenshot is from a minecraft player?
If you don't watch twitch often, or spend time with the community to understand the different references the break screen is referring to, you really won't understand the image and will likely see it as clutter.
But the break screens usually have a lot of relevance to their channel.

Minecraft, eh?

These ninjas are so good, they arrive 12 hours in advance.

ETA: Hanzo'd.
It took 13 hours for that post to publish
Edit: wow, I got hanzo'd as well
-
I was just acknowledging that someone made the comment before I did. I made my comment before reading the entire thread. Who, other than blakeyrat, is anal enough to read the entire thread before commenting, discounting situations where the entire thread is three short posts or something?

What if you want to make a second post?
Feature request for Discurse: a draft stack.

Feature request for Discurse: a draft stack.
How you'd (reasonably) think that would work:
- Reply to topic A, save draft
- Reply to topic B, finish post, it goes to topic B.
- Finish reply to topic A, it goes to topic A.
How it would work in Discourse:
- Reply to topic A, save draft
- Reply to topic B, finish post, it turns into a "reply as a topic" linking back to topic Q
- Draft for topic A? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
-
Well, obviously, when you do a POP on a stack it should go to a most popular topic on the forums. In your example, topic Q.
-
What if I want two posts in topic A?
-
-
What we really need is a draft heap. That way, we can post the best one regardless of when it was added.
-
non supported configuration.
It's a free country. I reserve the right to do it "wrong".

be my guest. but as far as support goes you are officially in the part of the map labeled "Here be dragones"
-
Which is why I don't wait until I hit the bottom of the thread to reply!
-

I would guess you'd make it random access as well. Much more fun that way!
...
Fuck, we're rebuilding SSDS!

You should find a good tree library first:

-
In your example, topic Q.
So everybody would be posting serious stuff in the likes thread?

- Reply to topic A, save draft
- Reply to topic B, finish post, it turns into a "reply as a topic" linking back to topic Q
- Draft for topic A? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You somehow missed the dialog box that pops up asking you "Which of the following topics did you really want to post in," while giving you only one option...
