E-mail URL was censored

Continuing the discussion from Production Maintenance from Belgium:
Oh, misunderstood. Many apologies.
BTW, let me know when you are ready to change avatars. I now have an assortment of hats to choose[1] from!
[1] To be clear, I get to choose, not so much you. ;)
The e-mail alert I got for this post contained the URL http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/production-maintenance-from-■■■■■■■/7579/8, which doesn't actually lead to the topic
And as a bonus, the censoring means the link Discourse auto-included in the post doesn't work, but the link in the right-bar does
-
FUCKING HELL WHY IS IT CENSORED FOUR TIMES AND NOT CENSORED TWICE WHEN I TYPE belgium ONCE
-
Why does it error?! The title doesn't matter in the URL.
Discourse.
-
Regexes are the best! Especially when used by buttumptious programmers.
-
it's not even a regex, just a str_replace
-
Ruby does that shit as well as PHP? doomed. DOOMED I TELL YOU.
-
Nah, the Ruby string replace function is named "gsub!".
-
Nah, the Ruby string replace function is named "gsub!".
Good thing they made function names make more sense!
-
Nah, the Ruby string replace function is named "gsub!".
This seems like an improvement. Or it might be in some universe.
-
Cover your ears - there's two versions
gsub
makes a new string,gsub!
modifies the existing one
-
Remind me again why PHP is TRWTF here.
-
Well, at least they're consistent. I guess.
-
Is
!
a common suffix in Ruby to indicate 'modifies value' rather than 'returns value'? As in, is this a consistent behaviour?I get the value of having two separate functions. It's just whether this is normal or not for Ruby or whether this is a lone wolf in behavioural terms.
-
What's next,
!important
?
-
Why does it error?! The title doesn't matter in the URL.
Taking a WAG, the path in the URL is terminated by the first ampersand in it.
So http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/production-maintenance-from- doesn't actually go anywhere...
-

Yes.
-
-
Gotcha. Hadn't seen what it does to the URL when it's actually clicked.
-
I'll raise you !continue
Google is either clueless, or double quotes do nothing anymore.
You trollling, bro?
-
Sorry, internal. Forget it.
-
-
-
There's also the ? suffix which means "this function would be named isWhatever in Java, but we named it whatever? because it saves us a byte of source code".
-
Additional Discoursistency:
-
-
-
Now, give him a bottle of brandy and a keyboard and warn all the religious.
-
```
#God {
right: 100% !important;
}FTFY
-
-
You're right. My CSS is pretty limited.
Dunno, I preferred the class. Otherwise you have to add more IDs every time more than one appears on the same page...
-
There is something religious to be said about whether or not one should be able to have multiple of that identifier.
-
Dunno, I preferred the class. Otherwise you have to add more IDs
You weren't around when Drunk @Lucas went off on people for using IDs in CSS.
-
If we keep mentioning @lucas will he ragereturn?
-
I remember something... vaguely. But I guess I was away by the time it got really heated.
Yeah, I remember that... I wasn't aware he got so enraged as to ragequit though.
-
I assume it was the more recent flamewar he was involved in that prompted that. Not that I'd know, I stayed clear out of it and "ignored" him and someone else right when it started.
-
I wasn't aware he got so enraged as to ragequit though.
Not over that. I didn't see him post a ragequit, but rumor has it he quit over the recent religion flame war.
-
Yeah, I remember that... I wasn't aware he got so enraged as to ragequit though.
He felt really guilty about it for some reason and apologized the next day. Just another chapter in the @Lucasverse.
-
Wasn't so much over the flamewar as people telling him to shut up when he wouldn't let it go after 4 days.
-
You're right; I remember now. He was trying to fan the flames back to life in t/1000 after the fire had burned itself out.
-
t/1000
Well, that explains why I didn't see it. I stopped reading that after being away for a while. That unread count scares me.
Ah, just jump back in. Ignore everything you've missed, or let a bot handle it for you.
I've been there about twice: Once by accident after it stopped displaying unread cause I'd never opened it, and once a couple weeks later to switch it to ignored.
-
-
Ah, just jump back in. Ignore everything you've missed except for liking all the posts, which is still required
FTFY, or; let a bot handleitthat for you.
I originally set t/1000 to muted, posted briefly around post 10000 (skipping the previous posts) then eventually gave in and read from the start to about 25000 before putting it to Tracked .
Your point? It is commonly known there's only one word on the block list here.
I believe @codinghorror was surprised at the time, never having expected us to use that module.
