⏱ You know you've been spending too much time on TDWTF when...
-
Also, this is an old topic. Do we have a new, similar one?
This was intended to be a place for ongoing realizations of spending too much time. It probably ought to be in Funny Stuff, though.
-
I think Likebot is the one that used to also follow blakey round liking everything he posted.
No, that's just me.
-
I see that I forgot to post this one.
YKYBSTMTOTDWTF when you wake up in the morning and the only thing you remember from the dream you were having is a Discourse edit box.
-
When you are reading an email and wish to treply so you highlight the relevant part and are puzzled why the reply button doesn't appear over the highlighted text (this BTW is one of the best features of discourse, or it would be if it were implemented saner)
-
(this BTW is one of the best features of discourse, or it would be if it were implemented saner)
Come on, AFAIR even CS had it (though it would take you to a new page, but with the quote prefilled).
-
blame CS's spam filtering that was convinced my email address was a spam one and wouldn't let me sign up....
i never used CS, i've also never met a mail client that worked the way discourse does for quoting either. in fact i've never met a mail client that had a concept of partial quoting.

Thunderbird does partial quoting, but only of a single contiguous section per message composition. Which makes sense; it's one thing that you can optimise for. The DC method also makes sense, though it's trying to do something a bit different (and it has different choices available to it in the first place, since it isn't a mail client but rather a discussion system).
The ability to quote several different posts in one is a bit “unusual”. ;)

i'm going to have to say that too. i mean CS wouldn't even let me in ;-)

I recently had a dream about Markdown bugs. I'm officially concerned about my mental health now.

-
... bad typing and no proof reading strikes again.

i'm going to have to say that too. i mean CS wouldn't even let me in
You know you could have just gotten a Hotmail address or something, right?
-
i used my Gmail address!
accalia.somethingivepostedherebefore@gmail.com!
.... maybe it was just upset that day and decided to take it out on me?
-
Maybe. I used a hotmail one, and it worked, is all I can tell ya.
-
Dunno what to tell you my gmail one definitely worked on CS.
-
hmm... well i didn't feel like adding another email address to the list of ones i have....
also if anyone actually has that email address..... sorry...
-
I just had to explain to my wife what the bad ideas topic is, after accidentally referencing it.
-
did you point and say "the bad ideas topic is that way"?
-
did you point and say "the bad ideas topic is that way"?
That would not have done much, since I was talking to her online.
-
did you point in three different directions and say "the bad ideas topic is that way"?
FTFY

That would not have done much, since I was talking to her online.
then emoji arrows?
-
ASCII arrows
-
that'll do. ;-)

Even if you hyperlinked "that way" to the thread?

I know it's not, but that phrase seems really wrong in a gchat context.

I just tried to work out how to flag someone for a whoosh on Reddit.
Also, fuck off toaster.

Actually, you can try it, but you'll probably end up on r/BestOfReports.

What's with the huge space to the left of @PJH?
-
Not sure - there's nothing obvious in /raw.

He's carrying left and needs some room on that side for his Christmas ballz

@ben_lubar - Days Since Last Discourse Bug: -1
-
It appears to be this:
a.mention { padding: 2px 4px;
-
[HA:pjh@sofa discourse]$ git blame ./app/assets/stylesheets/desktop/topic-post.scss | grep "padding: 2px 4px" -B1 74e2b8f6 app/assets/stylesheets/desktop/topic-post.scss (Robin Ward 2014-11-04 14:25:35 -0500 609) a.mention { 74e2b8f6 app/assets/stylesheets/desktop/topic-post.scss (Robin Ward 2014-11-04 14:25:35 -0500 610) padding: 2px 4px;
Been like it for a while it seems. Fixed in site CSS:
a.mention { padding: inherit; }
-
If you don't mind the padding on actual mentions, why not a tweak?
a.mention:empty { padding: inherit; }
-
YkybstmtoTDWTF when you don't remember the correct spelling of "algorithm", so you go:
-
open the nearest WhatDTWTF tab on your browser;
-
click Reply on the nearest post;
-
hit @algo,Tab,BackspaceBackspaceBackspaceShift+Ctrl+Left arrow,Ctrl+CCtrl+KCtrl+VEnter;
-
click the link "algorithm" after the words "Did you mean";
-
copy the world "algorithm" off the text input at the top of the screen.
-
-
Yup, taht's pretty wtfy. I just type my best guess into the text box and let the dictionary fix it for me.
-
And you can see that sometimes it still lets me down.

Somehow I don't think spending too much time here is the worst of your problems.
-
And you can see that sometimes it still lets me down.
i'm sorry, i don't see what you mean. you complain about the dictionary as if tit doesn't help you figure out when you used the wrong word.
-
-
would it surprise you that i did that on purpose?
no, seriously i did.
i proofread it even, just as @HardwareGeek's avatar tells me to (unless he changed it)
-

I suspected that you might have actually done that this one time.
But I was talking about spelling mistakes.

yep. of course with me it is sometimes hard to tell.
But I was talking about spelling mistakes.
i do make a lot of them. :'(

tit doesn't help you figure out when you used the wrong word.
Tits can be helpful in several ways, but I don't think that's one of them.

Not recently (for an @abarker-ish definition of "recently").
