I am done with Enom
-
Ok...it has been 10 years and it is time to let go. I am looking for a new reseller. Enom days are over...
-
I just got my own server and became my own reseller.
Parallels (supplied with my hosting package) isn't the greatest software ever, but at least I control most, if not all, of the server since I have ssh access to it.
-
I think @Webinsane is talking about domain name reseller. Hosting (dedicated server) is not a problem.

Did you call it PJHosting?
-
if he did i am sending him a box of chocolates or something.
-
No - and it's not the server where my Discourse instance is being hosted.
-
oh.
no chocolates for you! (from me... this time...)
-
No - and it's not the server where my Discourse instance is being hosted.
-
That's not how you check if a domain is free.
-
No - and it's not the server where my Discourse instance is being hosted.
-
i was going to say not anymore but it seems my DNS registrar has raised their prices 300% in the last month... it was worth $10 to be funny, but it's not worth $30.
-
$8.99 there. You should really give @PJH a chance to claim it though; he's likely still reeling from the awesomeness of the domain name and may just need a little more time to recover.
-
I wouldn't bother :)
-
$10 -> $30 is a 200% increase, if my maths are right.
-
maths were never my strong point....
-
for $30 it's not that funny.
would have been worth the $10.... maybe.
-
currect me if i am wrung
$10 -> $30 price increase by 200% of its initial price
product incurred 200% price increase$10 -> $30 product cost increased to 300% of the initial price
product is now 3x more expensive
product is now 300% more expensiveproduct cost 3x its original price
product cost 300% its original pricemaths were never my strong point....
nothing that good semantics can't fix
-
No. No. NO.
300% AS EXPENSIVE == 200% MORE EXPENSIVE.
80% AS EXPENSIVE == 20% LESS EXPENSIVE
-
semantics / marketing than thanks for correction
english was never my strong point
-
sorry, but i'm going to have to go with the 16-bit lady in the red cape on this one
(@aliceif, and the only reason i know it's 16 bit is the colour gamut used is outside that that could be rendered in 8bit graphics*)
* it could be 32 bit graphics, retro style. there is insufficient data to prove that the avatar is 16 bit only ad the 32bit colour gamut completely encloses the 16 bit colour gamut.
-
I'm with alice and accalia.
I don't know whether this error is just a new thing, or an americanism. It used to be done properly in dutch media, but nowadays the '3 times more' for what used to be called '3 times as much' is getting common...
-
No - and it's not the server where my Discourse instance is being hosted.
You could have called it PJHosti.ng. for just $ 187.07 per year!
-
Pedantry: The image is 16×16 = 256 pixels. An 8-bit color palette can contain 28 = 256 colors.
-
Yes, but unless you are encoding a 16 or 32bit colour map the colours used in that avatar cannot be represented using 8bit colours.
This is what i was referring to. The colours are outside of the gamut of colours available in 8bit colour encoding.
Edit: and you can call that counterpedantry
-

Fun fact: the EGA spec actually allows for 16 simultaneous colors from a palette of 64 colors. It's just most games didn't palette-switch. So it's theoretically possible that avatar COULD be EGA--I don't know for certain as I don't think I've ever seen the alternate colors.
-
You guys are kings of offtopic
Reasons to move from Enom: price, service, bad asp programming (something is constantly breaking)
Possible outcome:
-
maths were never my strong point....
I would put them among the same level as you spellar & pronunciation skills
-
-
-
-
I'ma just leave this full, complete EGA colour pallet here for your perusal.
-
I understand now! Windows 8 was designed to work in EGA!
-
that and @aliceif's avatar still contains colours outside of the gamut of colours available to 8bit graphics.
care to try again @frostcat?

Hercules is all that anyone needs.

Every time I see this thread I read it as "Enron" and then I think of Former Enron Advisor Paul Krugman.
-
-
I keep thinking enums, especially since I don't know who/what an Enom is

I keep thinking enums, especially since I don't know who/what an Enom is
I thought it was a Yorkshire pie.
-
I don't think anybody's bothered to explain yet what the fuck we're talking about.
Enom is a reseller of... some... thing? And I guess from webinsane's post above, they do something with .asp programming?
That's all I know.
-
I think @Webinsane is talking about domain name reseller.
^ That's the best guess I've seen as to WTF is going on.
-
But why would a registrar need/do .asp programming?
Or was that just a really roundabout way of saying their website is both in .asp and also buggy?
Either way, the point is: don't complain about people going off-topic when nobody knows what the topic even is. (We'll go off-topic even if we do know what the topic is, but you're allow to complain then.)
-
It seems the OP trusted some random third party nobody's ever heard of to not only sell them a domain and hosting but also build the site. Then the site sucked.
-
-
Sometimes I get reminded I own the domain name "webluminary.com". I really gotta use it for something.

I had a domain name from eNom once. It was a massive WTF and I moved away from them. The biggest issue was they kept auto-signing me up for obscure web services (SEO, mobile optimization, stuff that doesn't even make sense since I only used them for the domain name and not for hosting and development) without telling me and then charging my card. Thankfully (?) my credit card was stolen, had to cancel it with the bank, and then their auto-charges failed and I didn't have to go through the hassle of actually cancelling my service with them.
I still get fake email invoices for this old domain name I haven't owned or used in years.
-
don't complain about people going off-topic
Who said I was complaining Community guidelines are private matter
The biggest issue was they kept auto-signing me up for obscure web services
Still true. I am sorry I wasn't clear on who and what is Enom and why I am done with it...
-
Community guidelines are a private matter
You'll never make it as a @codinghorror with that attitude!
-
It was my daily WTF and I know my rights!
BTW he is my idol
