You can buy a Dell Core i7, but it will probably only have two memory slots, or only 1 PCIe x16, for example...which, admittedly, generally only matters if you're a gamer.
Or no PCI slot when commissioning a replacement for a machine that crapped it self but requires a second NIC. Pads were there, case had room but no actual slot hardware... And of course, I had no PCIe NICs floating around and the scientists were breathing down my neck to get it up and running for some test for some potential customer. Yay for same day shipping...

Oh, yeah, Dell hardware is full of WTFs. My last work machine had all the pins for a PCIe slot but the slot wasn't actually there. Thanks, guys.
