Why must i login with my windows account to view technet?
-
Continuing the discussion from Everything you need to know about the Shellshock Bash bug:
https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/2962393
Ok maybe this belongs in WTF not here but still...
WHY must i either open that link in incognito mode or log in to my windows account to view any windoes property.
if it's public pages, couldn't you just show me the link i wanted and then put somewhere on the page a notification that my credentials have expired and i need to log in to access my MSDN stuff?
but NOOOOOO! you've got to send me away from the page (with a 302 redirect to a 200 page) and give me a login screen with NO FLAPJACKING WAY TO SAY I DON'T WANT TO LOG IN TO VIEW THE CONTENT THAT I DONT NEED TO BE LOGGED IN TO VIEW!!!!!1!!!!one!
</blakeyrant>
This has been another pseudo bakeyrant inspired by MicrosoftTM Thank you for reading.
EDIT: We have two repro's and two no repro's on this topic.
1 repro from US, 1 from UK
1 no repro from continental EU, 1 no repro form US, 1 no repro from unknown location
-
Uh ... what?
I can't repro that.
I even tried it on my smartphone and the PC I'm using, in Firefox and Chrome.
And I don't have a microsoft account on either.
-
I have a microsoft account (because MSDN) and this browser has been logged into it (because MSDN has the software i need for my job)
so it's aggravating when i visit a link and get prompted to log in to view content that is available to the public without an account but i have an account and the browser i am currently using has logged into it so i have to log in to , and i really must stress this, to view content that i do not have to have an account to view
hence the rant. not that it's going to change anything, but at least i got to vent.
-
repro'd
-
Cannot repro.
I have an MS account (Skype, VSOnline, etc), and am currently signed into it, yet that page didn't pick up the token, nor did it prompt me to log in.
I even had a little 'Sign In' link to prove it :)
-
if this bug/behavior is region specific i'm going to have to expand my rant a bit.
Paging @algorythmics and @aliceif: What regionality are you two from?
US? UK? EU? Other?
-
UK here
-
thanks, noted!
-
EU, on the continent.
-
thanks recorded!
anyone else able to repro or not repro?
-
norepro
Location: Michigan, USA,
Browser: Firefox 32.0.3
Logged in to MSDN? No.
-
recorded.
and that more or less nukes my regionality theory because you share a region with me and yours is also same account type....
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU....
well at least ranting blew off some of that steam.
-
and for a further similarly, I downloaded Visual Studio 2013 w/ Update 3 from this browser like a week ago.
Maybe we're using different browsers? Not sure why that would make a difference, though.
-
we are, but i agree that shouldn't make a difference... shouldn't but often does...
-
That reminds me, I haven't reinstalled Chrome for... "testing purposes" since they upgraded* these machines to Windows 7.
*The upgrade involved backing up the (company mandated) Projects folder and the user profile stuff, reimaging the computer, then putting the backed up files back on the updated machine. However, it also involved deleting all .exe., .bat, and .com file as some misguided security measure. Probably because this computer is supposed to be in a higher security zone now, but developers are all given admin access to their machines...

You're Doing it WrongTM.
if this is doing it wrong do i want to know what doing it right would entail?

See the bolded parts of my last post.

See the bolded parts of my last post.
so i should rant just as much, but not at microsoft and i shouldn't call them blakeyrants?
or i shouldn't rant as much but it's kinda ok to call them blakeyrants, unless they are at microsoft?
or i should neither rant nor use any Microsoft Product, despite the fact that any gamer at all will find it impossible to do that (i am a gamer, but not as much of one as @blakeyrat for whom the rant style was christened)
ok, so i'm blowing that up a little out of proportion, but i am genuinely confused as to your exact meaning and more to the point, what you would have considered correct in the circumstances?
-
I read it as "it can't be a Blakeyrant if it's criticizing Microsoft"
-
"it can't be a Blakeyrant if it's criticizing Microsoft"
hmmm.... that could be.... but i wasn't criticizing their products, just their websites.... or do they count as products?
-
-
You people are all idiots.
I rant about the Windows Live products all the time (or at least did when I still used any.) And SQL Server's installer. And other shitty stuff Microsoft does. Like canning XNA, and fucking up the Xbox One launch to a legendary degree.
This is all easily verifiable. I don't know where you people get your stupid wrong ideas, but please stop making up bullshit and attributing it to me.
-
baleyrant into blakeyrant
i see my spelling hasn't improved.
interestingly chrome does not red squiggle underline blaleyrant for me but does blakeyrant...
You people are all idiots.
other than acknowledging that you are the source of the term blakeyrant (although not the one who coined it) what did i attribute to you in this thread?
also, is @blakeyrat a repro or norepro for the issue i was ranting about?
-
I still think a baileysrant by you could be more entertaining
-

I don't even know or care what it is. You people give me a stupid notification to visit this dumb thread, so I do, but you can't expect me to also scroll-up.
-

If i ever get a bottle of irish creme and indulge myself i promise to post the rant here.

Page views fine here, both from windows (7) and linux.
May be something specific like "Windows 8 but not using a microsoft account to log onto your local PC"?
-
windows 7 on domain account over here, but i do get your point.
-
Windows 8, US, IE and Chrome 38, no repro. Do have an MS account, have almost certainly at one point logged in to it in both browsers.
-
interestingly chrome does not red squiggle underline blaleyrant for me but does blakeyrant...
blaleyrant is a Welsh term for sheep.
-
good to know, i guess... why is the welsh dictionary installed and active then?

In the fictional universe of my made-up fact, you accidentally selected an option that enabled it.
-
possibly not far from the truth. this is Microsoft we're talking about.
