The forum only has one passable poster
-
...and that person left. :(
-
I say we change that. Right here, right now.
-
Delete @Lorne_Kates' account?
-
I say we change that. Right here, right now.
Do you mean by getting @Lorne_Kates to return or by intentionally liking a post to get it to the Passable Poster level?
If the latter, I think the attempt would fall foul of the "In a thread/situation not obviously being abused for this purpose." condition.

I was always a lateral thinker.

I was always a lateral thinker.
You're very much of the sledgehammer school of lateral thinking, aren't you?
-
Would it delete the posts/topics too, I wonder?
Because that'd really suck if it did. Disjointed conversations galore if that's the order of the day.
-
Actually, I seem to recall Jeff saying that an account couldn't be deleted after a certain amount of time, to prevent their history from just disappearing.
Edit: It might have been when they reached a certain membership level.
-
indeed. let us all like @keith's OP and get him to be a passable poster!
-

I wouldn't; the glory would definitely go to my head. I already upset @boomzilla by gloating about getting post number 500 in the questions topic, and that's not even in the same league.
-
there will be other opportunities...
and anyway i personally would aim for post
666
instead of500
or maybe
512
... that could work too
-
-
Whatever @boomzilla is aiming for next.
-
Speaking of @boomzilla, does he still like my posts whenever I say penis?
-
none of my frontpagifications have even come close to passable poster levels of likes. I have several mediocre poster awards from them, but passable is a level that seems unattainable to me.
this lack is unsexy.

Bear in mind that @Lorne_Kates's post was, essentially, a huge complaint about Discourse. Those always attract likes, but the post was unique in its epicness.
-
@faoileag achieved post 666 and @Arantor got 512. What's the next milestone?
Where? Oh, that topic... what about 888 (for good luck) or 1024?
-
It was also when complaining about Discourse was new. And few people have complained about it in quite the same way.
-
hmmm
- 768
- 1k
- 1024
- 2048
- 4096
- 8192
- 16384
- 31415 (.926...)

but few would argue that frontpagifications have not been a resounding success when they have occured, and surely worthy of being considered passable?
I think Discourse (and SE) do this wrong, they have flat numbers for badges based on one community of one size, that don't translate to others. 10 upvotes on a question/answer in board and card games is far more difficult to obtain than in SO, and the same applies here, getting a like out of you fuckers is like deepthroating a 12 inch monster to completion. achievable, but you have to be pretty efficient to manage it.
-
Your analogies never fail to horrify and intrigue me in equal measure.

It was also pretty early in the game. Passions were high and @Lorne_Kates is a talented writer.
-
well, except for the likes thread....
and most of us don't give out likes because we're trying to get caught up in the likes thread and have none left.
truly the likes thread is a barrier to readi- likes.
-

I believe I contributed my Likes when I saw them (it's possible I missed clicking the useless widget, but I do genuinely enjoy them).
-
I'm glad you like them,
I felt this one was slightly lacking though, I think it should have had something appended, but I couldn't successfully translate "you have to be pretty efficient to manage it without choking to death or drowning in a river of spunk" into a sentence that could also apply to getting likes.
-
It was also pretty early in the game.
Discourse complaints still get guaranteed likes though. For instance, I can say with complete certainty that the post following this one will receive likes, even though I've called it out in advance:
-
Discourse sucks the big one.
-
Discourse is stupid and broken and C# is Jesus.

Yeah, Jeff has a vision that all communities are the same which presumably includes size.
-
I think I got 2 mediocre posters badges and they are from my two posts in the likes-
threadtopic. (maybe one more from the webdesign is shit-rant)
There was one post I made I thought would get more likes but last time I checked it stopped at 3. And tbh I am fine with that.Filed Under: Since badges donˋt grant me any new power, why would I even care?
-
Discourse is stupid and broken and C# is Jesus.
This raises an interesting question. If you make an additional, unrelated statement when insulting Discourse, how controversial does it have to be to cancel out the otherwise guaranteed likes?
-
Discourse sucks the big one.
I'd like this, but it had too much euphemism, and I'll get more pleasure out of being contrary with respect to the preceding post.
-

I'll bet you they aren't.
-

If you derived pleasure from my post, don't you think it's only right to like it?
-

Indubitably. Sadly, I'm cut from the crooked timber of humanity and sinning is in my nature.

Let's try it out.
Discourse is stupid and broken and everyone should use PDF instead of MS Office files in all cases.
-
Discourse is awful in every conceivable way and @codinghorror has never done anything wrong
-
Discourse is the worst of the worst and it's okay to put hamsters up your bumhole.

Ooh, snap...
I think you found it.
-
Well, I donˋt discriminate against the "You get Likes"-badge.
Filed Under: Itˋs all the same to me!
-
Well, I donˋt discriminate against the "You get Likes"-badge.
I'm just saying. The Mediocre series of badges only happen outside of the Likes thread.
-
Ooh, snap...
I think you found it.
BUT the two statements are contradictory, so maybe it doesn't count?
-
so contradictions are a barrier to likes?
-
Bear in mind that @Lorne_Kates's post was, essentially, a huge complaint about Discourse. Those always attract likes, but the post was unique in its epicness.
Also, we're a diverse group here. It's not surprising that the only thing 25 of us agree on enough to hit the like button is that Discourse is an epic fail.
-
Discourse is the worst of the worst and it's okay to put hamsters up your bumhole.
baby, why bother with the hamsters if I am available?
-
Note that his passable post is about ditching this shitty forum from hell.
-
We noticed.
-
getting a like out of you fuckers is like deepthroating a 12 inch monster to completion
I was almost there and then you stopped. No like for you.
-
Note that his passable post is about ditching this shitty forum from hell.
I DONT THINK ANYONE KNEW THAT AT ALL
