The new 2^n Badges
-
Oh, I'm far enough into 2^12 that I don't have any risk of dropping out of that, but you're just making it harder for me to level up!
-
It already is. Has been for quite a while.
Oh. Ok. Carry on then.
-
Please note that topics may automatically enter the exclusion category and may result in the temporary withdrawal of a badge until you have made a sufficient number of eligible posts to make up the count.
I initially had a clause in there that automatically excluded any topics with a post count greater than a certain number. The fact that the
$X ideas
threads were closing in on those and they don't necessarily merit removal from the pool of threads that are counted, I opted instead to manually add (or rather remove) topics when the need arises.

I think that's the way to go.
-
Aha - fair enough, that does seem a better way.
-
-
Yeah those are genuinely good discussions
a little disjointed at times, but yeah good discussions. i like the evil ideas thread particularly well.
-
besides, that topic, while it is very long is actually interesting to read, while the likes thread is not... so i wouldn't (personally) categorize it as spamy.
Let me know when you can take over Discourse design specs. I'd vote you in if it counted!
It already is. Has been for quite a while.
See what I mean?
-
-
would it surprise you to know that i already knew that?
Clarification: I was trying to point out I'd rather have you managing the thresholds, not that you didn't know what was going on. English is my first language and I'm still Doing It Wrong, apparently. -_-
-

oooooooh....
now i get it.
sorry, i seem to be operating at about three cups short of maximum capacity today.

You're still a cup ahead of me, FWIW. ;-)
-
is it hangover monday for everyone here?
-
Banana bags for everybody!!
-
wait.... what? also, i can haz?
-
I'm pretty sure it's already excluded, the last sql he posted with 2^n had a 3xxx topic id in the exclusion.
-
Welcome to 8 hours ago.
-
It's been a busy day.
-
a little disjointed at times, but yeah good discussions. i like the evil ideas thread particularly well.
What about the questions thread?
-
What about the questions thread?
always on topic 100% and a hilarious read.
would read again.
...
s/would/will/g
-
besides, that topic, while it is very long is actually interesting to read,
Really? It's one of the few topics so boring that i HAVEN'T bothered to read anything in it.

to each their own i suppose. I do find it fascinating, especially the gramatical gymnastics that we play to force our responses into the form of a question. :-D
-
lots of the responses seem to be a statement with a question mark at the end?
-
well, yes, but some of them are genuine questions that are themselves answers to other questions. those are the interesting ones.
-
especially the gramatical gymnastics that we play to force our responses into the form of a question.
You mean, adding a "?" to the end of a sentence?
yes let us see you answer the exact same question phrased slightly differently!
-
Why would you add a "?" to the end of a sentence if it isn't a question?
-
Because in the questions thread, those are the rules and non-question posts get mercilessly flagged?
-
Whoosh?
-
Damn, you Hanzo'd me.
-
Let's not make this another question thread.
-
No because I intentionally answered you with a question?
-
Why don't you mosey on over to the questions thread.
-
Because I'm angling towards my 2^13 badge and that thread doesn't count.
-
Just watch, you'll start abusing the Meta category. Because of your single-handed abuse, PJH will block the entire category from the 2^n badges.
@Arantor, how could you?!
-
I'm trying not to, but it's so hard
-
That's what she said.
I just couldn't help myself.
-
You have no idea. No idea at all... but yes.
-
-
yes let us see you answer the exact same question phrased slightly differently!
I'm sorry, could you please provide your question in the form of an answer?
-
why? it's what I said after all.
I was totally guessing. I didn't actually hear you say it or see you post it.
-
I was totally guessing. I didn't actually hear you say it or see you post it.
ooooh.... right.. that was in a private message. sorry, i forget these things sometimes
-
while it is very long is actually interesting to read, while the likes thread is not.
That topic has gained the dubious honor of becoming the first, and so far only, topic that I have muted.
-
the responses
seem to beare without any doubt whatsoever a statement with a question mark at the end?FTFY
-
Hey, some of us make an effort to contort our statements into the form of a question.
-
The level of effort is highly inconsistent. (One might even say it's Discoursistent.) There are some legitimate questions. There are some statements modified with "What if?" or "How about?" or "Is it true that?" or something of the sort. However, there are many that don't exhibit even that minimal effort, and simply tack a question mark to the end of a blatant statement of fact or opinion, thereby forming an grammatically incorrect sentence, barely meeting the letter of the rule, and not at all its spirit. (Though as a non-participant, I should, perhaps, refrain from commenting on the spirit of the rule; that is for the participants to decide.)
-
If it can be asked as a question, it's allowed. Yes, a number of mine are grammatically incorrect but at the time I couldn't think of anything to continue the conversation and legitimately ask a question at the same time.
-
The level of effort is highly inconsistent.
I fully agree. That topic wore me out, which is why I haven't been terribly active there. Plus, the general subject matter doesn't interest me much.
-
There were a couple of times as I was reading the part I read that I thought about replying, but what I had to say didn't make any sense as a question, except by simply tacking a ? onto the end of a statement, which I think is stupid.
Plus, the general subject matter doesn't interest me much.
That's why I muted it. I got tired of seeing it popping up to the top of my unread list when I had no intention of reading it.
-
I am sorry I could not live up to your expectations of civilised discourse. Perhaps you should ask Jeff next time?
-
Not that it didn't meet my expectations. But I'm not actually interested in every subject. Say, for instance, someone starts talking about the pros and cons of various network wiring schemes. zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
