The 'Work Around Discourse Bullshit' thread (2)

I wasn't aware of that. So MS is so embarrassed of their product that they will not even identify with it.
Actually, their official reason was something along the lines of "We think browser sniffing should be stopped, so we're going to make it harder."
-
I thought it was they didn't want sites to detect IE and apply a bunch of workarounds that were no longer relevant and broke the site working in IE.

That might be the unofficial reason. I was just mentioning the official line I heard.

I thought what I said was an official reason Microsoft gave, just in better terms and a little misdirection applied.
Actually, I think what both of us said are reasons they gave.

In that case, it makes what I ran in to even more of a WTF. It was a MS application that we were working on. RDS if I remember correctly. I know the JS was named renderscripts.js.

Just in from meta.d:
Not even the courtesy of an @mention to draw my attention ot the fact you're x-board quoting me? Tsk...

Yup, they specifically tossed out the MSIE string to break existing sniffing overnight. I'm not even bothered that they did, because IE 11 is sufficiently non-sucky that it's worth trying to write decent code again.
-
Yeah. We are finally getting past having to write two websites. One for IE and one for everything else.
-
Ah. Well then.

The sad part is, no, I'm not. It's just that I thought TDWTF had broken Discourse so many ways it couldn't find many more left.
As long as they're using this regex powered markdown crapmare, I think it's pretty safe to say that we'll have bugs for days.

We should try anonymizing it enough to get it on the front page, and then reveal afterword that it is Discourse ...
Make up another company/forum software name & keep everything else as is. That just might make it...
