The opposite of infinite scrolling
-
No scrolling. Or, not enough scrolling. When this page renders for me, I can only read the first paragraph.
-
You scroll down and you hit the next article almost immediately. There's too many WTFs.
-
Was about to post this in the bad ideas thread.

No repro. One paragraph; end of document.
I think it's just a short, one-paragraph bio, but it completely lacks any indicator as to whether there is more, or not; it just ends abruptly.
-
Don't make me record a video demonstrating this.
-
Don't make me record a video demonstrating this.
I also can scroll down and get more articles.
What's really atrocious is that if you scroll up & down a few times across the same two articles, their site will randomly embed a video ad in between the two articles where no ad existed the first time through.
-
Notice the scrollbar, and words being cutoff.
-
Try pressing j.
-
Notice the scrollbar having plenty of room on my screen:
Clearly a screen size issue, your screen is DOINGITWRONG™
-
Also, load the page and immediately try to scroll up - Nothing, right?
Now scroll down until a new article loads, then scroll back up... forever... YOU CAN HAZ INFINITY CREATED.

That policy has worked out about as well as those who are trying to take advantage of "the right to be forgotten".
-
The article that I originally read on CNet was much better. Mostly (but not entirely) because you could read all of it.
-
Yowza.
"CANCEL AT YOUR OWN RISK! Cancellations must be made via email and you must receive a response from us for a cancellation to be accepted at all. cancel@unionstreetguesthouse.com. There will be a $35 charge for any cancellation (per room). Cancellation of a reservation must be made at least 15 days prior to your arrival date for a non wedding reservation to receive any type of refund. Cancellations made within 15 days will be charged for the entire length of stay. 100% of your reserved stay will be billed to your credit card when we accept your online booking. Early departures and changes in arrival dates are considered cancellations. We reserve the right to refund at any time. Wedding guests are not refunded until after the event."
The rooms actually look kind of interesting, but these people are insane.
-1 Would not stay ever.
-
Take a look at an archived version to see what their policies were before things blew up for them.
-
It's a wonder a crazy bride hasn't killed them all by now.
-
In the few minutes I have been glancing over their reviews on Yelp, they have went from 229 reviews to 262. I am guessing they are Doing It Wrong.
-
Crazy policies are a barrier to hoteling.
-
Another one for bad ideas: You can talk about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but all of the words you would use to talk about it are blacklisted and therefore offensive.

Oh! It's a Turing machine! You just need to get it started!
Stuck in the initial state myself.
-
Disable adblock. It seems to block the infiniscrolling.

Ads are an anti-barrier to reading?

Ads are an anti-barrier to reading?
It's either shitty code, or a very clever way to force people to turn off ad blocks. Or, you know, not realize it and hit CtrlW. Or realize it and hit CtrlW.
I personally run adblock because I sometimes find one of those stupid generic copy/paste blogs that actually has a solution to a problem I'm facing, but it was copied from somewhere deep within some forum so it's actually useful. Other than, you know, the ad spam.
My main requirement for an adblocker is a big, easy to press "off" button that works per-site so I can disable it on any site I frequent and want to support. But doing this kind of shit, intentionally or due to stupidity puts you on my shit list immediately.

You expect site owners to test their ad-supported site with AdBlock installed?

You expect site owners to test their ad-supported site with AdBlock installed?
Awesome. I don't think we've had one of these on discourse yet.
-
:cough: ben :cough:

You expect site owners to test their ad-supported site with AdBlock installed?
No, I just don't even know how to write a code that will break when adblock is active, when the actual site is not blacklisted in any way.
-
Oh no, this is at least an order of magnitude more dumb than the AdBlock debate. This is the "sites should TEST FUNCTIONALITY WITH ADBLOCK INSTALLED debate.
-
No, I just don't even know how to write a code that will break when adblock is active, when the actual site is not blacklisted in any way.
I assume that not knowing how to write the code is the first step to Doing It Wrong™.
-
I found your problem.
The rest of the source is pretty fugly too, and several base64 images with this slash behavior.
The article HTML is all escaped with whacks too.
-
Well then. o_O
-
Oh... so that's how you break it. Good enough explanation for me.
-
Jesus Christ on a crutch...
That is just...nasty. Par for the course for being put together by a WordPress chop shop I suppose.
-
Just posting to see what will happen here.

What the fuck, it's morphing before and after click lol

@PJH might have missed an override on
:visited
...
-
But the real question is:
Does it spin?
-
-
How does it even wrap like that?
It bleeds! MAGIC IS POSSIBLE!
... Unless there was a recent patch that changed it from a normal textbox?
-
-
-
Every site I've written, I tested with AdBlock enabled.
Because I always have AdBlock on and I forget it's even there.
Bonus Discourse WTF: I wanted to know how to do small text in Markdown. The top answer is apparently subscript tags!
-
<small>?
-
Testing small tag
Sweet. If only Google had found me that instead of sub.

We have like 5000 posts using it. Pay attentiontm
Filed under: Completely Oblivious

Because paying attention is Doing It Right™, and we don't take kindly to those kind here!

@PJH or somebody just patched TDWTF install, and that highlight around links is obnoxious.

It is. That's why I undid it with my custom stylesheet. Just wish I had that option on mobile.
