The "fa-spin" Testing Thread

I know he proposed an improvement. Wasn't sure it actually got applied.
He said he did something. I wasn't paying close enough attention to know exactly what he did. Whatever it was, it obviously wasn't enough to actually fix the broken-by-design-ness.

v1 is only three weeks out? Don't you think that is a bit optimistic?
v1 is just a label, a number.Come one, when Discourse arrived at TDWTF, "beta" would have been a euphemistic description an at that time it had already been live at BoingBoing for a year.
-
But 1.0 is one of those milestone labels, indicating a certain expectation of 'doneness' for which Discourse is a long, long way away.
And I think it's going to be a long, long time
Till touch down brings me 'round again to find
I'm not the man they think I am at home
Oh, I'm a Discourse hater
Discourse, I'm burning out of hate up here alone
-

For you. For @kodinghorror, Discoarse probably is an extremely advanced piece of software he is proud of. Might be Dunning-Kruger syndrome, though.
-
I propose we rename that the Jeff Atwood effect. It absolutely is the epitome of coding horror.
He is extremely proud of Discourse. Fuck knows why. If I'd built Discourse and it was in this state, I'd be embarrassed.
-
This is not Dunning-Kruger, @ codinghorror is knowledgeable enough to tell when software is good or bad. I think it's probably a case of giving too much weight to your own opinions/experiences compared to what other people tell you, and a bit of self-delusion.
-
If I'd built Discourse and it was in this state, I'd be embarrassed.
Wrong mindset. If I'd built Discoarse, it wouldn't be in this state.
-
@ codinghorror is knowledgeable enough to tell when software is good or bad.
You know, I sometimes have sever doubts about that.
-

Yeah, but BoingBoing caters to the type of crowd that I dislike. They also do not fucking use Discourage there. I mean, it is installed, but no one uses it. I just checked a random sampling of
click baitarticles on BoingBoing and they all had less than 10 comments. If people actually fucking used Discourage on the site, and were technically competent to realize what a fucking bug even was, they might have made it farther there. Which leads to another discussion, what constitutes a bug and what is part of Jeff Dickweed's
social engineeringconcept of how things should work?
-
Well, that's true enough. I wouldn't have created such a monstrosity either, but I was trying to get across the fact that even as average as my skills are, I couldn't be proud of something like this.
Agreed on BoingBoing. Jeff seemed surprised that they didn't get much engagement there, but in hindsight this isn't a surprise.
-

It's only a bug if @Sam sees the post, otherwise if Jeff sees it then it's CANTFIX, WONTFIX or OUTOFSPITE.

You forgot ASDESIGNED.
-
And PETULANTMANCHILD
-
SOCIALENGINEERING would be a good one for him also.
-
It would if he had the skills to actually do it.
-
Do not be surprised if he goes all Frankenstein and re-animates some Nazis to achieve his means.
-
With green goo from a UFO? Does that include getting zombie Nazi cows into his evil army?
-
+1
Consider this a stand in for my used-up likes.
-
-
-
It's a fine line, denoted by PEDANTICDICKWEEDERY.
-
Is there any difference between that and ASDESIGNED?
Sure. The behavior of the search control is ASDESIGNED. The 404 error that @PJH posted on meta would be NOTABUG. Or is that one CANNOTREPRODUCE?
Filed Under: Jeff should be labeled CANNOTREPRODUCE
-
The 404 error that @PJH posted on meta would be NOTABUG
The one @Sam fixed? That would suggest it's not NOTABUG.
Filed under: Double negative = doing it right
-
Hey, I just noticed, you can't spell pedantic dickweed without CDCK in that order.
-
-
-
The one @Sam fixed? That would suggest it's not NOTABUG.
Filed under: Double negative = doing it right
But that was on the second filing, after Jeff stubbornly insisted it was NOTABUG. We're talking about Jeff's labeling, before Sam's involvement.
-
Ah yes - good point.
-
Honestly, it's all YOUREDOINGITWRONG, finer granulation is not needed in Jeff's book.
-

True, true. Though it's sometimes phrased as "WRONG FOR REASONS"
-

Sorta, but not quite.
The first filing was NOTABUG, the second was CANNOTREPRODUCE. Or FAILINGTOSEEWOODFORTREES. Or IMIGNORINGREPORTSFROMTDWTF - I can't exactly tell.
Until, as pointed out previously, @Sam fixed it anyway on the second filing.
-
Unfortunately we also had to deal with FAILINGTOSEEATWOODFROMSANITY.
-
True, true. Though it's sometimes phrased as "WRONG FOR REASONS"
We must take these little gifts from The Great Atwood as a sign of his benevolence towards us, mere mortals, and revere them as the rare gems they are.
And every once in a while, we might even be given a blog post link, so we may read the revelation of truth and have our hearts forever changed.

I CAST OUT YOUR FALSE GOD

@Onyx has fallen! He's got Discourse Syndrome so bad he's praising @kodingwhorror. May @Onyx live long in our memories!
Yes, I know he wasn't serious.
-
I have merely seen the folly of my ways. For what are the FSM's infinite noodly appendages for if they cannot infinitely scroll?
-
-
I hope that's not aimed at me. I was denouncing Atwood as a false god.
You're not... a believer are you?
-
-
good.
That reminds me, we need a term for believers of Jeff. Justin Bieberface has Beliebers. We need something for those who follow and preach the ways of the coding horror.
-

Fools.
-
Well, yes, but I was hoping we could give them a semi-cool-sounding name that we can use to mock them without them realising we're mocking them. In the same way Belieber is really a term of self-selecting idiocy, or Directioneer.
-
Twatwoods.
-
Twatwoods.
I wanted to say Atwoodians, but this is so much more epic that not only will I concede, I will deem it being worthy of +41.

He's still got my address you know.

Surely
public enum BugStatus { CANTFIX, WONTFIX = CANTFIX, OUTOFSPITE = CANTFIX, ASDESIGNED = CANTFIX, YOURDOINGITWRONG = CANTFIX }
… and so on?
-
He's still got my address you know.
Well, that's your problem.Filed under: well, he could google mine

No, not in Jeff's case.
