CodingConfessional VS Jeff Atwood
-
CodingConfessional is joining in on the "fun".
Jeff "Stack Overflow" Atwood really gets on my tits with how clever he thinks he is.
Anonymous #1:
Jeff Atwood is that fat, loudmouthed guy you work with who insists on bloviating over his half-baked ideas because he's mistaken "confused" for "controversial"
Anonymous #2:
I didn't have much of anything against the guy until his botched rollouts of the piece of shit bloatware that is Discourse. The rollout on thedailywtf.com is especially indicative of his shitty attitude as of late.
Anonymous #3:
The facebook style link embedding discourse has is pretty cool. The endless scrolling, the general bloatedness, the look and feel, and the performance are all basically crap, but some optimizations and theming could fix a lot.
Anon 4 is me, before I though to share it here. So.... some anon wants to step up? :-)
-
The software is weak? You're weak.
-
Given the level of comments there, I wouldn't even give them right to complain.
Filed under: Jeff is our plaything and we're not letting anyone make fun of him aside from us
-
Damn it Jeff, now you killed Youtube too.
We leave him alone for 5 minutes...
-
Mirroring here for posterity. There's no greater barrier to reading than having a discussion about a dead link.
Anonymous #5:
He's not even trying, anymore. His only response to criticism seems to be I'm-trying-so-hard-to-be-witty-except-I'm-really-not versions of "u mad, bro?"
Anonymous #6:
I am also pissed off by the Discourse debacle. I've lurked the site for around 3-4 years now, checking for new articles daily and reading through the forum. Whilst I've never felt compelled to engage in the conversation, I always enjoyed the read. This is over now because I can't read this wank software easily from the crappy technology I have available to me and can't pick-up where I left off by simply remembering a page number between reading some pages while taking my morning shit and then lurking some more later when I'm bored as fuck in work. Jeff Atwood is the worst programmer ever because his requirements elicitation consists of checking his own scrapbook of things he's seen that look good, cross referencing these with his personal agenda and then implementing these as a fuck you to all browsers, standards and users which get in his way. Seriously you cunting nob-shite you've ruined the site. I hope you're proud. Also, I'm not making an account. Stop being a part of the forced account culture. You dick.

Setting yourself up for a Godwyn rebuttal. :-)

I'm sure we can get you in on the action, but you need to start a flame war or two first.
Filed under: you're doing it wrong

I would say it's definitely by design that we're nudging longer term lurkers to create an account.
That opens the door to eventual replies and contributions, though there is no obligation to ever reply, of course -- you can gain trust level 1 just by reading.

And now I am trapped in here and feel compelled to 'like' everything in a certain thread and stuff like that.

That after complaining that no one seems to post on "The Official "Likes" Thread" any more? Ts.

I've basically given up on that thread. It was just too silly.

Wait till badges are working, its going to be silly++.
You would use the "Good Post" badge to navigate through interesting posts on the forum that got more than 25 likes ... aka every post on the let's abuse likes topic.

Be sure to allow us to define our own tags and allow markdown syntax inside, for maximum fun.
BTW, another pearl of wisdom from codingconfessional.com:
Anonymous #7:
I feel the same about guys like Kent Beck, Martin Fowler, Uncle Bob Martin? These guys write books containing gobbledygook - e.g. the granule of reuse is the granule of release - and tech leads adopt them as gospel and heaven help those who don't follow their one true path.

I need my fix!
more than 25 likes ... aka every post on the let's abuse likes topic.
That's not true. Most posts have only around 10 likes. There aren't many people we can endure that long.
-
And now I am trapped in here and feel compelled to 'like' everything in a certain thread and stuff like that.
Yes, moar likes!
-
If we had badge creation abilities in Discourse I would create/assign you the 'I'm compelled to like things' badge but we don't have that in our science project.
Edit: Not yet!
-
I think the likes thread deserves a badge all it's own.

Anonymous #8:
Anon#7 gets it right. Atwood & Friends may be good at programming, but they've got Stockholm Syndrome and the managerial ethos bleeds into everything they do.
Anonymous #9 (which may or may not be Nagesh based on comment)
Jeff HadWood has a clever gimmick, that is making him tons of money. All of you are "loosers."
blakeyrat:
I BELIEVE IN SAYING THINGS IN A NON-ANONYMOUS WAY.
I miss @blakeyrat
Anonymous #5:
Good for you, Blakey. It looks as though you've had enough coffee. Probably time for you to go back to the job hunt.
I would like to admit that I was one of the Anonymous people here.
-
I am Anon #9. Good call. How did you make this guess?
-
Someone posting as "Not an anonymous commentator"
I know very little about Atwood but Discourse really is horrible in its current state.
-
I would like to admit that I was one of the Anonymous people here.
Which one? @Arantor
-
That would be telling.
-
-
I would never impersonate @blakeyrat.

I have added another comment to that heap of igno rants.
-
And just to keep the quoting going...
Since i am outed anyway.:
I think discourse will mature as more communities are willingness to adopt the software. -Nags he.
-
Jeff Atwood:
I think having anonymous comments where anyone can assume any identity is a barrier to reading.
-
As opposed to creating throwaway accounts, of course, that achieve precisely the same purpose but just take more effort.

+1
Since that site doesn't have a way for me to like something I feel the need to express my sincere appreciation of that comment.

Something like that, yes.
And following on the quoting - Anonymous #10:
Didn't know there were so many TDWTF readers here. That, or TDWTF is the only site that actually uses Discourse.
The fact that a lot of TDWTF readers frequent Coding Confessional is not really a surprise to me.
-
I learned that FreePBX forums switched to Discourse while I was writing about Asterisk stuff. The amount of useful stuff I found there was low to begin with. I feel that now it will pummel down below absolute zero.
-
In the meantime, in the CodingConfessional VS Jeff Atwood thread...

Didn't know there were so many TDWTF readers here. That, or TDWTF is the only site that actually uses Discourse....More brave anons chime in...
blakeyrat:
I DID NOT WRITE THE ABOVE MESSAGE. IT DOESN'T EVEN MAKE SENSE.... Are the job interviews getting the best of @blakeyrat? Is he finally losing touch with reality? ...
Jeff Atwood:
This is an example of why anonymous comments don't work. Read my explanation at http://blog.codinghorror.com/welcome-back-comments/And is that the real Jeff Atwood, or another clever clone? How can anyone tell!?
Tune in next time for more valuable anonymous comments, only in the CodingConfessional VS Jeff Atwood thread!

Nobody can. Remember Hadwood blog on Gordian knot of identity.

Honestly, I don't believe it.

C'mon, it's obvious isn't it? @nagesh is real and @codinghorror is just his sockpuppet. Why do you think @codinghorror has been doing such expert level trolling? He's a comedy genius!

I wonder if @blakeyrat gets notifications for these quotes...

People, as it turns out, are pretty lazy.I have never posted on Coding Confessional, or used IRC.

The first is mostly true, but the second is definitely lying.
-
I have never ... used IRC.
It was the first truly global online community, so you might have missed something there.I recall an epic night (and day) when I spent 24h nonstop chatting in one chatroom... there were always people coming and going, discussions started and abated, new discussions started...
This thread is a bit like that ;-)
