I have set the category from Uncategorized to General. Try it now?
Was there a default cat for you when you posted the new thread?
-
as there a default cat for yo
No idea. I've been too busy trying to figure out how to quote nested quotes.
-
@dhromed can you fix my topic too? I swear I put it in General Discussion, but I must have somehow clicked on the "put this in a forum I don't have access to" button.
Edit: thanks @PJH

It was apparently 'uncategorized' - I'm guessing the hoi-polloi don't have access to anything in there, or rather anything that isn't actually in a "there". I may have a poke around later...

And yet it's the default category!
Hooray!

Sorted - I hope - disabled "allow uncategorized topics".

Finally discovered the quoting functionality. This software rocking. I like it.

See the following threads, where many reasons not to like are discussed at great length:

Miscellaneous reasons are discussed in other threads, but those are the main ones.

Always anything that is new is hated by few and liked by few. People are resisting change just like people everywhere. I am always for change. Youth of my country are for change, so we elect Mr. Narendra Modi to be the next prime minister of India. Without change progress is not possible. Getting stuck in one timeline will cause things to go out of control. You must move with times to keep things in balance.

I prefer being stuck in a bowl of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey stuff.

You use linear time? That's got strictly limited expressivity. I prefer CTL* myself.

I understand how Intercourse could seem cool if your country doesn't have indoor plumbing.

Does he talk to dirt, walls, and ceilings too?Filed under: Sometimes dirt has insects in it. Not so good for conversation, but much protein for diet.

It is clear that your knowledge of my country is limited. No worries. With enough reading material available today, anyone can learn almost anything, if one is having the will to try. Without will, you will keep thinking about how your life is stuck in one spot and no where to go.

Calling people names is like living in last century. In this century we don't use words like "Dalit" to denigrate anymore. Just like AmericaN culture don't socially accept certain words, Indian culture is also changing.

Not really true. There are many words that are perfectly okay to use, unless you're a white male in which case you'll be perpetually labeled as a bigoted racist.

Reclamation of the language has led to the term 'nigger' being used by some in the black community and terms such as 'cripple' are sometimes used humorously or sarcastically by people with disabilities. But this usage may still cause distress within these communities and is also much more likely to cause offence when employed by someone who is not a member of the community in question.
You couldn't make this shit up; the fact that the BBC actually have these guidelines....
(I was actually looking for a reference I heard/saw on last week's HIGNFY where it was stated that it was apparently vaguely acceptable to use the word if it ended with -a but not if it ended with -er, with Jo Brand attributing the quote to "...some wanka.")

I'm part black so I'm reclaiming the n-word from you.

You can't call people "Dalit", but we can, because it's not insulting in our culture.

I thought "Dalit" was the non-offensive term. What is it acceptable to call them? Surely "untouchable" is no longer acceptable.

All "non-offensive" terms end up becoming offensive.
Doctor 1: Hmm.. "Mongoloid" is kind of offensive, both to Chinese and to the brain-damaged.
Doctor 2: Let's call them "mentally retarded", since their mental development has been retarded. It's cold and clinicial and nobody could ever be offended by that.* time passes *
Kid: Hey retard, eat a bag of dicks!
Teacher: Timmy, that's not nice! You shouldn't call people "retard", that's offensive. Nowadays we know better and call them "special" kids.* later *
Different Kid: Hey, watch out for Jamie, he's "special"!
Different Teacher: Johnny, that's not nice! "Special" is hate speech. Now the socially-acceptable term is "dumber than a shithouse rat".And just you watch--"dumber than a shithouse rat" will one day be offensive to people, as hard as it is to believe.
-
Surely "untouchable" is no longer acceptable.
That depends on whether it's hammer time.

Just call them people. Why is caste of any concerning nature to anyone?
Temples are now open to everyone
-

Unfortunately yes, but to stay political correct is name of game.
-

Caste, per se, is not of "any concerning nature" to me. Specifying which group of "just call them people" I'm talking about is. Typing "that specific group of people formerly called X, but now it's considered politically incorrect to call them by any name, so I have to type this whole phrase every time I want to refer to that group" is a little inconvenient.
-

Sorry*, I don't play that game.
