Frist! And Welcome
-
Welcome to what.thedailywtf.com, the new home of the TDWTF forums.
It'll take a little getting use to... but it does have the advantage of being actively developed and working in modern browsers.
-
OK, just because someone's going to have to say it: Discourse is TRWTF. ;)
-
idk, I'm quite the fan of Discourse... I even gave some feedback on the early betas ...
-
What's the rationale for disabling Google/Yahoo logins? They don't require any configuration other than not unticking the box that enables them.
-
Google and Yahoo are awful, Ben.
-
Well, there's also GitHub authentication that can be enabled, since we all know everyone on TDWTF likes git.
-
Baby, don't make me hit you. I don't like it when you make me hit you.

Filed under: [wrap text in markdown links to the current page]()
-
Clicking that just takes me to a blank page, presumably an error.
-
So tags work the same, then?
-
Looking at the source, it appears they are just ordinary links (that don't go anywhere — href="")
-
Zing!
-
A new chapter of skulduggery has just begun. MWUAHAHAHA.
-
Things I hate:
-
The little box telling me to be nice. I'm already nice, I don't need software to remind me.
-
No signature guy
-
It auto-converts my emoticons into stupid icons. :( :(
-
It let Ben L. use a screen shot from what looks like Dwarf Fortress on his profile page.
-
-
I agree. There's no signature guy. I liked the buggy old thing.
-
#5) When I try to set my "About Me" in my profile, the "Save Changes" button does not work.
- Why the hell was that text so big? Is this markdown? Booohisss!
Filed under: FUCKING HELL WHY DOES IT MAKE MY TEXT BIG WHEN I START A LINE WITH "#5"??
-
- Profile page: "download archive of my posts" -> "That feature hasn't been implemented yet, sorry!"
-_-
Perhaps features that do not exist should simply not exist, instead of advertising the fact they do not exist.
Then again, maybe M$ should add a new button to Windows 8.1: "Do my job for me, predict tomorrow's winning lottery numbers, feed all the starving children in Africa and shove Lena Dunham into a well." -> "That feature hasn't been implemented yet, sorry."
Filed under: They should go through and add "That bug hasn't been fixed yet, sorry." to any outstanding UI issues.
-
I'm already nice,
Hahahahah.... cough coughWhat the...? It's reformatting what I type in ways I don't want it to.
-
Hahahahah.... cough cough
pulls out bottle of whiskey and revolver with one bullet in the chamber and slams them down on the table in front of HardwareGeek
Your move, cupcake.

ARG II'M ALL CONFUSED IT'S ALL DIFFERENTY!!!!!
This should be a new line.
This should be italics.
This should be bold.
Also, I might be somewhat drunk right now.
-
Morbs has some whiskey, if you want to get more drunk.
-
Fucking shit. I guess it grabbed my avatar from some other site? Can that be changed?
I needed a new avatar anyway.

Nice avatar.
Filed under: "That shame hasn't been implemented yet, sorry. Check back tomorrow morning."

The default seems to be to use whatever avatar it finds on Gravatar (whatever that is; I've never used it). However, you can upload a custom one. However (again), there are some restrictions. It has to be square; if not it will simply crop it to be square.
-
Gah, this AJAX updating is freaking me out. The post replies are coming fast and furious!
-
Maybe I can become one of the top posters on the new forum, since they don't seem to have copied the post count from the old one.

Drink a whole lot of Robotussin like I have. It makes everything slow and web 1.0-y.

Had to go thru a password reset since my older WTF password was only 6 characters. It works now!!
-
I feel for ya, man. Every time I get even just a little bit of a cold, it turns into bronchitis.
-
I am just testing the quote functionality.

Can I quote specific parts of a previous post?@HardwareGeek said:The default seems to be to use whatever avatar it finds on Gravatar (whatever that is; I've never used it). Hmm, I guess not. What about a different post? The default seems to be to use whatever avatar it finds on Gravatar (whatever that is; I've never used it). However, you can upload a custom one. However (again), there are some restrictions. It has to be square; if not it will simply crop it to be square.
Also not. What does code look like?
public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println("Discourse is TRWTF"); }
-
quote specific parts
What about a different post?
Works for me.

You can quote a whole post and edit out the parts you don't want, but, yeah, it's not as convenient as CS's quoting.
-
The little box telling me to be nice. I'm already nice, I don't need software to remind me.
That's just the default stuff out of the box, right? You may be nice, but I have it on good authority (whether you're willing to believe it or not) that I'm not nice people.
No signature guy
Yet.
The auto-preview is nice. What's the over-under on the first WTDTWF blakeyrant on markdown about markdown.
-
-
The first and last time anyone will ever say that.
What? I was going to berate you for quoting me out of context, but wtf? Discourse strips out any nested quotes. So much for another favorite space-waster.
Um, what... Oh, yeah. Out of context. I only said the quoting feature of CS was convenient — the one and possibly only feature CS did well.

Um, what... Oh, yeah. Out of context. I only said the quoting feature of CS was convenient — the one and possibly only feature CS did well. That was semi- (read: completely) intentional. What fun is context anyway?

What fun is context anyway?
Well, it does remind you why the victim of the moment is being flamed. When multiple arguments descend into ad hominem in the same thread, it's hard to remember which argument is about politics, ad blocking, or Windows vs. Linux.

Things I hate:
Where? I just see his cat-face cupcakes.
...
It let Ben L. use a screen shot from what looks like Dwarf Fortress on his profile page.
-
I think a lot of settings can be controlled on admin settings... but I really would like to see the old signature guy back. That was so exciting.
-
Sorry Microsoft has been a bit busy working on an update to the Share your pain program. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CDAQtwIwAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D1Q_EPUXlyME&ei=vLx6U_n_GpXLsQT2moHgAg&usg=AFQjCNFwMMrlQ1Ji_gpjNniq88SGAbbvYQ&sig2=D0rkTVZIsuFzPRgDD3hrKQ&bvm=bv.67229260,d.cWc

I just see his cat-face
Yeah, I didn't want morbs to feel bad for hitting me, so I changed it. It used to be this image:
Sorry, new users cannot upload images.
FUCK HOW DO I DO THIS WHY CAN'T I TYPE AYCH TEE TEE PEE COLON SLASH SLASH I DOT IMGUR DOT COM SLASH hcbq1ar DOT PNG

Wow! Two boxes telling me what I'm typing as I write my post! Two of ANYTHING is better than one!
-
Underscore? Underscore!? Underscore!?!!
Oh. OK then.
Filed under: [It took too long to figure out my username.] (#)

This forum is fucking awful for mobile devices, fucking unusable as I can't see what I'm posting. I had to write this in a notepad and paste it and even that was so hard that I had to request the desktop site. Another thing that CS does better
-
Well, we're getting close to the 51 post mark where CS would normally say "I am going to ignore the previous 50 posts and put your post on a separate page with no context"
But Discourse doesn't do that. So instead, here's a YouTube video:
-
I'm replying on my mobile, seems OK...
-
Are you still planning to import our stats? If not, I may just choose a better username. (This one is because I stupidly signed up with joe.edwards@initech.com; I don't even work at Initech now.)
Filed under: [I started writing this on my phone and now the edit window shows up on my XBox, what witchery is this?] (#)

Are the previous threads going to be imported or is the old forum going to be removed forever?
-
I'm using a nexus 4 with latest android and using chrome. And no, it doesn't work unless I ask for the desktop site because I can't see what I'm typing because the keyboard and superzoomed blank textbox occupies all the goddam screen. It is wonderful that it works for you but it doesn't for me... A lot of websites don't because fuck mobile users and programming is hard. At least we won't miss the ironny of using a crappy software to complain about crappy software. :(
