But Palin isn't a deceitful whackjob either, so...

Which is why when Fish and Game (most respected gov group in the state) said that a Federal report about extinction danger to polar bears was using bad data and things were actually much worse she held a press confrence to say "Hey our guys disagree with the Fed report, so everything is fine".

Um...what? I haven't seen anything credible saying that polar bears aren't doing OK, but I guess can totally see how this would worry you more than equating a reduced tax burden with the return of slavery. It's good that at least some people make an effort to live up to their user names.

Politics as usual. When I was a kid, the Feds were always saying nasty things about the Rouge River ( http://www.environmentalcouncil.org/priorities/article.php?x=264 ) in Michigan. The EPA would put out a press release, but the only thing on the news would be a political appointee from the DNR or the county shouting that the numbers were wrong, but magically cutting back to the studio before having to explain anything.

Reading through the comments from today's front page article, Snoofle's having to defend himself for using the phrase "right or wrong" as if it implies tacit approval of sexist behavior.

If I may "re-rail" the thread, there's an important lesson to be learned from the article comments (most of which I freely admit to not having read): Some people are not worth arguing with except for entertainment value. People who can't distinguish between approval and not condemning (or expressions like "right or wrong") are sure to fall into that category.

Let's face it, Obama was the best of the choices available in 2008.

There is no possible universe where this was true.

    @Snooder said:

And do you really want Sarah Palin a heart attack away from the presidency?

Only, like, infinity times more than having Joe Biden.

At least Biden wouldn't quit halfway through the term just to make money acting in a reality show.

Stop mistaking "I disagree with his politics" with "she's a wildly incompetent caricature who has no place in real decision-making."

Except for "she" you perfectly described Biden. Is there anyone who knows anything about him who doesn't get that?

Speaking as an outsider, may I just say that the rest of the world couldn't give a shit about Biden one way or the other. He'll be a footnote in history.

However, Palin scares the living fuck out of anyone and everyone. The idea that someone so appallingly stupid could be in charge of the most powerful nation on the planet is just dreadful. Just dreadful.

Wow. I've mostly ignored her until now. I decided to Google for some of her quotes and. I'm speechless.

Yes, unless they get the nod, most VPs are never more than that. He's more of a joke than most, and I'm including Quayle here.

No. But then, Europeans are scared of a lot of stupid shit, and not at all about stuff they should be.

And yet, here we are with a ginormous moron elected to two terms. What evidence do you have that the current occupant of the White House is nearly as smart as her? She certainly understood his signature legislation better than he did.

Except Biden isn't incompetent. He's been a Senator since 1973. Was elected as the sixth-youngest Senator in history. Chaired several Senate committees, including the Senate Judiciary Committee. Drafted and rammed through multiple pieces of rather important pieces of legislation. Including VAWA. Whether you don't like his stances, or think he's a liberal douche or not, he's paid enough dues that you can expect him to perform the job competently.

Sarah Palin on the other hand, went from being mayor of a town of $8,000 to a governor of a rather unimportant state and then quit in the middle of her first term. She had neither native talent, innate brilliance, or years of experience to recommend her. That's the very definition of incompetence.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Look, there are several truthful criticisms you can make about Obama and his policies. But that he's not smart? Or that Sarah Palin is smarter? Are you fucking kidding me?

Yes, the 2-bit tv reporter / "hockey mom" with a communications B.A. from the University of Idaho is smarter than the Consitutional Law professor with a degree from Columbia and Harvard Law. Cmon.

You've obviously never paid attention to the man. His hair plugs are smarter than he is.

Definitely not years of experience. I wouldn't describe her as brilliant, either, but not as stupid. But why would I listen to someone who doesn't know what incompetence is?

Ah. Maybe he did well at those schools, but there's no real evidence, since he never released his transcripts. But Technically, he wasn't a professor, and if he ever knew much about the Constitution, he's apparently since forgotten about it. I'd take a random name from the phone book and give even odds at that person being smarter than Obama. He's the guy that other smart people knew they could use because he was a light skinned black man who was clean and articulate with no negro dialect unless he wants to. He's been the Affirmative Action Boy his whole life. Supposedly, his strong suit is that he's a great orator, but none of his speeches seem to make a dent.

Here's the thing. Unless you've got connections somewhere (he didn't) you have to be smart just to get IN those places. And to pull both Columbia, and later Harvard, then get on law review, and graduate magna cum laude, you gotta be smart. Not necessarily Einstein, but that shit doesn't "just happen" and no amount of "Affirmative Action" will get a moron there.

You really overestimate the rigor of the Ivy Leagues. Yes, they keep people like you out, but that doesn't mean they keep all idiots out.

I guess that depends heavily on your definition of "competence", I suppose. Does he intend to be as dumb as he is? Then he's astoundingly competent.
