What's your favorite thing about SSDS? (mine is SSDS!) SSDS, SSDS, oh, oh hey, everyone, everyone, hey, HEY, hey... SSDS. SSDS, golf video, aliens, dino-skins, medicine stones, flaten 'em stones, slow-mo video, the merge function... THE MERGE FUNCTION. Oh, no, swamp cops... stay cool, it's the swamp cops. BAM, guilty! Of not using SSDS!

Dad, I'm using SSDS. I'm proud of you, son. Dad, are you SSDS? Yes, now we are a family again.

Hey, guys, hey, hey, HEY guys, I'm the best. I'm the best at sharing knowledge.

NO. Swamp court. Appealing for Mashup Challenge. Doug presiding. Bam, guilty, love SSDS. WTF if Spectate wins?

OMG, I'm going to meet the swampies. What do I say? Uuuh, hi swampies? Ooooh

    SSDS. SSDS...

Wait, what is that? SSDS? SSDS?! SSDSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

Oooh, so much knowledge, got to see it all... oooh, oooh!

    I'm using SSDS.

(Yes, mate, I know... *sigh* we're both using it)

    SSDSSSSS!

There's an alien, another alien, alien, alien, alien... alien... getting bored of SSDS. Bam bam bam BAM BAM! Take that, SSDS. Wanna use Google, wanna use Google, wanna use Google.

Spectate, you didn't answer my question. :(

How do you think SSDS slo-mo compares to "fast-frame" slow motion videos like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNI-LIVs-to ?

Sure would be handy when I am hunting aliens. So much better than Mpeg format. A little more expensive than mpeg video I bet

Sorry for the late response. I've been cataloging my Drag racing video. More races this sunday. With current changes I can start the video at full speed a couple seconds before the lights change. Then into super slow motion right at the change and watch to see who gets the lights best then back to full speed after a couple seconds into the race. The people seem to really like the videos. Free of course. Nobody does drag race video faster. Just another example of Swamp video leading the pack

It is expensive for sure, you got that right. I'd think it's well worth the money if you're hunting for aliens, though. Did you find any aliens in the videos I provided? I didn't see any, but my eyes are no match to yours.

I saw drag racing done live on my TV once. Can't get much faster than 7-second delay live broadcast. In fact, they used the same 5000 frame-per-sec video to serve as a "photo finish." So, unfortunately, I don't think Swamp Video leads the pack on drag race videos.

Video from Sunday's drag races. One day and a quarter to upload 105 videos. When you can do video and not have to edit, you just shoot more. By not bit fiddling one captures more action.

I don't know how you do it RHucksterSwamp

I offload the videos and rename them 1 through 105

Then I start uploading then beginning with 105 then 104 etc. So that when I create a playlist they are in order and I can use the select all at the top of the screen and the first HUNDRED are added to the playlist. Then I go to page 2 and check off the last 5 ie 101 through 105 and add them to the playlist. That's it. The rest of the time is due to the time required to upload the files.

Please explain you method RHSwamp if it is better I will use it.

Yup the CP (Copy Picture) option allows for renaming. I'll have to upgrade it maybe? It's been a while since I tested that stuff out. The renaming is only 5% of the time. As you can see from the times on the videos in the playlist it takes a while for each file...

    I read his post as

Yes, using the CP (Child Porm) option, SSRR can batch-rename stuff. However, it's been a while since I ran it through my ingenious test suite with full decision/condition coverage, and now it only appears to work 5% of the time. If you look at the dates (file date?? upload date/time???) in the video playlist, you'll notice that they are far apart. That's because I had to batch-rename each file (or small groups of files?) individually. Would it be worthwhile to fix that bug? Would anyone care?

I'm not perfectly sure about a few things (e.g., I'm not 100% certain whether the question wasn't just a rhetorical one), but I think that's pretty much what he was trying to bring across.

    Good Question

I rename the videos so that the local drag race fans can relate. One thru 105 is easier than 201110123552.mpg etc. And a description on the front ie DragRace02Oct_0105 is better for search engines and viewers that are scanning my video library as well. Otherwise I don't need to rename. My cataloging works with any name.

The GF "Get Files option" doesn't always find the videos in name order. Something screwie with the directory info. Windows must sort that info for display. So I will make a small change to CP Copy Picture function to use a sorted version of the GF extract as it's control file for renaming videos. It will be a lot quicker than renaming 105 files manually.

  • Windows 7 won't do sound - what good is it

    Yup

Video from my OLD camcorder will play with sound on Windows 7 Swamp search, but when I play video from my new camcorder there is NO SOUND on Windows 7. I could build with my VB software A Search executable on a Windows 7 machine and things will clear up!! Or I could shoot all my stuff with my old camcorder. Or I could change the format from Mpeg4 to Mpeg1. So far the easiest solution is to use Windows XP and forget a system that takes away from the end user and ME. My XP start-up disks are precious. Guard them. They are worth it.

Very quiet christmas. But got probably the best present of all. A young friend got a Digital Camera that does video. Unlike the Know-it-alls, the Perfect Perfects and Lord-it-over-yous the young are willing to try it. I'll have someone to hunt aliens and shoot tons of video with. Arguing with older folks just gets their heels dug in. But it has kept me looking at the program and improving it.

One change to my blogging is that now I cut and paste every post into my notes file along with the link to the thread. It seems that the powers that be in the OLD media don't like my views either. Maybe someone here will create a new thread called "Unwanted posts and their links" I could supply a few current events where my thoughts were removed. Boo to them and their bosses.

Even the Windows command prompt is sufficient for many purpose of batch renaming. The FOR command, DIR command, and REN command can be used together. For numbering there is SET /A command. The UNIX shell can do a lot more sophisticated things than Windows, even with batch renaming, too.

(So, in other words, like I have said before, UNIX is perfectly fine without SSDS; so it doesn't really matter than SSDS is Windows-only because Linux and even Mac OS X is UNIX system.)

    Exactly;

The Option defaults on start-up will now assume that the program is running from a USB stick; not the NO-UPDATE DVD's of old. USB sticks make backups far simpler and portable. I will do all my SSDS starts from a USB stick.   DVD's aren't as convenient. Minor changes I'll make asap

    Ahem... bump.

Sorry, I can't get enough of this thread. Coincidently, I'm also zeroing out a 500 gig drive at work.

P.S. - what the heck is wrong with the tags? They scramble when I type them in. :/

  • Procrastinate and be lazy - It works....

I have been putting off changes for a while. Old and no-good-lazy maybe. Anyway I'm pumped about my next enhancement. As you all know the videos play is based on 2 text lines. The first giving the instructions for playback and the 2nd containing the video file location. Once I did the "Again" option to play back the video segment that is currently running. I was going to do a rewind option. NOW I have a far better answer....

Use multiple sets of lines to do a rewind or play the 9 Segments of the tobacco leaf flyer ALIEN without closing the file. It just needs a "pause" command on the first set of lines. The 2nd and subsequent set of lines will have a "continue" statement which will be used to skip the open statement for the video as it is left open with the previous "pause" command. This requires very few program changes and is far simpler than what I had in mind earlier. Geez I'm glad I'm lazy.

A recent weird video problem has cropped up. My laptop fails on opening some videos. But other PC's do just fine. Sometimes serendipity kicks in and fixes are made that weren't even a know problem. I'm close close to getting that fixed as well. Be ready to get excited. The alien video will replay each of the "important" segments a number of times in slo-mo and the golf swing will have a rewind put in. All without closing and re-opening the file. No flicker between anymore. How Smooooth that will be.

  • @SpectateSwamp said:

You mean it will finally be almost as smooth as just about every single other media player in existence? Hell even that quick video thing I threw together ages ago to prove a point didn't repeatedly open and close the same file.

You need to add a noodle and jam it. Then the perfect perfects won't lord it over you. They'll be jealous. Of your random smoothness golfswing option.

  • Not the Greatest Programmer - But definitely the Greatest Program

Just ignore SpenkSwamp and his cohort SpenkSwampDaddy. They are just Baskers; here to bask in the glory that is SSDS. What GREAT video demos have they come up with?

The latest version of SSDS is 4.80  Now when you hit enter the current video will replay on completion.

The next version will include the "pause" and "continue" option where the video will remain open, for a different play segment. This will allow me to do fast forward besides rewind. It isn't a big change but I'm lazy so it could be a few days for that. Once that change is in I'll be able to show off my Faster Than Sight objects in their full glory.

Question: Do you think the display of a picture / screen capture; of the screen with an arrow pointing to where the FTS object enters between and before the video segments, will work.

Ie display the pic. Then the video segment #1. (with pause) then the next pic showing where the 2nd FTS path. Then "continue" at the 2nd segment and on and on for all 9 segments with multiple replays for each video. How cool, how sharing that will be. This will surely put SpenkSwamp and his Daddy to shame.

I remember doing a couple of videos showing how WDS works as well as a couple showing how confusing SSRS was when trying to perform a simple search. I also did a video showing the quick video thing I threw together that allowed it to play videos and do a recap, you tend to ignore things that disagree with you though.

He seems to use this to mean aliens that travel so fast that they can't be seen, apart from the fact they normally can be seen. If we are being honest they are normally things like planes or leaves.

http://www.archive.org/details/demo85-pict7   This video has the "Tobacco Leaf Flyer" download this original and look closely there are 9 or 10 flight paths in it. You need to slow down the video to see it well.

When I get the next video fix in I'll do a screen reshoot of the important parts of the above video. In it I'll replay the important parts 3 or 4 times in a row.

http://www.archive.org/details/demo76-pict13 This video is the cloaked mothership and a flurry of FTS objects. One of which comes right up to the Cloaked biggie. Some have suggested they were using a Wal-mart cheepo cloaking device, to be caught on video like this.

For those of you who are new to this game and don't feel like looking at 7 years worth of archives, SpectateSwamp hunts aliens down. It started out with us being justifiably incredulous, but then he showed us his videos. What was shown was an incredible sight: leaves, birds, and video compression artifacts which SpectateSwamp is convinced are aliens (as shown in this latest reply). What followed was intense debate on whether SpectateSwamp is a troll or just an idiot and after some deliberations the consensus leans towards idiot. When I was 4 years old I was convinced floaters in my eyes were ghosts, but grew out of that pretty soon after. SpectateSwamp apparently hasn't grown out of that phase and has extended his delusions to this. We've used analogies, visual aids, and others to get him to understand the basic principles of leaves in the wind, 3D perspective, and video compression especially by Flash-based video players on YouTube and archive.org. Nothing has ever convinced him otherwise. Oh, and finally, SpectateSwamp thinks this is all thanks to SSDS even though he shot this through a unrelated camcorder, exported the video via another non-SSDS application, uploaded it to archive.org without any help by SSDS, and viewing it on archive.org without SSDS.

Yup I do love the "again" option

In testing it out I found a number of JetBoat race videos I had kicking about and am currently uploading them to YouTube. Over 1800 videos there so far.

When checking my videos out. I did a "GF" catalog of all mpg videos on C:  Then I did a mass edit of that file changing "photo " to "photo again " (that enabled the again for each) Then I turned on random video selection with "rand" then I turned on a random start point with "randa" then I turned on just playing a thumbnail portion with "thumb" then I set the time to play by entering "tt5" for 5 second clips. Then "ww" for screen saver mode. Then "photo" as the search string (because that is on every line) and away it went with these random 5 second clips playing TWICE again and again.... When you have thousands and thousands of videos you need to sample them once in a while. What a program and it just gets better and better...
