Shocked. Shocked and horrified. The confession of a Linux SSDS user.
It all blew up in my face. It was supposed to be a bad joke. I would download the binary and then post that it didn't work.
But I was wrong. I was so wrong. What follows is what actually happened (edited slightly for readability).
scottl@plan-b ~/bin $ wget http://www.telusplanet.net/public/stonedan/search.exe
2012-11-10 13:14:37 (376 KB/s) - `search.exe' saved [554496/554496]
scottl@plan-b ~/bin $ chmod +x ./search.exe
scottl@plan-b ~/bin $ ./search.exe
err:module:import_dll Library MSVBVM50.DLL (which is needed by L"Z:\\home\\scottl\\bin\\search.exe") not found
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"Z:\\home\\scottl\\bin\\search.exe" failed, status c0000135
At this point I should explain that I've got the latest version of Wine installed on this Linux box. To carry the joke to its logical conclusion, I downloaded and installed the dll.
scottl@plan-b ~/bin $ mv ~/Downloads/msvbvm50.dll ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/
Then I ran it again.
scottl@plan-b ~/bin $ ./search.exe
This time it ran. SSDS freakin' runs under Wine. I can't believe it. When I have time I'm going to see how much of this works under Wine.
