@DogsB itym "Soon"

@DogsB This is a case where the book is probably worth more than the overdue fines!

Backyard Starship
The title of that reminds me a bit of:
Who wouldn't love a spaceship powered by beer?
Reminds me of:
Which I certainly enjoyed as a kid. (Though that one is about a government with almost enough technology racing to get a spaceship to join The Space Empire, rather than "I made it myself".)

@Lathun will agree with this great selection.
And Part V is especially important. Title: "Venom".
With chapters like
Main Components of Spider Venoms
The Neurotoxic Mode of Action of Venoms from the Spider Family Theraphosidae
The Cytotoxic Mode of Action of the Venom of Cupiennius salei (Ctenidae)
The Evolution of a Toxic Enzyme in Sicariid Spiders
Predation by Spitting Spiders: Elaborate Venom Gland, Intricate Delivery System
and eventually
Spider Venoms Potentially Lethal to Humans
@Zerosquare You read it! You deserve that!
It's particularly interesting how the protein-based poisons tend to be lower-energy molecules / of high stability, e.g. the common presence of the triple-cytokine spiral. My intuition would lead me to expect poisons to be higher-energy molecules than the weight average, given the evident reactivity. Apparently the structural factors take over in this size regime.

an audio book so you know how character names are pronounced
This can backfire, badly. I was listening to a series, and they switched the reader/voice after book five. And suddenly character names were pronounced differently.
-
@robo2 Ah, that's a solved problem. Now that AI will narrate audiobooks, names will be pronounced differently all the time

You never heard of a Susquehanna Neckwarmer?

@DogsB I remember that one... it's on my bookshelf.

Are you sure it's science-fiction? Sounds like a documentary to me.

The bit about paper clip audits always gets a chuckle.

Yes. The definition of FPGA in the Glossary is deliberately wrong.

Not sure that's gonna help.

@DogsB I'm told I should enjoy this.

@dkf Sounds interesting... Bummer that it's not in Kindle Unlimited...

Maybe other works by Charles Stross are? (Note that Singularity Sky is quite a bit better than Iron Sunrise.)

Nope. I've noticed that with ebooks they're usually either:
- Available via the library
- Available via Unlimited
- Nope, you have to pay!
Also, options 1 and 2 are mutually exclusive. Oh well, my queue in KU is quite long as it is...

@dcon I get all my books in physical form. Books are friends to be treasured.

So, you buy your friends?

I struggled with that when I first thought about a Kindle. But now, I love being able to bring 10 books (or more) on vacation without needing an extra bag!

I wish books these days were sold like some vinyls are, where when you buy the physical copy you get a download code for the ebook.

and then smack them close when I'm done with them for now

"Required reading for everyone" - why did I read that as "Retired reading for everyone" while translating "Retarded reading for everyone"?
What's happening with my poor brain?

Wetware generally works in the opposite way from hardware: it gets faulty if you put the magic smoke in.
