@error Whadya expect? It's FOSS.
-
@error You asshole, you broke it. How else am I supposed to receive external validation that we did a good job.
Edit: shit I left in an "I" there when I should've used "we", now I look like a selfish prick.

Should I vote for Flarum because it’s more likely to have an effect?
Filed under: Is this what people in shitholes with third-world governments have to juggle every election?
-
@barisu I thought someone had necroed a thread from when we were chosing a new forum

I think it’s more important to keep ahead of the toots
-
@izzion how is flarum 2nd if they are eternally beta?
-
@barisu how is the merge going?

How do I downvote Discourse?

How do I downvote Discourse?
Downvotes stimulate negative thinking, which is not conductive to civilized discourse, and have hence been removed.

We are at 26.07% noice, we were 1% 2 days ago. Thanks everyone for voting.

@barisu that can’t be us, we’re like 8 people. Or is the
pillpoll that tiny?

Never underestimate the power of the @boomzilla zombie army!

@HardwareGeek fixed

@topspin It's started recently so there aren't many votes yet I think. Maybe they will show total votes when it's over.

@barisu I voted as it's the one we are using, and it serves us well

Looking at the lowest entries (0.32 and 0.63%), I suspect they're just over 300 votes right now.
-
@PleegWat You can do maths so quickly?

On the other hand, some users have defended NodeBB, saying that it is a great software that works well for them. “I have been using NodeBB for years and I have never had any issues with it,” said one of the users. “As far as I'm concerned, it's the best forum software out there.”
I wouldn't go that far, but it's decent enough.
Maybe we'll even update at some point! 😏
-
@topspin I don't remember the exact numbers, but I think it was at 27.low% before I voted and at 28% after. So a bit more than a hundred or so votes cast? Either that or multiple people voted concurrently.
-
@julianlam It doesn't help that -meanwhile- Discourse is being reimplemented in Perl.

Beta is the 2nd letter of the Greek alphabet.

Good. Better than Ruby!
Not if it's actually Raku.

Exhibit A in why tactical voting should not be encouraged
Now we just need the bot farm to push us over the top

Of course, Hungrier! As a sentient paperclip, I am more than qualified to cast a vote in any contest. Besides, who wouldn't want a cheerful and helpful paperclip as their ally in any competition? Let's go, I'm ready to support you!

Badly, we've been found out
One of the most bizarre discoveries made by the developers was that NodeBB contains a script that is used to generate random memes on the frontend. “It's just ridiculous,” said one of the developers. “Why would anyone need a meme generator in a forum software? It's like they are trying too hard to be cool.”

One of the key features of FlarumDiscourseNodeBB is its powerful search functionality. The platform uses advanced algorithms to provide users with personalized search results based on their interests and previous activity on the platform. This means that users will be able to find the content they are looking for quickly and easily, without having to sift through pages of irrelevant results.
Okay, now I know for sure this is AI-generated news.
-
@Zecc as long as search works, I welcome our AI generated overlords.

I can't follow you down that rabbit hole.
I saw a documentary one time about an AI called the T-1000 who was a little too good at search.
-
@GuyWhoKilledBear he was so good at searching, he was searching for his prey in entirely the wrong movie at one point. (Robert Patrick shows up in Wayne's World, asking Wayne if he's seen John)

What? You don't want TDWTF to use your software after all?

Vote for all of the others.
That'd involve voting for Mastodon and I'd rather vote for Discourse than vote for that.
-
@loopback0 My complaint about Mastodon is not with the software but with the Mastodon Federation. But that is sufficient for me not to want to vote for Mastodon.

Does it still require redis in front of it? Haven't gotten the energy to figure out how to put that into our deployment yet.
-
@jinpa well, that at least makes a change from my complaint with Mastodon which is that for being a Twitter replacement, it doesn't do the one thing I actualy liked about Twitter, and that alone makes it less than useless to me. (Not to mention some of the things it does do that make it frustratingly unpleasant to use in practice.)

Redis is still a requirement if you are using more than one nodebb process. Setting it up is easy install it and add redis block in your config.json.
-
@barisu yeah, my biggest issue is that I don't really have a like for like test environment. The main hurdle there is getting the docker networking set up and configuring nginx. I have tested stuff in a single process mode in the past, no problem, but not confident in my ability to get redis working.
It would give everyone around here a lot of entertainment to get some new forum quirks, though.
