There's also a bit of Poe's Law in there, particularly as audience size grows ever larger over time...

@Carnage I dare you to try convincing her to get it tattooed across her chest.

She doesn't like tattoos so that's a dead on inception.

So your idea is that every time she wants @Carnage to shut up, she'd flash her tits, erm, tattoo at him to show him the message?
That sounds a great idea, and I don't think that any tattoo is really needed to achieve the intended effect.
Sadly, I also think that it's not going to happen regardless of his wife's opinion of tattoos.

The entire premise of TFA is wrong. Whatever else Musk is or isn't, the guy is hilarious.

Wasn't that already the idea with the t-shirt? (I guess a bra or panties would work even better, but YMMV.)

Depends on the specific context. But not everyone appreciates a good shitpost like I do.
-
@boomzilla From that POV, I agree. It's hard to top the guy who bought twitter to promote his shitposting in, well, shitposting.
-
@cvi as a business person, he can be very...disruptive. He's definitely shaken up the space industry in a lot of very good ways. He's moved electric cars along, too, though IMO there's not much good about that.
His digging stuff has pretty much done nothing and hyperscam was dead on arrival and only slightly less silly than Solar Freakin' Roadways.
I have doubts that he'll make money on Twitter but I think he's shook it up in some very necessary ways and turned over some rocks with pretty awful stuff under them.
He plays very fast and loose with securities regulators, which is fun but probably his dumbest move. I dunno, his sense of humor and reactions like the Rolling Stone headline writer's remind me of the Bud Light VP who said that their marketing humor was out of touch, which makes total sense when your product has double the sales of the next highest selling brand. Out of touch with whom?
-
@codinghorror1 if 0,0001% of people don't like you that's all you gonna see on twitter. the fans won't be tweeting all day how awesome Jeff is, but the haters do for some reason
I for one, don't miss phpbb and expertsexchange.
Would you use Ruby again if you were going to start discourse today?

-
@codinghorror1 well, I know I'll miss your participation here, that forum drama was way overblown, and a misunderstanding about what how @apapadimoulis runs things here.
If you come back, you'll see that outside the garage and threads that weren't specifically annoying to you the experience on this forum improved a lot. Things are being moved to the garage when they get out of hand, and people behave better here.
I also miss blakey and Lorne, I'm not taking sides here, I would just like everyone to chill out and focus on the fun side of things here.
And if someone close one of your topics as a duplicate to make fun on stack overflow I'll still laugh of that.

That is fantastic news for everyone, and exactly what I wanted to hear. Thank you. I didn't come here to point and laugh, I came here to explain my perspective, show I still cared, and then leave you with one message: be excellent to each other.

Ruby has done well for us but it has declined in overall popularity. Python kinda won that war.
And it's ironic that, sometimes, I'm the one talking too much and not leaving room for listening and processing:
-
@codinghorror1 it’s easy to do, to be the one doing all the talking. $deity knows I do enough.
It’s funny that as I’ve gotten older I find I need to listen more. One step at a time.

@Arantor said in It semms Jeff Atwood has deleted his twitter account:

Listening is good, though. Let the other people do the work.
-
@cvi well, Agile does remind us to maximise the work not done.

Curiously enough, I've had to work on talking more in the last few years. (I noticed that for sufficiently-large meetings, someone will say the thing I would have said.) A manager or two mentioned that I should provide more feedback in the meetings I'm in, so now I open my cake-hole more often.

@codinghorror1 said in It semms Jeff Atwood has deleted his twitter account:

Honestly, I think we would have been fine even if you did come to point and laugh (it's kind of what we do here). Most of the friction came because you held a position of power as an admin here on the forums, and what would have been viewed as merely shitty takes (held proudly by many here), were instead viewed as edicts. It felt like you seemed to know better than us how our community should be run, and we were going to have Civilized Discourse whether we liked it or not.
and then leave you with one message
I had more issues with the moderation style than your participation in discussions (we still use the terminology "Jeffing" for moving posts to different threads, for example). If you want to stick around and participate in the community - even if I disagree with your opinions - I think we'll all welcome you back, as a peer, rather than an admin.
What do you think of NodeBB, by the way? It has pages.

I think that's the biggest and most-oft-repeated takeaway here. Once the mods+ stop things get cagey.

I don't think anybody ever accused Musk of possessing true skill. But he did spend a cool 4 Gbucks on twitter, so that shows some amount of dedication.

Well, you had synanon going here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synanon -- a culture of debasement and criticism. Me telling you that culture isn't healthy isn't "whether you like it or not", it's more "will we survive as a community?"

It's. OK.. happy to take the useful bits and fold them into Discourse so the whole world can benefit. Pages, however, block reading / listening which is an enormous net negative: https://blog.codinghorror.com/because-reading-is-fundamental-2/
-

I'm not sure they do that, but I do still have Infiniscroll™ enabled here because while it's not perfect I do prefer it.
-

They don't block it, they temporarily pause it. For me a page break is a positive as it forces me to actually think about the information I just read for a short moment.
I understand that not everyone is like me, which is why I like NodeBB's approach of letting you choose. It is unfortunate that you don't seem to understand that not everyone is like you.

Infiniscroll is an abomination and I have it disabled. It also breaks the browser’s native navigation, which as far as I can tell is why Discourse comes with its own excuse for additional navigation instead of letting the browser handle it.
No thanks.

Don't tell us what we want when you continue to demonstrate that you don't understand us. As already said here, not everyone thinks like you. Your answers don't work for everyone, but your toxic habit of shoving your opinions down everyone's throat as though they were pronouncements from God kind of turn people off from time to time.
You act like you have some kind of expertise about "civilized discourse"and community but your posts and history tell a different story.

Much like periods and commas in verbal speech, it's important to be able to pause and ingest the language buffer.
It's one of the things that irk me watching YouTube videos where they edited out all their breaths and speed up their talking.
