@Gustav yes, Linux "won" the moment Microsoft realized how they could use it for free while still making their users pay for it, monthly.

@dkf Qt is only non-expensive if youβre open source. If youβre doing anything not open source, itβs actually rather expensive, well out of the price range that Iβd consider paying for, with what I have in mind.
I use wxWidgets for my stuff...
-
@dcon I tried wxWidgets once. And tried, and tried - couldn't get anything to work.

I have a program I run under MacOS and Windows. It mostly works under Ubuntu too.

@dcon to be fair, it was 2008.

Scarfolk website TRICKED ME.
It made me think I could get the Don't poster on a t-shirt, but I can't. Because I would totally wear that. Ditto the "No." design if it were a t-shirt.
I was going to consider a fridge magnet version but... well... the "No." fridge magnet made it very clear indeed.
Which means I am either forced to do without, or consider sourcing it from alternative and potentially unlicensed vendors, and of course I know the answer ahead of time as to whether to pursue that outcome.*

Someone has decided to send me a PowerPoint file that should explain everything. I love this shit. I spend the next meeting getting them to explain the vague shit they've put on it.
what is end to end solution? What input does it take to get what output? How does this help me deliver this?
20 seconds of silence
i shall have a comprehensive answer for the next meeting.

I can confirm that we do not have feelings.

reminds me of the ppt I was flipping through yesterday ... it was obvious where it changed from copy/paste from some ITIL/framework/hot air thing to their own interpretation because it switched from English to French for the last two slides. It also stopped making sense but that was a coincidence. I proposed to my manager to just rename one of our jira dashboards and then claim that we were already working in compliance with these guidelines.
-
Status: I don't want to be annoying, but I will be. Somebody didn't think our new jira status model through all the way.
I am not going to keep my issues in 'in progress' waiting for a periodic QA deploy.

there is no distinction between things you have to work on an those that ready for the next step? why have statuses at all then?

Status:the woman I inherited phone number from has birthday. Turns out she's one of those grannies with lots of friends and grandchildren. On the plus side, it's nice to get stupid misaddressed calls from REAL people for a change.

@Luhmann Apparently between about a dozen statuses, they didn't think about this one.

It's because the polishing smoothed out the sensory endpoints. Grit it up with sandpaper and you'll be right as rain!

@PleegWat We went thru that too. Now we go from InProgress to Done. Something magic happens where it progresses to QA. I don't care anymore.

Jesus, this thing spouts more Gibberish than @Gribnit .
@dcon going from inertia to crashing into icebergs would be a marked improvement.
Also, how do you hit an iceberg? Oceans are huge and icebergs quite small in comparison. Even I couldn't pull off a feat of such incompetence.
-
@error to be fair this is why one avoids the odd numbers in Node.
(And the even ones too, if possible, but definitely the odd ones.)

It's valid HTML. I even opened a feature request that the forum accept <time> elements but it was ignored.

in progress
So, in ServiceHow incident tickets can be "In Progress" or "On Hold" (I'm not allowed to change it to anything else until "resolved"). If it's "In Progress" the SLA timer is ticking.
Well, I'm not always able to resolve a ticket then and there, so naturally you put it On Hold while waiting for something.
Unfortunately, the only one I can put that makes any kind of sense is "On Hold - Waiting for caller". Every other sub-status type requires either a link to a ticket or change request or blah blah blah. Waiting for caller just requires a comment.
Naturally, people lose their shit about this because "Why are you waiting on me?!?!"

I don't care either. I just want to be able to move the issue from 'in progress' to some other status once I've merged.
I kicked it up the chain hoping it'll be resolved. It's in my boss's own interest that he can see whether I've got any in progress issues.

There's a sign outside the gig I'm at that says a portion of the barβs proceeds goes to helping needy youth... It's practically my sworn duty now.
