@topspin I’m wondering if this is Word trying to do smart quotes and put a proper typographic apostrophe in, and that’s the nearest thing Comic Sans has?
-
@topspin said in Things that remind you of WDTWTF members:
Don't have a Windows machine available to check if Comic Sans is to blame, but that looks like a grave accent (backtick) instead of an apostrophe.
Don't let that stop you.
COMICI.TTF COMICZ.TTF COMICBD.TTF COMIC.TTF
Edit: I have no idea what the license on this font is and if uploading it like this is illegal, but You Wouldn't Download Comic Sans.

@Arantor And drop the apostrophe in one of the "it's".

Word 2010, Comic Sans MS, 11pt, (Win10)
edit: I typed just using a single quote mark and let Word do whatever it does.

@dcon cannot unsee the bad kerning.

It's probably OK:
Core fonts for the Web was a project started by Microsoft in 1996 to create a standard pack of fonts for the World Wide Web. It included the proprietary fonts Andalé Mono, Arial, Arial Black, Comic Sans MS, Courier New, Georgia, Impact, Times New Roman, Trebuchet MS, Verdana and Webdings, all of them in TrueType font format packaged in executable files (".exe") for Microsoft Windows and in BinHexed Stuff-It archives (".sit.hqx") for Macintosh. These packages were published as freeware under a proprietary license imposing some restrictions on distribution.
Microsoft terminated the project in 2002, but because of the license terms, the distributed files are still legally available from some third-party websites.
-
@Zerosquare "some restrictions on distribution"
Presumably not including "only distribute the self extracting EXE versions"
-
@hungrier SSHHHHH!
We weren't going to read that stuff!

@boomzilla But as soon as someone tried to write it such that americans would pronounce half-way correctly, what would happen to the poor

@Tsaukpaetra No, I probably would not use Google for that search.

Well, that's the problem right there. You're not supposed to store the hate up; you're supposed to let it flow through you.

Besides the sugar that I can't eat any more, I'm not fond of the taste of raspberries. We had raspberries in our yard when I was a kid, and my mom made homemade jam from them. I didn't really care for it. Strawberry, blackberry, boysenberry, blueberry, ..., yes; raspberry, not so much.

Existing: Runts, rugrats, spawn, larvae, grubs, maggots (single words) - "little shits" (note cognate) is the tip of the iceberg for phrases.
Also, we have a thread for unclaimed slurs, see if there are any you like.

People with dental work or diverticulitis.

@Gribnit there's also "ankle biters"

I usually associate that with small (yappy) dogs.

Homemade raspberry jam sounds quite pleasant.

./ActLikePeopleExpect.exe -bash: /home/cvi/misc/ActLikePeopleExpect.exe: cannot execute binary file: Exec format error
Oh, well, worth a shot.

@cvi said in Things that remind you of WDTWTF members:

Oh, well, worth a shot.
It reduces to a couple dozen shell scripts.
Which should be in
~/bin/
.Which is where you should have looked.
-
@Gribnit .exe isn't the native executable format on *nix systems though, nor does it natively call out to something bash could run on its behalf.
-
@Arantor but, you can name a shell script whatever the hell you want.
-
@Gribnit you can, yes, but the opening of the file must be something it knows how to deal with. The typical exe header (is it still MZ?) isn't.

I once read, years ago, that it is possible to configure the linux kernel so windows executables are automatically started using wine.
-
@PleegWat Wine (or some other form of alcohol) seems like an appropriate way of dealing with Windows programs.

That would imply some sort of committent to want to run it regularly. Putting it into ~/misc, where random garbage goes, reflects my intentions much better.

Well if that's what you're going for,
~/misc
isn't as distanced or pejorative as/usr/opt
.
