Nooooooooooooooo!!!!
I need some context: how is this newsworthy? From what I've seen on TV, this is just "Monday" in Alabama.
Also:
“People actually they drink this stuff, and then you know you can get lead poisoning. I have people that have died from lead poison because of drinking moonshine,” Rodgers said. “It’s not a healthy drink because it’s not manufactured the right way.”
Lead poisoning? How the hell do you get lead in a moonshine? In such a significant amount that lead poisoning is is apparently more likely than methanol poisoning?

@Kamil-Podlesak I feel like you're asking a leading question...

I have yet to do my semi-naked katana run in Dark Souls 3. Probably the end of this decade at this rate. Elden Ring in maybe 2040?
-
@DogsB As long as it's not a semi-naked windmill run.

I would assume it has to do with the containers used, combined with the corrosive nature of the contents.

Oil drums coated with lead-based paint?
Another source might be leaded solder, if parts of the still are soldered together, and not welded.

Possibly lead pipes or lead somewhere else, like bushings. And the lead builds up over time, so enough consumption will give you lead poisoning. Although, living downwind from an airport will also give you lead poisoning so

Found it:
The use of automobile radiators containing lead-soldered parts in the illicit distillation of alcohol (i.e., "moonshine") is an important source of lead poisoning among persons in some rural Alabama counties. From March 5 through October 26, 1991, eight persons were diagnosed with elevated blood lead levels (BLLs) at a local hospital and were reported to the notifiable disease surveillance system maintained by the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH). None of these patients had known histories of occupational or other potential sources of lead exposure, but all reported recent histories of moonshine ingestion. This report summarizes the results of an investigation of these cases conducted by the ADPH during December 1991.
Emphasis mine.

And lead is known to affect the neurological system, damaging the brain and lowering intelligence. Which explains Alabama.

Damaging the brain or lowering the intelligence of Alabama does nothing.

'tis.
But in other news, I was actually considering doing something like this, but water cooling.
The biggest problem is working out thermal transfer materials that are sturdy yet form-fitting (for efficiency), and portable.
Regeneration alcoves are great, but sometimes you wanna sit, yeah?

Snrk I'm sure there's a thread for this, but...

@DogsB I suspect they meant sharks around Australia.

@DogsB said in In other news today...:
Shark bites in Australia are increasing
And of course no mention of any numbers.
Increasing by what, 1? How many shark bites per death-by-cow?Let's ask Google:
Country Total Fatal USA 47 1 Australia 12 3 ... Worldwide 73 9 And the cows? (emphasis in original)
It turns out that for humans, cows can be more dangerous than dogs, wolves, and even sharks. How many people are killed by cows each year? On average, cows kill 22 people a year in the United States.
9 fatalities world-wide, that's not even a single schoo... wait, never mind.

You rearly eat cows. Too old and stringy usually by the time their udders have dried up or the milk starts going odd. There is a market for that though… but some people are terribly strange.

Just make long cook stews and such and it's fine. But yeah, some old cows were definitely chewy. Usually the bastard ones that'd do their best to kick you. One final on the way out I guess.
-
@DogsB said in In other news today...:

Not that rarely actually. Your best meat is typically (I would say always, but there is probably some chic restaraunt somewhere doing things differently) going to be from bulls but on the cheaper end you will find plenty of cows. Also, you can't forget ground beef as well.

<mock outrage>Stop fucking gendering everything! I don’t care if you get killed by a male or a female cow!
-
-
-
@cvi Are you assuming the cow's gender?!?
-
@HardwareGeek Sir, I do not understand. I am not a native speaker, but if I recall correctly *opens up large-ass dictionary* ... ah, yes ... it says right here "Cow: the mature female of cattle (genus Bos)". Are you saying *pushes up glasses* that my dictionary is ... not correct? *mimes a shocked face*

To be fair this doesn’t affect me. I probably won’t buy anything with software in it.

@DogsB what the absolute fuck. That's "running out of cyan" levels of extortion.
Yet another reason for open source "I'll fix it myself".

@topspin There's also the high beam assistant. In this case, local regulations should just come down hard on BMW. This is a safety thing. If the car can do it automatically (and reliably!), it should just do so.

While subscriptions for these features are dumb, a future owner being able to easily unlock with a one-off payment a feature the original buyer didn't pay for isn't terrible.
-
@loopback0 Yes for pure software features, especially some fucking Apple/Google thing that's going to be discontinued or otherwise irrelevant in a couple years anyway. Nope if all the hardware is already there.
