We have named it Roach and look forward to crafting a Lego-minifig-sized Geralt of Rivia that can ride it around the house.

I’ve never had one before but I am fascinated by its motion and capacity to navigate.
Which one did you get? I've been considering getting one for a while.

I haven't really, but if I did, my house would get vacuumed a whole lot more often than it does now.

We picked up the Ecovacs Deebot N8+
Not particularly noisy, reasonably intelligent, does have an app to control it so that may influence your decision making.
Can also be given water to wash tiles with. Not yet tested this.
We’ve only let it run round the place so far but it has mapped out everything including obstructions (we’re still unpacking) and went on its merry way back to its docking station once done. Werks gud so far!

Status: Got a new disk, installed Debian in UEFI mode. That wasn't easy. Turns out your installer must be also boted in UEFI mode, becasue otherwise installation will succeed, but after reboot you will be greeted by an empty grub prompt.
Also, for some reason it installed mdadm, which was searching for non-existing RAIDs and somehow prevented cryptsetup from starting and decrypting the rootfs.
Luckily chrooting into the new drive and running update-initramfs -u && update-grub fixed that.Otherwise works fine, now I have more disk space for 31 containers, and production database dumps.
Finally unplugged the 10y old mechanical HDD on which i stored less important data, which was spinning constantly for those 10y and somehow didnt crash. Does Seagate have some awards for such achievements, like car manufacturers do?

@Arantor Do you have any dogs, or other animals that could leave a mess on the floor? I've heard that's dangerous with robot vacuums

I have one of these as well. Works fairly well as a robot vacuum. The docking station is useless for pet hair, however, so I do have to periodically manually empty its bin. The mopping plate is basically just a wet Swiffer pad it drags behind it for picking up fine dirt that it missed with its sucker, but is bunk for mopping up anything serious. Also it seems to, once every month or so, "forget" how to connect to my WiFi network and I have to reconnect it via the app.
Still a great improvement over my old "dumb" Roomba that "navigated" solely by bumping into things and then turning a random amount.

It's Sadie, and she does fine except for when I'm coming home (or, well, I guess anyone is recently entering from the front door).

@hungrier we have no pets. We are however both long haired so this might get interesting down the line.

I'm lucky, I never had a HDD failure resulting in any data loss. Maybe that's because I don't generally run Windows since late XP era. The one time I ran Win 8.1 in a virtual machine it killed the SSD, probably by thrashing updates.

When entering a building, it is not unusual to see one door from a set of double doors saying PUSH and the other saying PULL.
It is also not unexpected to see the same when exiting a building; in particular, if that's what you saw when entering.
You do expect the door which said PUSH on the way in to say PULL on the way out and the door which said PULL on the way in to say PUSH on the way out, rather than one door saying PUSH on both sides and the other saying PULL on both sides.

@Arantor I had an Ecovacs until one day its LIDAR system decided to go out of alignment. Turns out that it's a common issue with that model and not really repairable.
Thus I now have a Roborock S6 MaxV.

Failure can happen with any drive. Have a physically-separate backup.

Wait ... I came across such doors quite often.
All of them were glass doors. And I am a quick reader from any angle: I read the text faster than that I detect the fact that it's written on the other side and I read it from behind...

: no!
: How much coffee have you drunk?
: none!

I'm going to a gig later but Ticketmaster just withdrew online tickets and now I have to pick up a paper ticket at the box office. I prefer paper tickets. They're a good souvenir. What's strange is that it's a no-phone show. You have to put it in a locked bag for the show. This was pulled out of now where at the last moment. I'm tempted to try getting a refund for shits and giggles.
I know looking into an audience and seeing a sea of phones looking back at you is annoying but what of us that are there for a friend and you're so shit I would rather finish my book.

@DogsB no phone shows actually sound like an amazing idea. I myself am guilty of being an annoying dick who takes pictures / video clips (I’ll never look at again), when I really shouldn’t.

Tool did the same thing except the ushers went around asking people to put them away. This solution was a bit better. It was odd seeing people sitting/standing around staring into space waiting for friends or the next band to play. Reminded me of the early 00s. I almost had my kindle confiscated. If it had an internet connection and a camera they would have.
I'm not averse to these types of shows. I just want prior warning. I have to admit it was a better experience though.

It was allowed during the last song in their planned encoreWhen I went to Tool, Ticketmaster send out an email about it two days beforehand. No mention when buying the tickets. They did allow it for one of the last songs. Did Tool also have a break near the end in Antwerp so that people could go to the loo and buy merch? I thought it was a nice nod to their ageing fanbase.
Last night Ticketmaster pulled the same shit again but you couldn't gain access to the venue unless you put your phone in a canvas bag with a magnetic, ?, fastener. If you relied on your phone to buy alcohol or merch you were shit out of luck. They even pulled digital tickets so I had to queue at the box office first.

The 10min counter thing? That's what I was referring to as a planned encore. No fuss if the band will or will not come back ... everything timed out.
Maynard was also making fun of the audience because the normal standing part was still, covid style, turned into a seating area ... he asked why everybody was sitting while he was probably "fucking older"

At the London show he didn't complain about that but he did complain about the diarrhoea he had in Ireland so London show may not be as good as the Irish one.
