Saw a pulsing eldritch horror. I wrote, "your soulmate waits ahead" in front of it.
I was summoned to be a boss in another player's world. He bowed to me. I used that opportunity to stab him in the back for ~90% of his HP.

Woo, downvotes!

FFS don't offer to help with boss fights if you can't fight the boss.
5 attempts at Maneater now with blue phantoms that died in the first half of the fight.
Edit: I suspect it's harder than usual due to the pure black world tendency.
-
OMMFG he knocked me off the edge as he died. I got the trophy for killing him as the You Died message displayed.
Edit: phew, his archstone got activated, and my bloodstain had all his souls

WHO KILLED PATCHES
Edit: fucking Yurt

I've never been this furious at a fictional character.

*reading wiki* LOL that's why I never play Souls games blind.
-
@Gąska That's part why I don't play Souls games.

No, people have fun playing cricket.

"Fun" in the Dwarf Fortress sense?
-
@HardwareGeek Yes, but worse.
-
- climb a tall staircase
- suddenly hear loud machinery turning
- :akbar:
- panic and run
- fall down to my death
- no sign of trap
Edit: it was a gate opening

Holy the boss drained a level from me

So the boss is a troll?
Dragging you down to it’s level and beating you with experience
-
I guess I missed Ostrava of Boletaria in 1-1, he died, and now I can't get the telescope, the mausoleum key, or fight Old King Doran to get the Demonbrandt and the eternal warrior's ring (required for a trophy).
Because I didn't find and save some rando NPC in the first level.
-
@error that's why I never play Souls games blind.

Motherfucking black phantom invader made me lose a bloodstain with 90k souls.
Oh and this boss has level drained me 5 times. All for strength points. So I guess it's a free respec!

Huh. That sound surprisingly useful.

There was a patch tonight. I bet it was for the gold coin glitch.
IMHO they should just ban users (from multiplayer) with soul levels that could only have been reached by exploit.
-
@error doesn't summon range take care of that?
-
@Gąska said in Just Souls Things:

TBH I haven't looked at that for this game, but I mean banned as in no messages, no summons, no invasions. Can't log in at all.
-
@Gąska Also, I'm pretty sure you can ignore the limit with a password. This would close the gap where you summon someone who's used the exploit and drain a zillion souls from them.

If fans of the original are anything to go by any level can be hit. Some of them have being playing the same character for over a decade.
In dark souls three they're very ban happy. I was invaded by a hacker a few weeks back and my character got banned somehow. I'll have to delete the save and start again.
I miss my Blue Sentinel summoning.
-
I defeated Old King Allant. I have pure white character tendency. I still need to do all the world tendency events. I'm just fucked about the Demonbrandt thing, until NG+. It looks like also I can't level up until NG+ now.
-
Not the final boss fight I expected.
I was pissed about losing out on so much important shit in my first playthrough, so I ended the world.
-
OK the fractured world (mirror mode) is fucking with my head. I know Boletaria like the back of my hand. Well, I did.
-
I saved Ostrava this time, and got the mausoleum key. Also, I can already challenge the last boss again if I wanted.
-
-
Gargoyle bell rung in ng+. On the way to spider demon. No deaths yet but then again my damage output is killing everything before it can damage me. I'm very brittle though. I'm eating estus like candies. No armour apart from havel's pants and the boar helmet. Sif is breaking my heart.

Gravity got me.
Pride goeth.
-
Two lord souls down. Moving onto Bed of Chaos. My limited deaths is about to become losing souls deaths.
Getting super serious about acheivements. I've created an excel sheet.
I will save Solaire!
-
Going through the dlc now. Artorias is a completely different fight when you can only be hit twice and he has double HP in ng+. Also I'm getting constant invasions. My kdr has taken a hit. blue phantoms take their shit very seriously.
-
Manus is kicking my arse. I have no tactics nor muscle memory for this fight. I must of always killed him with Sif distracting him. I might have to revert to heavy armour and shield to get through this fight. Or maybe just get filtered. I'm doing this just for the acheivements at this stage and there is nothing in the dlc to get... I'm becoming a scrub
-
Finally beat the dlc. Reverted to hiding behind a shield for most of it though.

"So if we perfectly execute certain weapon switching actions starting from a load screen, we can skip every single cycle and keep bosses and enemies permanently locked in place," he explains. Kahmul isn't just swapping any weapons he chooses, it's a particular setup with a bow and rapier designed by AndrovT for reliably pulling off this glitch.
By keeping his character technically in this inactive state, it's as if Kahmul is stealthing past the game itself. If the game code doesn't recognize he's there, it won't turn on the bosses' AI to fight him.

My favourite podcasters are reviewing Elden Ring at last. Someone else has finally vocalised a thought I've always had about this series of games. It's Zelda but you're not embarrassed to talk about it in adult company.
I managed not to jump on the hype train and I've been extremely sceptical about the coverage of it from most angles. I got to admit though. I'm tempted to buy it now and spend my four day weekend next week playing it.
Anyone else playing it?
-
@DogsB I bought it, it's nice but I'm waiting for them to fix the stuttering issues on PC. There's a lot of speculation as to the cause of said stutters (because it's across the board and even people with an i9, 3800Ti and 64GB get those).
I'm also annoyed that they once again neglected 21:9 screens. There's some people who actually have fullscreen gameplay at the beginning and then a black bar begins to fade in after 30 seconds. Plus, there's a widescreen mod out there which enables that, seemingly without any further issues. So it's not as if the engine cannot handle it. Very weird.

Ooooh

Isn't it on the same page with the "easy mode"? If you can see more (Hor+), you can react earlier. If you can see less (Vert-), it's more difficult. So then everybody would not be on the same level.
-
@Applied-Mediocrity That won't usually help you in this game. You can typically see what's going to happen, but it doesn't help if your character's been staggered slightly by the last hit.
The Fire Giant is pretty neat when you get there.
Especially when he starts rolling around or swiping at you with his shield. Seeing that coming does not help at all; you just gotta be somewhere else. He's not even close to the hardest boss in the game. Malenia's much trickier.
-
@DogsB said in Just Souls Things:

I picked it up and have been playing. I haven't played much of the Souls games (a smidge of Dark Souls and a bit more of Dark Souls 3) but I'm enjoying it. It is absolutely frustrating sometimes when you get dogpiled and basically stunlocked by 3 or 4 enemies, and spending 6 hours on one boss seems like a lot, but damn if that feeling of satisfaction when I finally beat him wasn't glorious.
-
@dkf Every true rages about not being able to set FOV to some asspulled excessively high value that pincushion-distorts the image. I had assumed it would apply here as well.
-
I'm about 30 hours in. I think I've got most of the map explored. I'm getting discouraged with some of the many boss fights in the game. I still feel woefully underpowered.
-
@error said in Just Souls Things:

Including the Consecrated Snowfield and the Haligtree?
-

Same. I've managed to beat Horse Asshole in that initial area and the first "story boss", and have run around exploring and getting souls to get myself up to around level 30, but I still feel as squishy and whatnot as I ever have.
Maybe because I was putting my leveling points into Dex so I could wield that giant fuckoff golden halberd Horse Asshole drops...
