What other outcome could you possibly expect? Unless guns were also involved; then much happiness could be had.

@dkf Status: I went to get gas. Three stations I tried were out of regular and midgrade (loved the readable-from-the-window warning about regular with 4pt font warning about midgrade too). Two wouldn't let me pump anything but the third at least had premium (which I got a few gallons of because I was edging closer to E).
Even during Hurricane Katrina, I don't remember having trouble finding gas. I wonder if this is current economic policy at work or the fleet of Amazon vans roving from station to station like a swarm of locusts. Every day this place seems like "Pennsylvanistan" should be official...

No. I said, "gets offed" not "gets off". Not the same thing.
Very brief summary: The first generation of human colonists on a dangerous planet just barely survives. The second generation is now mostly late teens and full of the arrogant, rebellious self-confidence typical of that age. The alpha male of the second generation is gradually being shown to be not only especially arrogant, but also has some rather nasty personality traits. And the second generation is about to do something — I'm not yet sure exactly what — that will again threaten the colony's survival.

Yeah. Proactive karma. If your shit is finally actually about to work, something else breaks, of importance proportional to the debugging effort expended.
- If you're good, this happens before demo
- If you've angered the RNG, it happens at demo.

Pounded in the Ass by the Coronavirus, Hugh Gweener.

@dcon Books, plural. Trilogy; probably won't have YAS, because one of the authors is dead. Specifically, the "Heorot" series by Larry Niven, Jerry Pournelle, and Steven Barnes:
The Legacy of Heorot (The first sentence summarizes this book. It would be a spoiler, except the fact that there is a second book kinda gives away their survival.)
Beowulf's Children (This is the one I'm reading now.)
Starborn & Godsons (I started reading this one without realizing it was the third book in the series, so I know some of how the second generation effed-up in Beowulf's Children, but not all. I got about 1/3 of the way through it before putting it aside and starting the series from the beginning.)

We've literally been discussing for a half hour where to put the little feedback button on our site. Worse, we have a UX team that are supposed to be experts about this type of thing, and my boss doesn't want to ask them because he doesn't trust their judgement. Or the rest of our team's. Basically, we're going to debate this until everyone agrees with him.
Filed under: You can do it your own way, if it is done just how I say.

I just love A/B tests. Let's design the system so we can generate 2x as many bugs for the same feature!
Edit: Of course, we all know it will be more than 2x - because the code to do the A/B switch will have bugs too.

@dcon One of the many reasons I hate modern web development is that while it should be easy to put a relatively customizable UI in front of an API, nobody ever actually does it. They tie all sorts of functionality to the framework of the week only to introduce a ton of bugs and pushback when they unilaterally change it on everybody because reasons.

Status: One of my accounts is on a forum made by InvisionPower (IP.Board 3.4.8). This software pointedly and intentionally (well, back in 2013 up until some time later, possibly currently) disallows users from deleting their own account. Sysops had to install third-party hooks/plugins to enable this functionality, or manually acquiesce to requests from members.
Frankly, I'm surprised this little hole-in-the-wall is still running...
