Why, why the fuck did anyone bother to rescue a stingray. They killed Steve Irwin. But what have they done for us lately?

They must have done it for the pun shown in the Onebox.

Tempted to leave this in the garage but I feel this is a universial truth.
I've recently realized I like at least some K-Pop.
Now, in general, I enjoy pop, R&B, rap, some alternative.
Yes, I am that basic.
Playing "Just Dance Now" for exercise, I discovered a couple BlackPink songs. My 8 yo daughter likes them too.
And the boy bands are sooo pretty.
Do we have an embarrassed emoji?

After high school, nobody actually cares what music you enjoy. A few losers keep the pretense up until college, but after that...

It has rhythmic sounds. So, theoretically yes, it is.
It is a horrific industrial proto-music, over-commercialized, and produced with extreme cruelty to the "bands".
But it is technically music.

Depends which you're talking about. The sound itself is not music, but a recording of it might be.

Huh. Apparently, some losers keep the pretense up even later. TIL.
More seriously, I still listen to some J-Pop. (More specifically, a Pandora playlist created from the songs in anime I watched about 15 years ago.) I haven't sought out K-Pop, so I couldn't tell you how terrible it is or isn't, but it doesn't surprise me at all that K-Pop bands are treated just as badly as Japan's idol singers.

I didn't search it out, I was just trying different songs so I don't get bored. I think 'Kill this love' was on one of their playlists. I didn't even realized it was k-pop from the game because I'm not paying too much attention to the words, it wasn't until I put the song on my youtube playlist that I saw they weren't singing English (all the time).
I'm actually hoping karaoke has the couple songs I like and it provides phonetic letters to sing the Korean part.
As far as the boy bands, their videos entertain me, the music less so.
And they are pretty. Lots of colors.
So may be it is my daughter and I like BlackPink who happen to be k-pop.
Although, she is quite entertained by Gangum Style.

@TimeBandit Ehh. Better than some music I've heard over the years.
Gives me the feeling of "when does the intro end?" I keep waiting for the guitar solo to begin.
But most classical music gives me that same feeling. So, meh. Good enough.

@dkf Fun facts:
- The composer, Joaquín Rodrigo, was best known for his guitar music, but he did not play the guitar.
- Concierto de Aranjuez was written in 1939, at the end of the Spanish Civil War.
- Rodrigo was blind.
- The old man taking a bow at the end of the performance is Rodrigo, age 90 at the time of the performance.

Honestly, I'm entirely in favor of various people who created various memes/early-internet getting some money. A lot of those major memes became incredibly popular based on copyright infringement, but it's just not worth pursuing anyone over. And I'm entirely in favor of idiots paying for these early memes and code.
Never in a million years would I buy an NFT, but I'm glad those people are getting paid.

@Karla I agree that it would be the easiest way but I'm guessing they don't want to change it for something that sounds totally different, so that people used to the old name will still recognise the new name without too much effort. It's a research project, they're not going to run a multi-millions dollars ad campaign to get the new name widely known...
Something somewhat similar happened to a research group I was associated with. A software came out of the research and was named the same as the research group (because at that time no one knew either of those...). That software became successful and was bought by a company who developed it first in sync with the research group, then independently and in a different direction than where the research group was going. After a few years, the research group decided that this name was now causing confusion as people wanting to buy the software contacted them, or thought that they were still working alongside the commercial software.
So they decided to rename themselves, and the new name is totally different from the old one (and reflects what they now do). But for several years they still had to introduce themselves as "
new name
formerly known asold name
", which for a small research group who is already struggling to get any recognition, is far from ideal.
