Just look at those lines from a forum:Telling my eye doctor yesterday that I wanted 15X magnification added to my Rx of my “bug glasses.” He was calling them my ‘occupational glasses,’ I corrected him! I told him that sometimes you can’t tell the sex of insects without looking at the genitalia! I saw a grin come upon his face as he faced the pc screen. Hey, I didn’t say anything improper or suggestive. It’s “only nature!” I guess non-bug people aren’t use to hearing those words very often.

Generally, I find the MS (large) ergo mice are the best. I'm also using a Kensington ProFit Full Size mouse that I really like. I like the large size because I can just rest my hand on them.
Logitech TrackMan Marble FX FTW
HAIL no. Pool-ball size trackball is only trackball.

@Tsaukpaetra That looks interesting. If it's big enough to use with a foot, one might be able to solve the age-old problem of how to use a mouse without lifting a hand away from the keyboard.

There are plenty of foot mouse products if you want one.

Huh. TIL, I guess.
I did some brief googling around. Wasn't exactly blown away by what I could find on short notice. Big trackball looks most compelling still (looks like I'm not the first one to consider using the above as a foot mouse either).

Didn't know you used a joystick like that. Hopefully it's more classic Atari than Sidewinder-style head or you'll be spending a lot on proctologists.

The main quest, permadeath, pay-to-win mechanics on top of subscription fees, and romance options also suck. Should have spent more time on gameplay and less on graphics. 5/10, at least it hasn't crashed yet.

False. There are some poor souls who seem to make a sympathetic effort toward making sense nearly all the time, and it disgusts me.

Not just started, I also stopped it. Now I don't care whether I'm clear or not, and if anyone is confused about what I say, I just call them illiterate. I still have no idea why but somehow it made people understand my words better.
Also, I still don't know whether "unpaid overtime" is correct usage of the word. We've had a 300-post long back-and-forth in one topic where people simply refused to answer this simple question. But that was before I started calling @boomzilla illiterate on every occasion.

Personally, I use "overtime" to refer to any work beyond my normal schedule, and AFAIK, that's the standard practice.

To be fair to @Gąska, salaries in Poland work differently. The standard labour law contract specifies 40 hours per week as full-time employment, for a fixed monthly payment. Any overtime (hours above the aforementioned norm) entitles the employee to additional pay (adjusted for things like work during holidays or at night).
This is separate from arrangements where the employee is paid per hour, which is what I would call working for a wage in our context.
The US concept of "salaried workers" is, to me, just yer bog standard example of American crazy.
-
@GOG also worth mentioning that in Poland, employers forcing you into undocumented unpaid overtime (it's illegal but nobody cares) is much more common than paid overtime, especially in low-paying jobs.
-
@Gąska You're not wrong.

Though many places do offer either time in lieu future PTO credit or straight time cash compensation when you do have to work significant overtime as a salaried employee. It kind of varies with how skilled the position is though — most of the abuses and infamy come from things like line management at a fast food joint.
-
@Dragoon Sane people draw contracts along the lines of "this for that".
The Polish approach is "40 hours per week of my time is worth X PLN".
The American approach is "$X for 40 hours per week of your time, except when it's 60 hours, or maybe 80".
I mean, I get the business models behind gym memberships, say, where you're banking on the customer being too to get their money's worth, but it's not like salaried employees tend to work less than full time on a regular basis, is it?
-

Only twice have I broken 50 hrs in a week and one of those was my fault. The other I volunteered (truly, there was no expectation from anyone that I stay and help out) to help a colleague who was in a bind. Looking back, my average weekly hours are probably somewhere around 43-44, but I offset that with no questions when I take a 2hr lunch or have to leave at 1pm for a dentist appointment.
People let themselves get exploited far to often and that gives the wrong impression about what most businesses really expect from their salaried employees.
-
@Dragoon Honestly, it's not like the situation I outlined for Poland is how it always works in practice. Leaving aside the issue of unpaid overtime that mentioned, a lot of people prefer to take time in lieu as opposed to being paid overtime, for example. Specifics depend on the company.
That said, don't take me to seriously, this is TDWTF. Where would we be if we didn't make fun of the Foreign Barbarians?
-
@Dragoon said in Things that remind you of WDTWTF members:

Whereas my average back in Poland - and I'm pretty sure @GOG's average too - is below 40.1. And I've never worked less than 40 hours.

I've worked a month of 80-100 hour weeks. Didn't even get a thanks for saving the multinational corporations face. Never doing that shit again.
