@HardwareGeek it's a pity!

Jillian slings the Bag of Holding back on her back. "Well, let's get going then."
As far as I can tell, it was never off her back.

@PleegWat said in RPG: The End War:
@Gąska "Sure, go ahead," Jillian answers. She unslings the bag and holds it open. "Any jewelry on him?"
-
@HardwareGeek nevermind then.

Does anyone have anything further to do in-character before concluding this scene?
I just thought something, but it should be easy enough to retcon, if nobody objects.
I don't think we ever resolved Bob's status with the ex-prisoners. Why is he going to the monastery with us? Sure, he needs to rest and heal, too, but he was given an order to take the prisoners to [wherever we were headed; to scroll back and find the name]. I don't think his very limit mental capacity is capable of reasoning through the circumstances and overriding that order, even in the face of his own injuries.
I propose that one of us (it doesn't much matter who) gave him a direct order — "Atten-hut! About face! Forward march!" — so because he's incapable of comprehending conflicting orders or that none of us are technically authorized to give him an order, he simply does as ordered and follows us down the road. We can still discuss whether/how he's joining/assisting us later, but let's retcon something like this to get him to the monastery with us.

@PleegWat said in RPG: The End War:
"Means if we show up at the Earl's he's going to throw you in prison along with us."
@Gąska said in RPG: The End War:
"So... that makes me a prisoner too? Huh."
I say that's good enough and who cares anyway let's go forward with the story.
-
@Gąska Yeah, you as a player lost interest in that subplot when Mason came up with the letter. Caught me from left field too - I was mainly looking for clues on what the Earl wanted from me.
-
@PleegWat Sorry, maybe I made that a little bit too subtle? The implication was supposed to be that Jillian found dirt on him and he doesn't want her talking, so he's using trumped-up charges to get her hauled back to him in chains where she can be silenced.
-
@Gąska said in RPG: The End War:
"Oh, we're just prisoners," Bob chimes in. "We were being transported to Barreton for a trial."
Nice play
@Mason_Wheeler As I wrote the backstory, it's the youngest son she found dirt on. You know, heir, spare, surplus. She ran because the youngest son likely has a network that could make her life very difficult.
Based on the letter, the lieutenant knows there's something going on and sent her back, but she's still assuming the Earl himself probably isn't involved.
-
@PleegWat said in RPG: The End War (OOC thread):
Nice play
Anyone else get the impression that, once we reach the end of the campaign and are doing the epilogue, various characters will be off doing whatever... and then Bob will show up at the ruins of Barreton, dutifully looking around for whoever's in charge, to turn himself over for trial?
-
@Mason_Wheeler seeing how damage rolls are going so far, I'll be dead long before that.
-
@Gąska I don't know how long the party will stand Bob introducing them as escaped prisoners at every opportunity. Jillian's certainly cursing internally, but I wanted to commend the play OOC.
-
I managed to make the new player character hate the rest of the party right off the bat!

Toby Faire, Fal is an equal opportunity misanthrope. He probably wouldn't be that enamored if you were a train of Playmates.
-

train of Playmates.
"Jesus, all they do is wobble and talk, and their lack of pockets doesn't help their lack of carrying capacity."

@Vault_Dweller said in RPG: The End War:
Through the whole conversation, Nigrim is standing at the back, listening. He has a slightly amused smile on his face as he sees how most of the party are stumbling over their words trying to convince this Sister Constance that they're not that bad.
I mean, a paladin from this very monastery just saved us purely on a dream, brought us back here, and is now vouching for us. What do they expect will happen?
I think I (the player) need to learn to allow more time when a scene seems to have stagnated.

Not utterly suspicionifying yourself while explaining yourself would help too... words like
Look

to a high-Wis NPC are red flags to a bull.

I want to move the story forward but I don't think there's anything I can do right now.
The PC's probably want to sit down and talk and discuss whether they are a party. Maybe over lunch/dinner?

This presumes a sense of unity. For the sake of fairness, the conversation should be held on a featureless plain, like a Christian album cover.

Me too, but I don't think there's much I can do. Ruven is supposed to show us around, so I think the ball is in either @PotatoEngineer's or @Mason_Wheeler's court to tell us what we see as we walk around.

Well, I've done my bit. We're a little bit stalled until someone a bit more learned than us shows up.

serious tomes about demons.
As opposed to jovial tomes about demons?

@HardwareGeek check out NSFW thread (the one with anime tiddies).

@Gąska In a monestary though?

Nope. I've had that on "ignore" since it first began.
-
@PleegWat I think Monty Python made a movie about it.

"Books about demons? Huh, must be on the altar somewhere. Imma just gonna walk into this sermon and rifle through every book in, near, or on the altar... Get outta my way, Father..."
-
@Mason_Wheeler What time of day is it, assuming we've gotten settled in the guest house and eaten the food Ruven brought?
-
@HardwareGeek Getting along towards evening now, but there are a few hours of daylight left.
-
@Mason_Wheeler Thanks

Well, clearly a bunch of prisoners couldn't have done anything against the demon

@izzion I will fucking make sure you solo the next boss.

In all fairness, that was strictly an IC "burn", since Fal only heard that you all were prisoners and he didn't hear anything between the lines in Sister Constance's dialog after she read the letter, so he's still only aware of y'all as prisoners.
And he hasn't really experienced life outside of a temple or monastery walls at all - given up to the temple at birth, and he's been bounced around from temple to temple to monastery due to his own disciplinary problems. So his imagination is a bit more... sheltered...

Yeah, I know. I was just pretending to be mad
-
I'm assuming we will get a long rest before our next combat.
-
My take on the current scene is that we're waiting on @Mason_Wheeler for the dialogue between Fal and Brother Stillwater. I think it would be ideal if we could "retcon" it so that Jillian got to the laboratory in time to hear Fal's comments about Ruven taking down the demon by himself, but no strong opinion on that timing.
-
@izzion In my read, the party was gone before Brother Stillwater got in the picture so none of us know what he found on the corpse. I'm still somewhat exploring what kind of things Jillian likes being curious about, but I figured she'd chat with the alchemist and try to figure out any weaknesses. Maybe try to get some alchemical stuff that'd help against it.
But I really need to play that against Mason.
-
@PleegWat That said it makes sense that Brother Stillwater would investigate the creature in his lab, so there'd be some time delay between the encounter at the gate and the dissecting of the corpse. Jillian could well have been present at the dissecting.

I hope everything is ok, but he's MIA. He hasn't been online in 3 days.

Okay, now I'm getting worried.
-
@Gąska I like to imagine that Mason_Wheeler has never bothered to log onto TDWTF on his phone, and has been called away for a family emergency where his father insists on wearing a tutu to his ex-wife's wedding. And thus, there's a sitcom plot brewing, and Mason doesn't have access to TDWTF, but all will be well and all manner of thing will be silly.
I have access to some powerful self-delusions.

error_bot's dice module should be robust enough to do anything you need now. It's got variables, UDFs, recursion, ternary conditions, comparison operators...
And now it's got dice modifiers.
