they're sending me home after running tests, giving me steroids, nsaids, and an antibiotic. they took a chest xray. doctor says he thinks i have it. i'm to self isolate, take steroids and aspirin, keep taking deep breaths even though it hurts to do that

@Tsaukpaetra don't tracking numbers usually take 24 hours to show up?
Why should they? If they know enough to send me one, then the place that knows within minutes of changes should know it too.
We're at the end of four business days. Anyone want to tell me that the nightly batch process for moving a few numbers around didn't run for nearly a week (and counting)?
Been a week and both stores show nothing.
I'm beginning to think it really hasn't actually shipped and I've been lied to.
-
@error Gah, that sucks. I hope you'll get better soon!

@error Get well soon!

Also think about anyone you've been in close proximity with (being in the same enclosed space for more than a few minutes, or outside with without observing a 6' separation) over the past two weeks and let them know that they ought to get checked too.
Here's hoping you don't get to experience the worse ends of the disease.

@error Tax+fees: 28% I certainly hope there are some extra fees in there. Or that tax rate is seriously . Which leads to it being nice that you have fees on top of the delivery fees. (I just drive to my favorite place and pick it up. Cheaper, faster, and stays hotter.)

is that they (probably intentionally) lumped the tax and their fees together so you can't tell which is which. It's like Ryan Air offering flights for 10€ (+150€ fees).

There are extra fees in there, which you can see if you click to expand. I'm under doctor's orders to self-isolate for at least 2 weeks, so picking up myself is out of the question.
Of course, those orders are in no way enforceable or even communicated to anyone else besides me. That's probably why our containment efforts are so successful.

One does vote for politicians, old chum, so that goes without saying.

I read this as "back home after vomiting and visiting the in-laws. Am full of cake." It was a moment. And then @Gąska's comment below made it even worse.

@Unperverted-Vixen Status: I broke one of my monitors in my cable rearrangement efforts (nice circular black spot in the screen with rainbows, no idea how I did that). And now that I have KVM hooked directly up to my server (previously I relied on RDP), it's equally non-responsive.
Fortunately I had a spare monitor for now (brought home from work thanks to the pandemic), and SMB still works on the server, so spending money to replace both of those can wait.
(In theory I could just rebuild the server onto existing hardware, but it's seven years old and booting from an HDD. I've been wanting an SSD boot disk for a while, and I can probably get something more power-efficient. No, I don't have a backup of the server to restore to - ironically I noticed RDP was hosed when trying to sign in to set up backups. )
Really hope I can build a new domain controller without being able to log into the old one...
-

You can! So long as you have a working account that can join the domain.
In theory it should all Just Work once you install the domain controller role and join it to the domain, but I don't want to jinx it...
-
@Tsaukpaetra Good to know, thanks. Although apparently Windows Server 2019 dropped the Essentials role, so I need to rethink my entire network at this point... Sure, I could keep the domain going and keep Folder Redirection, but without Client Backups I'm missing half the point. I mean, I could stick with Server 2016 until 2027, but if I'm going to change to a dedicated NAS this seems like the time to do it...

Client Backups
I think I need to look into this feature, never saw a need if the main folders were redirected...
Edit: Though apparently if you have a 2016 install wim you can pull over the Essentials role manually...

Exactly as I thought. And because Poland has one of the greatest election rules in the world, we're getting a 2nd round with two best candidates - and that means we can tell the incumbent president Andrzej Dupa goodbye, because he's way below 50%. Today was a good day.

I wouldn't count our chickens just yet. There's always the option of some nasty shenanigans being pulled, either now or in the near future, but if the official results are in line with this, then I agree it's the best result we could have hoped for.
Also, my hypothesis that PiS has always had, and shall continue to retain, the support of ~25% the population once again finds confirmation. IOW, they only win when everyone else lets them win.

On 2016, yes.

IOW, they only win when everyone else lets them win.
You know, a significant part of PiS's success is the D'Hondt method. The opposition is very fragmented, and it's fragmented because the mainstream parties are all almost as unlikeable as PiS ("we'll give you all the same handouts, just with a bit less corruption!"), and it wouldn't even be a problem if we didn't have the retarded seat counting method that gives +50% boost to the frontrunner!
Okay, I'm done. I promise to keep further commentary in the garage.

I guess my next question would thus be: Do you need support for it?
By all accounts it apparently works even better in 2019 than it did 2016, reading through the comments, so the only reasons Microsoft is dropping it is they don't want to support it, not that it doesn't work perfectly fine with few-or-no modifications.
-

Only if the server does things you care about.

Sure but what about when some update or fix at some point in the next 6 years breaks it because Microsoft don't support it and didn't test it.
-
@Unperverted-Vixen said in The Official Status Thread:

I have both. Well, technically I have the domain controller in a mini VM inside the NAS since I don't really need a full desktop experience and don't use any features that would need it either.

This happens regularly to actively-in-support products? What makes you think that "in support" will prevent or alleviate this at all?
Any further discussion to be jeffed out of the status thread.

Support on software is about more than just calling up some Indian if it doesn't work. If you care about what the server does, you want it to have the best chance of continuing to work.

Yes, these things happen to supported products, so why the fuck would you accept the higher risk of an unsupported product?
What makes you think that "in support" will prevent or alleviate this at all?
Because some testing against updates is better than no testing. Because even if it does happen you're more likely to get a fix for whatever breaks if it's supported than if it's not.

I have no idea which parts of this are being sarcastic and which are not (not trolling, could be either way).
Also, from a shallow outside perspective, all your politicians appear to be assholes (), so I have no idea if (again from the same perspective) a change of president would be good or worse.
(For example, the media coverage here hasn't painted whatever changes were made to your judiciary to give more power to the executive in a particularly positive light, but I don't actually remember (or ever really knew) the details. It kind of sounded like the executive didn't like the courts' decisions so reduced the power of courts and term lengths of incumbent judges to get rid of them and stack with judges more sympathetic to them? As I said, I don't remember and might be getting this wildly wrong.)

Except for the intentional typo, everything is $100% true.

If I were to read both the words "good" and "worse" literally, the answer is neither.
If you have further questions, I'll happily answer them in garage.

Wow, I sure have gotten a lot of unsolicited medical advice from people with no background in healthcare today.
Everything from "don't take the antibiotics" to "just take a bunch of vitamins" to steam baths to "it's probably strep." Though the albuterol suggestion might actually help.

Aye, let me add some...
Everything from "don't take the antibiotics"
Why do they give you antibiotics for a virus infection?
Prevention against secondary infections?

Status: I'm at the point in my chair project where I need to design some shit in CAD. So what's a good CAD program? I've heard Sketchup recommended before, but it appears that only the web version is free for personal use, which sucks shit.
So what should I use? FreeCAD? Or is there something better?

Also, the least reassuring thing I've personally heard from a physician: "I know it hurts, but you need to keep taking deep breaths or that lung is going to collapse."
