Status: Going to buy a WiFi dongle for my desktop. The hotel room has a Cat6 jack in the wall, but it no worky. Need network for D&D game in just under an hour. Computer store is 8 minutes away.

@HardwareGeek Dang, the was a lot more painful than it should have been. Not buying the dongle, or installing it (although it wasn't exactly Plug-n-Play). No, it took a half hour for the stupid hotel portal to show up so I could actually connect to the network.

At least it's a lot cooler than yesterday, by a good 10+ °C. It's only about 20 and, despite the humidity, quite pleasant.
I'm still not sure where my jacket is, but the rain seems to have stopped, so it's time for me to walk over to the restroom and make some yellow rain.

Seems it's actually powered by Pandora? 🤷
Also, apparently it's been sending me channels "Just for you!" despite me never having been on the service until just two minutes ago. Seems I'm incredibly likely to want to listen to Howard Stern (whoever the fuck) because his name is plastered everywhere there isn't Christmas channels. Strike one.

Atazhaia 2 days agoStatus: Someone screwed with a rubber so hard it split into several pieces. Which was annoying, because I kept stepping on them as they ended up all over the floor. And I am a weirdo who walks around work barefoot or just in socks depending on season so I felt it very well.
Also trying to prepare for the business trip at end of month and how that will be arranged so I can prepare. Found out some more from a colleague this far, who had a bit more insight.
Reading about @Tsaukpaetra and his reboot issues reminded me that several of my systems had a kernel panic yesterday and has not yet been fully restored. Luckily I run all my systems in dedicated VMs with redundancy where available so I could function mostly normal at work today, just that my bootup time after the nightly maintenance routine was prolonged, meaning I spent the first two hours working very slowly.

Rhywden a day agoSo, my iPhone seems to have a problem where it looks like something (the battery?) is slightly pressing the display outwards - both long sides have a small displacement in the right/left middle between hull and screen which was not there before. Top and bottom don't display this gap. Pressing downwards gently makes the display move visibly.
Good thing I actually did opt for Apple Care+ this time so a display repair should only cost 29€. The phone is still working and I'll swing by the Apple Store on Tuesday so it kind of has to survive until then.

Statsu: To follow up from my post last week that disappeared without a trace, I manually changed the winter tires on both my parents' cars. This time I had to buy a new socket (because the craptacular adapter I bought that was supposed to let me use my 3/8" sockets with 1/2" breaker bar broke right half in two while loosening the third lugnut) and new torque wrench (the old one I had only went to 80 lb ft, but my parents cars both need 100 lb ft) which happened to be on sale.

I also just bought a new torque wrench as I needed one that did 30Nm and I only had 2-24Nm and 40-200Nm.

Yes, I copied the wrong number.
Cylinder head bolts. Normally I'd consider "close enough" and go for 24Nm-and-a-bit but this isn't one of those times.
