This definition doesn't seem very rigorous. As far as I can tell, 2019-04-07 will never end.

Wait! Isn't that just after the epoch?
-
@Tsaukpaetra I think technically there is no 3:00 am before the change, if that's what you're saying.
So rather than an infinite loop we get an unreachable condition.
-
Soon, we won't be able to say "last decade" to refer to times before 2010.

I've already started "twenty fucking years ago" for things that happened as late as 2006
-
Just to be on the safe side I refer to anything I did any time in the past as "a million years ago"
-
@hungrier And I tought that I was old

@TimeBandit Don't undersell yourself, you are after all a @boomzilla alt

I prefer to think of myself as a manifestation of ATG.

I use "back in the late Pleistocene".

Alternately, "back when @boomzilla was being told off somebody else's lawn"

Cough syrup isn't very targeted in its function. It just dulls your brain and the cough reflex along with it.

I say, "About a hundred years ago," that way they have to look at me for a second to try to figure out if it might be true.

Their math is off by 9 months.

"BioShock" is a very bad name for that game. To me it just sounds cheap somehow, it suggests "generic shooter with scary monsters and not much else".
-
@anonymous234 dunno. Sounds accurate.
-
Imagine if that first pterosaur genus had been called "dactyloptera". How much cooler a name is that? Maybe we'd have "sauroptera" as well.
-
Nudists don't seem to suffer from the original sin of eating the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge. It looks like they have a head start to heaven.

Right?!? I've always wondered what exactly was sinful about the "naked" human body... And what the actual difference between "nude" and "naked" is.
-
@Tsaukpaetra I'm glad we aren't flatmates.

@Gąska said in Random thought of the day:

That's not to say I don't try to respect and observe culture. Just that I don't intrinsically understand the meaning and purpose behind it.
-
@Tsaukpaetra there is no deeper meaning behind most social and cultural rituals. They came to being mostly by random chance. But the purpose is very real: to create a sense of identity and belonging in the community. Humans love identity and belonging. By doing things together with other, and doing the same things as others, a shared social and cultural identity is created and maintained. It's not logical, it's psychological. A time tested way of taking care of level 3 on Maslow's hierarchy of needs.
-
@Gąska But where does that fit on Maslow's hierarchy of nudes?

Just a little lower....

If Thanos killed a shitload of people in the last Avengers movie, and now they're going to fight back against him in retaliation, that means... they're finally actually avenging!

4chan's troll campaign has successfully convinced the mainstream media, as well as a decent part of US population, that is racist symbol. I think that classifying "Polak" as a racial slur and making "Pole" the official English term for my nationality could have had similar origins.
-
@Gąska I think some background would be helpful here. Is Polak maybe, a wholly acceptable Polish word for a Polish person? Anyways, the O.K. sign is an Illuminati thing. The W.P. sign takes two hands, if you want to do the proper Stephen Miller version.
-
@Gribnit You seem to imply that Stephen Miller is a white supremacist.
-
@pie_flavor You seem to be implying that he isn't.
-
@Gribnit Here, I'll do more than imply. Stephen Miller is not a white supremacist.
-
@pie_flavor Thanks, that really made me chuckle, while also raising my awareness of the depth of divide in our political opinions. But mostly chuckle.

Yes. It's how we normally call ourselves, it's how we've called ourselves since forever, it's what you'll find in every official document. Polak is to Poles what American is to Americans.
-
@Gąska Leave it to Polaks to use a slur as their self-describing term.
-
-
@Gąska Yeah, well, that's complicated.
And I thought it was a good parochialism joke.
-
@Gribnit I will note that you have carefully avoided saying the phrase in full.
-
@pie_flavor Where in the living fuck do you all keep getting these notebooks? I don't care, this fucking hospital is going paperless.

So are you now derailing so you don't have to explain yourself?Nope, because this isn't the fucking Garage. If you want to really get in depth, maybe start a thread about how not a white supremacist Stephen Miller is. I've mostly seen the other kind, but, then again, this isn't in fact the Garage.

/pol/ always "ironically" uses a symbol to "troll the media" into thinking that it's a racist thing, intentionally missing the point that they are one of the biggest hubs of internet racism, so it actually becomes a racist thing, which is why the media reports it.
-
@anonymous234 why the scare quotes? They are using it ironically. No one there actually believes their own hoax. It's not a racist symbol, has never been, no one ever used it that way. Compare it to 1488 - an actual nazi symbol that is used by nazis to identify each other and spread their message.
-
@anonymous234 said in Random thought of the day:

But not of internet racists. Important distinction. 4chan denizens just act horrible because it's funny to them and they have total anonymity; almost none of them actually think that way in real life. It's just a big agglomeration of edginess. 4chan adopting a symbol does not make it a racist symbol, it just makes it a 4chan symbol. Also, it didn't start with them using it, it started with several images explaining why it was a white supremacist symbol that were then sent to media outlets and spread around social media. I was there in the original thread where it started (and said that people could not possibly be stupid enough to fall for that).
