Poll (kinda): Help us settle the Sonic/obliviousness dispute
-
You know the computer can do other things beside TDWTF, right? And that there are many productivity applications and websites which you can use instead of shoving that all on this forum?
I mean never mind that it's annoying, it just makes no goddamn sense.
-
Valid points, all of them.
But have you really never done something simply because you could?
-

He's always been called Dr Eggman in Japan; the Robotnik name was coined for the US due to some sort of trademark issue or something (can't remember the exact reason), and Europe got the same name. But since Sonic Adventure, he's been known as Dr Eggman in every market.
-
What about grey robot sonic guy from death egg zone?
Enemies aren't characters, they are enemies.

Incorrect. He is Dr. Robotnik.

From the guy who listed Robotnik as a character.
Discoursistent!
@blakeyrat said:Incorrect. He is Dr. Robotnik.
Do you want to tell Sega of Japan, or shall I?
-

Bosses aren't enemies. Bosses are characters.
There is only one Sonic boss. It is Dr. Robotnik.
-
Incorrect. He is Dr. Robotnik.
Indeed. Threateningly Russian and references his robotic armies, as opposed to the just plain silly "Eggman", what the hell is that meant to even mean..,
-
Because he's meant to look a bit like an egg or something…
-
Are you literally retarded or can you not read what I just wrote:
Except you miss out on knowing the number of people who don't care vs. the number of people who care enough to choose an option.
-
Not to forget, the DEATH EGG didn't get renamed in the western releases.
EGG as in EGGMAN. It's not egg-shaped.
-

Number of people who don't care: more than 5 billion.

Also, the Wing Fortress in Sonic 2 has EGGMAN written on the side. Then of course there's the Egg-O-Matic.Remember: you're talking to a Sonicaholic

Is this where I admit I never got into any of the Sonic games and get blasted for being a hack when it comes to retro gaming?
Filed under: I blame false marketing!
-
I never played any fighting games.

I guess I am left with no choice but to treat this statement with the indifference it deserves!
-
it depends. have you played zelda?
-
it depends. have you played zelda?
Yes. Well, only completed the original. Since I live in a wonderful country where I couldn't play those games when they were still new I'm playing catchup, so I have this stupid idea of playing them in the chronological order (of release). Really need to sit down and finish Zelda 2. Tricky, that one.
I played the newer ones as well, but not until completion. I refuse to "cheat" by skipping 2 :P
-
Replying here because Sonics.

Marine the Raccoon? Fucking seriously?
Yes, she's an Australian wannabe pirate. The absolute worst thing about Sonic Rush Adventure which could be a decent game if someone removed all the stupid in it - and it's full of stupid - and the required ship minigames.
The only way to make it somewhat enjoyable is to let someone else unlock everything and only play normal stages via level select.
-
I liked 1, didn't like LttP and kind of got bored with LADX.
-
i feel your pain. i played them on emulators not so long ago.
some of the modern ones? Ocarina, Wind waker?
-
LttP was the one i enjoyed the most
-
I thought the canon was that his nickname is Eggman, but his full name was Ivo Robotnik?
Disclaimer: I've only played the first game and read maybe 1% of the comics, so my knowledge is likely miniscule compared to RacerProUK's.
EDIT: OK, also watched the entirety of Sonic X but I'm not sure how much of that is official canon since, from what I gather, Seasons 1+2 are an alternate universe rehash of the plots of Sonic Adventure 1 + 2 so I'm not sure how much they changed from the games.
-

OOT and Majora's Mask. Emulation is a pain. Need to get me some proper consoles, but I currently don't have a space to keep / hook them up properly.
Also, last I checked getting PAL consoles was a much bigger pain.
LttP was the one i enjoyed the most
Out of everything I tried I still like the original one the most.
-
Sonic Generations has a similar problem, where you can't play all the normal levels until you play enough of the idiot stupid moron side-missions which suck.

I played through and completed the game. How many missions did I do? Zero.

I tried playing the original once. It confused the hell out of me.

I've thought about getting Sonic Generations on Steam (it'd be the second Sonic game I've ever played, and the only modern one at that). How is it?

Pretty good. A bit short though…
-
Which one did you play before?
EDIT: Looked it up.You could get CD instead if you like 2D games. It's a little odd, but pretty good.
-
You need to do the side-missions to get the keys to "unlock" the next main mission.
-
Not that I recall; wasn't the next area unlocked by getting an Emerald?
-
He's tall and thin and isn't bald though... if he was short, fat and bald maybe it'd make a bit more sense. Still wouldn't be as threatening and evil as "Dr. Robotnik" though.
-

There's a 3rd option. Get a Wii or WiiU, buy the old NES, SNES, N64 games you want on the Virtual Console. Think it's 5 for NES, 8 for SNES, 10 for N64 titles.
-

You missed the "take a loan" part in that plan
But yeah, I considered that option. But I actually want at least a NES and a SNES in their original hardware glory. Because I'm weird like that.

He looks fat and bald to me… actually, you can sorta see the egg shape to his torso ;)
-
My mental image was way off...
-
Not that I recall; wasn't the next area unlocked by getting an Emerald?
I don't know what the fuck game you were playing. On my copy of Sonic Generations, each level required 3 keys to unlock the next. To get the 3 keys, you had to play the mini-game challenge things.
I don't remember seeing anything about emeralds.
-
I guess RaceProUK has a 3DS, while you have a real console.
-

Oh. I didn't know RaceProUK was 7.
I do own real consoles, but I played it on PC.
-
I guess RaceProUK has a 3DS
And a DS, a PSP, a Game Gear, a Game Boy Color, a PS2, a PS3, a PS4, an Xbox 360, a Wii, a Wii U, a Mega Drive, a Mega CD, a 32X, a Master System, and a Commodore 64.Oh, and a NeoGeo Pocket Color.
-
So, which one did you play Generations on?
-
You could get CD instead if you like 2D games. It's a little odd, but pretty good.
CD had good music but the game itself is kind of shit.
-
So, which one did you play Generations on?
PS3 and 3DS.So my memories are probably a little mixed up
-
-
Ok, it's not shitty, but why the fuck would you play it twice?
They have different zones, and I'm a collector.
-
-
Aren't those pretty rare?
They're not that rare; IIRC, they did make a couple of million…
-
I have two of em, one broken. I bought the first one when SNK shut down and they were clearing them out of stores (and of course got Match of the Millennium, the best portable fighter ever made), and the other one on ebay years later.
