The Polygeekery ban is a false flag operation!
-
So is supposedly banned. I don't actually believe this to be the case. I think he's decided to pretend to be a martyr for the cause, and added a "banned" badge to his own profile. He was unusually fervent in his attacks on the other moderator, but nothing particularly ban-worthy. And has declared not-it. Which leaves...
, or one of his alts, has banned , the Darth Vader to his Palpatine, which seems highly improbable.
Or has acted? This also seems improbable to the point of inconsiderable.
So I'm summoning to the Thunderdome to prove he's banned or not.

Since non-admins apparently can't see durations for temporary bans,
it's three days.

So what are the terms?
When fox was temp-banned, he had many explicit warnings of things to stop doing and was told not to repeat.
Also, how was his behavior objectively different than those he was responding to?
Sure, he may have escalated (he's an asshole ) but you can't escalate something that hasn't already started.
Yeah, I am biased, I like @Polygeekery and have similar political views so I'm being lumped into the same groups.
I live in an extremely blue city, in a blue state, the Garage gives me some respite being bombarded with hostility for having a different opinion than everyone around me.

I don't think it could have been self-inflicted. It would have to come from a mod/admin, which @Polygeekery is not.

Also, how was his behavior objectively different than those he was responding to?Yeah, this reeks. The rules, as far as I can tell, are "no spam". He sure hasn't broken that one, else we'd have seen significant jeffing. If a rule other than this has been employed, what is the rule? Who else has broken it? What behavior should be ceased? Could I unwittingly be banned tomorrow?

How many warnings were given?
My understanding is that Fox
andhad many warnings before he was banned for 24 hours. What makes this worse than Fox's behavior that it has a ban 3x as long?
-
@Karla Maybe they wanted him unavailable during the rest of his vacation, so that he can only post again when he might have less available time.

I agree with you, in part. It's not only spam that you can get temp-banned for, I think. @Polygeekery has gone almost full-Fox with eunuch thing. However, I can't understand the reason for the ban, unless he was actually asked to stop. So unless there were posts that got deleted, or PMs we don't have access to, this should get explained.
I'm a bit sad about this recent piece of drama. This board has its problems and we could discuss the echo chamber thing, or the fact that there is a certain lack of balance in garage, but this is something that we should deal with appropriately, by talking in a more cool-headed manner. And not by yelling at each other about alt-right and libtards.
As Trump would say, SAAAAAAD.
-
Just wanted to add: I don't condone his behavior. It was bad. I do believe he went overboard, even for our standards. But as we are a community without rules written down, we understand (as @pie_flavor and @Karla, and others?) said that people are banned for repeated unwanted behavior after being warned. Being an asshole or a raving dick was never enough.
-
@kt_ said in The Polygeekery ban is a false flag operation!:
eunuch thing.
As far as forum rules go don't thread on the mods/admins seems a common one
-
@kt_ I haven't even seen him spam anything, just argue in a thread that really should have been in the Garage but was in Meta instead. And he posted some Discord screenshots, but I'm assuming it's a public Discord so I don't think that's a problem either.
Either a bunch of posts got completely deleted, or he spammed someone's PMs.
Also where's @boomzilla? I wonder if he knows anything, but it seems he hasn't posted anything after the ban happened.

Well, what happens is, quite often the garage feels as a red state. I think it was you that used the term "libtard" in meta recently…
-
@kt_ said in The Polygeekery ban is a false flag operation!:

There are some vocal conservatives there, undeniably. However, there are also vocal liberals, and there is a lot of back-and-forth between them. Yesterday was certainly an example of that, though not a particularly good example, as there was much more heat than light. But both sides voice their opinions there, and as I've said, I've learned things from both sides. I don't understand the people who call it an echo chamber, because it is not, or doesn't seem to me, dominated by either side. (The voice that does tend to be missing is the middle. I try to fill that spot on some topics, at least.)

Look at the vote counts of cheap shot posts of “you’re a fucking nazi” vs “you’re a fucking commie”.
I’m not going to try ’s search, but I don’t expect them to be balanced.

-
@topspin Just posts in general. Fellow circle-jerking: easily at least 3. Stating an opposing position: insults and very often below -2.

I was enjoying insomnia, so I was watching pretty closely (while my cat snored beside me). I didn't see anything get deleted. But as the mods aren't saying anything, we don't know if it was PM or not.

@Deadfast You do know that Fox has the journalistic integrity of breitbart and the accuracy of a moron trying to give a speech on acid, right? Even just reading the article, it has two sources: a facebook post from a secondary source and a local news site that itself cites zero sources and adds nothing to the credibility of the story. Furthermore, it doesn't list the author of the article. Yet another perfect example of the shady practices that made Fox famous for being a fake news site. For all we know, this entire situation could be made up, and even assuming the local news site is telling the truth to the best of their ability, that still just means that the McD's franchise owner received a complaint and responded to that complaint in some fashion, which could just as easily have been to check security camera footage, see that the cop was not treated that way, and promptly ignore the complaint.
