@apapadimoulis I'd be the last person to say that the forums need to be cleaned up to be "civil", but they do need attention to stop them from being an alt-right hate filled Fox News talking point cesspool. If not for the user's sake, then at least for the sake of google algorithms. Get to know what your site is being associated with.

I've been here since 2013, and as I see it, the political leanings of this place have been pretty consistent. I know you've been here longer, so when do you think this shift occurred, if at all?
Get to know what your site is being associated with.
Who's doing the associating? One of the things I like about this place is that it presents an opportunity to see arguments and positions with which I am unaccustomed, which helps in both challenging and affirming my own positions.

First, it might be that I am more intellectually honest with myself about possibilities and motivation.
Second, it might be that I'm more literally honest and willing to say it out loud.
Third, it may be that I fundamentally disagree with him on matters of behavior and governance.

The funny thing is that these guys place "free speech" above everything else. There's a reason why we have rules in society regarding decorum and they have nothing to do with "oppression".
And yet I'm willing to bet that the same guys who think that absolute freedom without limits in regards to speech is somehow a worthwhile thing - those same guys will pretty much whine all day when confronted with people reared by a laissez-faire style of parenting and want nothing more to smack those children.
That's what you get when you have no rules: Childish behaviour. And, yes, I don't exempt myself from this. Shows that we're not that far away from the ape as we'd often like to think.

If they were my forums or I were acting on behalf of Alex, this place would get aggressively cropped back to technical topics to protect the brand. Period.

I enjoy your WTF Inc. stories. I disagree with your political views but not as much as I disagree with some other people here, or at least you're not as active in arguing your views as other people with whom I disagree. I also disagree with your moderation philosophy. The Garage has been leaking badly today, but I haven't seen anything worth a ban since @Fox got the hammer. Having said that, though, I wouldn't strongly object to some pruning of non-technical topics and a return to a narrower, though not exclusive, focus on technical WTFs.
I'd even go so far as to suggest that the Garage might have been a bad idea. I'm an active participant in the garage and enjoy making fun of stupid libtards as much as anyone, but some of it goes too far and breeds hostility instead of camaraderie — us against each other, instead of us against the common enemy of WTF.
