Happy new year. No-one famous has died. Yet...

Charlie Sheen

My money is on Stan Lee

I'm going to predict the same people as I did last year, since none of them were correct

probably mark hamill by heart attack

@masonwheeler And so it begins. Or ends, I suppose.
-
@scholrlea Kind of sad to see him be the first well-known person to die this year. Everyone's known for a while that his health was in decline, but still... :(
-
@masonwheeler It's weird to see him referred to without his middle initial. "Thomas Monson" vs "Thomas S Monson." But yes,

Yeah, that's where I am...since I pretty much can't think of any other famous people.

@karla How like a Leo to bring that up

spoiler alert
Nah, they killed his character already, there would be no fun in that.On the other hand, they might replace him (for the expected Jedi-ghost scene) by someone who actually knows how to act, for a change.
-
@remi Maybe they'll replace him with Peter Dinklage on stilts. But I was referring to the human.

Couldn't be worse. How could they keep the actor after Episode IV, is beyond me (his expression when he learns that the Princess is in a cell in the Death Star is... well, probably worse than any junior trainee actor could do). At least in Ep VIII they gave him a role with so little expression that he can pull it off reasonably well.
But I was referring to the human.
I know, I was trying to make a reference to how Han (the character) died but the actor is still alive, while the opposite happened to Leia.

@scholrlea
And inspired the chef in Ratatouille
-
@scholrlea It's kind of hard to remember because it has now become the rule for restaurants everywhere, but he spearheaded the renewal of cooking, the fact that the chef is now more important than the restaurant (before, you went to a restaurant without ever knowing the chef's name), that the chef goes out of the kitchen to see the clients and talk with them, that the kitchen is the centre instead of being relegated to a different floor etc.
OTOH, his days of glory were long past, it's been at least 20 years since he's really been relevant. Well, since he was 91, that's not very surprising...

One of her fears, the author told Mieville on Radio 4, was that her work and legacy wouldn't last once she's gone.
"Why do all women writers get forgotten extremely quickly?" she asked. "That's a real anxiety simply from watching what happens to women writers. They go much faster than men writers do."
I'm certain that she will be an exception to that.
-
@japonicus Seriously. Those books are amazing!

@pjh I especially like that the top and bottom are angled, but the sides are straight, so they don't actually fit together. Just like some things I've had to try to assemble.

They're not angled, they're curved. As long as the sides are sufficiently flexible, it should fit together.

@anotherusername Thin plywood is flexible (although it still resists bending), but it's not strong enough to make a coffin. Plywood that is sturdy enough for this purpose is not sufficiently flexible. Particle board, such as is used in cheap KD furniture, is not flexible at all; it just breaks.
Also, part of my point was that having to bend or otherwise finagle parts that should Just Work⢠to line up correctly is one of the major problems with KD furniture, in my experience.

@boomzilla For the benefit of those of us who are at work and can't watch the video, why is "commits suicide" in quotes there? Is there doubt as to the circumstances surrounding his death?
-
@masonwheeler Subeditor on meth? I dunno.

Nothing so sinister; it just indicates that it is a direct quote.
