Spent all day trying to work out why XUnit wasn't working correctly and failing tests (all tests work on the developers machine, and I had several people get the latest source and run the tests).
Turns out it was the XUnit runner had been depreciated and we should have been using dotnet test instead.
I am now signed up the Xunit mailing list.
-
@sweaty_gammon To clarify XUnit Runner wasn't working on TFS Online / Microsoft Devops / <Whatever they call it next week>.

If your beard is long enough and bushy enough, it kind of acts like a filter on its own.
An N95 rated beard... hmm...

Particulate filters aren't magic, and the ones they're talking about AREN'T particularly cheap. Pretty sure the best I've ever done is about $2 a pop in bulk.
Turns out I guessed right last week. I got N95 without actually knowing what rating I needed, but I was pretty sure the cheaper ones weren't good enough, and it was the best Lowe's had without going for a
full industrial respirator.
Come to think of it, I'm not sure they even had those. The N95 masks were $7.98 for a package of two, i.e., $3.99 each.

Status: Running the Windows Update Troubleshooter because Windows is having troubles installing the Windows Defender Definitions file ()
It's been about five minutes so far. What is taking so long to check a few registry entries? :/
-
@Tsaukpaetra it's probably using exponential algorithm to determine which of the updates that were ever installed require restart, and only then it filters by those that were installed in current session.
-
@Tsaukpaetra
That’s been broken for me since the FCU...
And, I installed that after a full nuke-n-pave as that was the only way to get the FCU to install on my machine. BTW, the trouble shooters and various suggestions on MS’s own site haven’t fixed jack shit. Now I just ignore the issue and installed Avast.

@Applied-Mediocrity Nah, Shlemiel just does O(n^2) for a linear problem. Windows update
does O(2^n)has supposedly been fixed at least 3 times since Windows XP. Or that’s what people tell me, it works now!

@topspin wait, what are you using for slides?
-
@Gąska Reveal.js exported from a Jupyter notebook. Uses Markdown for formatting.
In the notebook, missing closing tags didn’t spill into the next cell. But in reveal.js they did spill into the next slide.

So your audience won't get PowerPoint poisoning, but will catch another much worse illness instead - Angular SproutCore Knockout.

I don't know what these are, so maybe...

@topspin
Yes, well, they were about to include them in the latest revision of DSM-5, but didn't Node how to Express it.

Now that I'm thinking of it, those Jupyter notebooks (and, similarly, the Mathematica, Maple, etc. notebooks that have been around much longer) do kinda provide what @blakeyrat used to rant about:
Multimedia and rich text documentation right alongside your code.Of course he wouldn't count those, because

Status: Finally managed to get the Clonezilla server up, PXE boot is working and am currently creating an image from one of my Surfaces.
The final stumbling point was the requirement to change the kernel because the default one was a Debian one. Which, of course, thinks that anything 3rd party is of the devil which made network not work - which is slightly problematic for imaging over the network.
You'll note the irony that something I just loaded over the network then refuses to work with said network because bleh.
Of course I already had that one solved, actually, just wasn't able to discover that rightaway because the boot image hung while
trying to mount filesystem /proc
. But it only hangs once, a reboot will see that go away for whatever arcane reason.
-
@Rhywden Aaaaand I spoke to soon because if I set the Clonezilla server to "restore" mode then the other Surfaces will always hang after this
/proc
thingie. Thanks guys for neither adding a timeout (and an error) nor an error rightaway. Restore from USB drive it is, then.

Status: Speech day today in public speaking class. Easy as shit - just put my copyright spiel into the format she wanted and pared it down to eight minutes. But then there were the other speakers to watch, and what nobody could have predicted was that the guy two speeches before me gave a speech about why gun control is bad and the girl before me gave a speech about why we need more gun control. Arguing aside, that was pretty funny to watch because we chose our speech times in advance so it was completely random. We were all joking about whether the person after me would call for longer copyright durations. Well, I did a good bit of Disney-bashing in my speech, and the person after me... had their opening slide as an array of Disney princesses.

It turns on when you switch to it in your TV thanks to HDMI magic. I think you can even control it with your TV remote keys.
Turning other stuff off probably causes that signal.
-
@anonymous234 said in The Official Status Thread:

I haven't seen that behaviour, but mine does the other way: If the TV is off, turning the PS3 on will turn on the TV.
-
@hungrier it's called HDMI CEC. You can turn the device on or off via TV, and you can turn TV on or off via device. But each TV has a slightly different behavior. Mine, for example, turns on the device whenever I select input as the HDMI port with PS4 - which is annoying because PCs generally don't support CEC, so to connect my laptop, I have to turn on TV, and it picks whatever input was selected when it was last turned on - which usually is PS4.

That's probably how it is supposed to work.

I especially enjoy them when they're false positives generated by a manager looking at a specific subset of things rather than by anyone who knows what's really going on looking at the whole picture.
