The vast majority of people I know park in neutral unless they're on a particularly steep slope
If you have an automatic transmission, do you put it in Neutral and engage the parking brake?
But then, you also drive on the wrong side of the road

If your handbrake breaks and you're not parked on level ground, your car could move and hit something/someone.
Leaving it in 1st gear is an added safety.
Edit: Unless you have a rotary engine. Then it can still move fairly easily even in 1st gear

Also, they could always break out the window and release the parking brake... then two wheels will roll freely. And if it's a manual, they can put it into neutral.

There's a bug in a cinema's reservation system. It adds 10 to the number of seats available/overall:

On Windows 7 (probably since all the way back to 9x, or at least XP) when a DLL dependency is missing, you get a dialog saying:
The program can't start because msvcp140.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.
DLL load failed: The specified module could not be found.At least that that's what I seem to usually get in such cases. It's much less useful than your example (which DLL failed to load, which module could not be found? Who knows...), but still marginally better than
Nothing. You get a busy cursor for a fraction of a second and then the program just fails to load without any feedback whatsoever.
This seems to be a relatively recent trend (started by Apple AFAIKT) of the "must not ever show users error messages" brainworm variety, and I hate, hate, hate it. If something went wrong pretty please fucking tell me it went wrong so I can stop waiting to see if it might still happen (and thus would happen twice if I try again now) and move on to trying again / investigating the issue / giving up.

@Rhywden If access is needed, the firemen have axes and a big heavy truck; they can get the car out of the way pretty quickly and it will only cost them a vital minute or two so only a few people will die as a result. No problem!

I actually CTRLC'd that, so it's exactly what I get.

Yeah, the user may not care for the error message, but they then come to me to fix it, and everything is better than "it doesn't work". So show the damn error message already. (Of course I tested this before deployment to see if it works, but the error message helps me, too)

My parents. Almost caused me a heart attack the next morning when I lurched forward. I now double-check after anyone else has driven my truck.
Edit: though I will say my habit is mostly due to being in a bowl where there's no such thing as slope. I will adjust my habits e when abroad.

My manual car won't start unless the clutch is pressed. Putting it in neutral is optional.

Usually more like twice. If you shake it more than twice, you're playing with it.
Why do you need to check? When you push the clutch it's de facto in neutral anyway.
Because that way, I can release the clutch after it starts, without worrying about it being in gear.
I don't always want to start moving immediately, and it's one less thing to think about in case I want to idle for a couple of seconds.

Which means in the case of "oh noes, tried to open a large file" (even if 1MB is not at all large) it should release a large block of memory upon failure and recover to the point it was before.
If the system could do that, it would; it's only throwing the exception because it's absolutely nothing left. (With Java, you can configure the process to only use a fixed amount of memory so the crash just takes out the process and not the whole system, but that's usually cold comfort.) But with a big allocation, such as a large buffer for image manipulation in the sRGBA colour space, the chance of recovery is high, whereas if you were just asking for the space to allocate a small object (such as an exception!) then you're really completely stuck.
This just occurred to me†, but how many languages preallocate an OOM exception object to avoid the scenario of getting OOM while trying to create an OOM exception? I could see a program being able to recover by manually dropping some objects that can be recreated later but the system doesn't know that about them.
† I.e. I just thought of it; I didn't just get an OOM exception.

Yes, if you have auto-sync turned on and you connect your iDevice to a computer that doesn't have the iDevice's content, then that content gets erased from the iDevice.
If you have auto-sync turned off, then you can manage the iDevice's content however you prefer (except you can't copy from the iDevice to the computer).

Yay, Gmail update. And now hitting "Enter" to put a newline in the message often sends the email prematurely instead of inserting a newline.
So Enter and Ctrl+Enter swapped meanings? I can see nothing going wrong there! (at least I think ctrl+enter used to send...)
That's unfortunate and stupid. Is there a setting to change that back?
I usually use Shift+Enter to add a newline to text entry fields that I might expect to send what I've typed when I hit Enter (or Ctrl+Enter).
