@Tsaukpaetra
Did you look behind the unicorn?
-
@HardwareGeek, @anotherusername And why is ๏ฃ with the positives? It's neutral at most.
.. or negative...

What about.... ?

@Tsaukpaetra
Did you look behind the unicorn?What do you mean? I've been behind her the whole time!

I see the bikesheding is going strong here...
"Deciding whether to add reactions and how to do it is hard, let's debate instead whether

is lawful-neutral or chaotic-good!"

I think whatever it is, should be textual. Not for accessibility reasons, but to allow greater opportunity for deeper offense. Filed Under meets this criterion. Also you could spaff a bunch of emoji in there if you want. Whatever. It's Unicode. (Probably.)
-
@Gribnit I disagree. The whole discussion about which emojis are positive or negative shows that there is a much larger potential for ambiguity and meme-building with weird tiny images than with words.
And of all people, you should be the one favouring the maximum ambiguity and incomprehension...
Also, think of the wonder of what will happen if the pictures change at one update and suddenly the same picture takes on a different meaning (e.g. a "frowning" face that would go from looking like someone frowning in confusion to someone frowning in reprehension -- this isn't entirely speculation, see the gun emoji). All previous reactions using that emoji would change meaning, isn't that how the software world works nowadays?
More pragmatically, pushing for emojis guarantees that the bikeshedding will go on forever, which is the only way to ensure that this entirely moronic idea never gets off the ground in the first place.
-
@remi So filed under, but interpret emoji in that text?
-
@PleegWat If that's the most complicated thing you can think of, I guess that would do.
-
@remi You're right. Should probably go full markdown.
-
@PleegWat Sounds better. If you can't break it by using a syntax that anyone would reasonably expect to work, or use it to break the site's parser, or to cause some form of injection, then you've not thinking creatively enough.
If you can however ensure that this minor (and useless, IMO) "feature" will cause no end of further bug reports, and break all kind of weird and wonderful things, then you're Doing It Right!

Clearly, you haven't frequented a @ben_lubar administered forum for very long.
Really, we just need to start a pool for which random weekend day will have an unexpected container restart that results in the Reactions plugin suddenly "myseteriously self-enabling"

But a different dialect of markdown than the one we use for posts, for maximum confusion. Maybe asciidoc instead?

I prefer reStructuredText.

This is a programming forum. We should use full YAML, including all the parts that allow remote code executionโฆ
-
@dkf Why not the XML stuff which Mapnick uses? That has it all: XML, a programming interface integrated and SQL queries if you need live data!

Why not the XML stuff which Mapnick uses?
We'll just call the the XML parser from the YAML.

@dkf
I haven't flagged because I can't decide if this should go into the Nope thread or the Really, Really Stupid Ideas thread
