I now feel significantly less bad about spending too much on a 2080.
What? Doom 3 "barely ran" on my Radeon from 2003. Surely $100 should get you something much better than that.
You overestimate the progress rate of low-end GPUs. A current-gen $200 card is usually worse than top-end card from 6 years ago.

But that was 15 years ago. The number of pixel shader cores (or whatever the equivalent was back then) was in the low double digits.

I'm gearing up to try it after fixing all the shit that just broke when updating Bootstrap.
Updating all 50 packages (Except PayPal, which doesn't work because it only supports .Net Core as of 2.0) means I have a lot of sifting through:
*sigh*
I think I'll go eat lunch first...

Oh, so updating from Beta 3 to 4.0 should be fine. Well, fuckers, it's not! Unless of course they mean "v4.0 Beta 3", in which case, screw you!
I want the migration docs for moving to 4.0 from 3.0. Where's that, assholes???
Edit: BTW, if it's actually not "v4.0 Beta 3", then this is what "no breaking changes, but notable changes" looks like:
Awesome.

Status: Holy crap.
We've just bought another building, so I went to look at the IT fittings and fixtures.
The previous tenants left a lot of stuff we don't want behind including some brand-new lab glassware: flasks, bottles, and the like. While I was admiring a 1 litre round bottomed flask I joked that maybe the next box would have a Vigereaux column in it.
The next box had five. In different lengths. And the biggest Friedrichs condenser I've ever seen.
This is like buying a storage unit and finding out it was full of supercars. I'll have to ask if I can give these lovelies a home.
Edit: The IT infrastructure was mostly OK, it's all CAT5e at least and the sockets/19" frames aren't trashed.

Except this particular glass has ball and socket joints for the main connections, which I've never seen before. Maybe because it's bigger glassware than I'm used to?

Was that your conclusion or your management's?
-
@Gąska mine. Mainly because the event that got moved was an evaluation observation, so getting it over early today (since the busyness is later in the day) is better than doing it tomorrow, when I'm likely to be super tired from the busyness of tonight.

Although it also crashes a lot and I can't move the mouse vertically for some reason so I'm stuck looking at the floor.

For some reason his colleague's Labrador (which is a cross-breed with a crocodile) had a frog inside its' cloaca. Apparently the frog became dislodged in her room (possible fear reaction loosening some muscles?).

You need to frog blast the vent core.

Is that a thing? It reads like technobabble to me
All I know is that it's the emergency vent (so it goes outside with only a bit of a filter on it), not the main HVAC vent.

The absence of the return value is exactly what clues me to the fact that I'm doing the equivalent of
cat mylife.dat > /dev/null
.

More annoyed than anything. It's a recurrent phenomenon with me--I try to do something, try to make plans...and they fall through. Every stinking time. And it's never because of me. I first coined the "shouting into the void" phrase when I was looking for a job. I'd send out tons of applications...and hear absolutely nothing back. As if I had just sent them to

Why are you trying to run any 3D game in a VM with just the built-in support? That support is pretty much only on the level of handling desktop effects and will fail on anything more demanding. I wouldn't trust it to handle 3D games from the 90s in an acceptable way.

.I think life needs a 'reset default expectations' button. When I've been really happy, nothing has objectively been an order of magnitude better. I've just been more content with it for some reason.

Status: Visited a physiotherapist today to find out why my legs go ow when I walk. And in a backwards-to-usual thing I was told I should exercise less.
Most likely cause of leg pains is chronic compartment syndrome, meaning that the tissue surrounding the muscles is too tight to facilitate full expansion of them when the blood flow increases during exercise. I was recommended to try getting anatomical soles, because my feet are built in a way that puts more strain on the legs and the soles can help lessen the strain. And if it doesn't do much the next step would be to consider surgery. Yay...
So this would be the second exciting thing my body has invented that gives the choice between pain or surgery. Awesome~

@Gąska In Sweden it goes "Misfortune comes seldom alone." So here it could be any amount > 1.

-
@cheong why are Chinese proverbs always so long?
Also, I've been wondering recently - how does the Chinese writing system of slapping letter fragments on top of one another to create technically-single-character representation of every word, impact reading speed? Do you find it faster or slower to read than alphabet-based languages - and is the difference about the styles themselves, or is it just a matter of practicing one more than the other?
