Status: Installing Visual Studio 2017, because apparently that's what you need to open an Azure Function project. (see linked post)
So far I'm not totally hating the new installer.
-
@Tsaukpaetra that new installer is great but it frequently has to install updates for itself before it can install updates for Visual Studio.
-
@LB_ Yeah, I thought it was funny when it (slowly) downloaded a 64 MB "Update" to start the installation.

The term is so broad I'm not even sure where to begin.
Diagrams of cloud usage are easy! Draw a BIG cloud and put blobs in it for each service instance. Job done!

I've found some long Reddit thread about people being mad because someone said "Bumfuckistan".
I could only find regular Istan:

One of the comments references a story how everyone once lost their shit because someone called some country a shithole. Even though everyone agrees it really is a shithole. The funniest thing is that thread predates Trump's presidency by 4 years.
Is it Belgium?

On the 4th day, I can now say my way to go work has changed back to normal.
There are still people busy cutting fallen trees, but at least they don't get into my way.

Status: Tried to do something in the sandbox but have instead given my browser a persistent and severe case of jellypotato. I swear if I see that 'connection lost' box again...
Guess I better restart Vivaldi. I kept trying to post this and it's not working, just end up back in the composer eventually.

Status: Grumpy because a dependency of a dependency of a dependency is being a whiny little bitch about the environment on my development machine. Fucking python. Particularly galling is that the problem chain of dependencies only exists because of a part of the functionality which we're not actually using and which arguably belongs in a separate package.
I'm going to cheer myself up by deleting some unused code of mine. That always makes me feel better.

@dkf All of Azure is shitty and lazy like that.

In this case, it was a set algebra package bringing in a GUI. Because of course you want that.

Status: Things I've learned today:
- We have a type I'll call
D<T>
that we need to behave sort of likeNullable<T>
- it works fairly well. But in MSTest2 row tests, this type, which can only be created through implicit conversion fromstring
orT
, cannot be created through any kind of parameters, because theDataRowAttribute
ones aren't typed. - If a thing can be null and can be implicitly converted from a string, if null isn't specifically handled in the conversion, a null string can never convert - and even doing
?? null
still types your argument as a string, so you have to make a separateD<TSomething> nullTSomething = null
to use in place of null in the??
to make the conversion happen on the left side of that, instead of during the assignment.
So yeah, I now know more C# things.

Well, if he cuts his tires with C♯ they'll...
D♭
-
@JazzyJosh Erm, shouldn't they B♭?
-
@Rhywden No because C♯ == D♭
-
-
@Rhywden No, I know it's "They'll be flat". I changed it to fit. B♭ works as well, but I figured I'd make it be the same note. The consonants D and B sound similar.

Status: The guy who runs the office over in Outsource just sent our team and our team's superiors an angry, barely coherent email complaining that we're overworking the team assigned to work with us, that they're pulling late nights consistently past midnight and are suffering.
We just talked to them this morning and they didn't seem to have any kind of complaints - we've noticed that they work a bit slowly and are constantly asking us to fully define everything they do, but no one has even implied that they should work extra hours.
And I don't know why it got sent to me and the rest of the team members.

the data lake thing
So, in my explorations on how to actually munge the data, I was lead to create a U-SQL project, which uses usql scripts that are input as a job that, despite having no data in the system (except for a few garbage files) says it will cost $0.07 to run.
And I can also have a DataLake project, to toss a different type of usql scripts into (that don't have c# tagalongs on them) but can't be actually executed. Or something. It seems to build into some kind of package that I assume gets deployed by uploading it into the lake. Or something. Not very clear.
At some point in time there was a Data Lake Explorer thing that showed me all the tables and things, but that has disappeared and I can't find it any more.
Why is this hard?
Oh well, adding to source control so I don't lose what little dubious progress I have made...

"The guy" is angling for more money? And forgot to tell the team to play along?

They definitely couldn't B♯.

Status: Handling zombies slightly more effectively. Now players shouldn't be directed into them (hopefully), and they'll actually be properly killed!
This normally shouldn't be a thing to adjust for, but game servers that crash from PhysX being stupid don't fully crash. The game thread is merely put into an infinite wait state, and Master Server detects that it's not responsive and dutifully attempts to get all the players away from it.
However, since it's a zombie, this doesn't usually work, and so it proceeds to mark it as "You should really kill this on the next status refresh".
Except, the refresh doesn't exactly pick up that it should actually really be killed, because it still technically has a connection.
So now I added a command to explicitly kill the connection when the level instance is intentionally being killed, and (in theory) all is well. We'll see...

@Tsaukpaetra I have considered trying Hypatia, but the more you talk about it, the more worried I become.

Only in 12-tone equal temperament. In any other tuning, they are almost, but not quite, equal.

"Working at the JobCentre has to be a tense job – knowing that if you get fired, you still have to come in the next day” paraphernalia.

@Magus said in The Official Status Thread:

Complaining to customers about work is a quick way to get fired. Maybe the e-mail guy is the only one that is allowed to negotiate that.

Status: My graphics card may ship today. Amazon has not updated anything on their site, but I imagine when I go to get lunch, the box will just be there... Or they wont bring it until next week, which would be lame. They should bring it today. That would really be great.

Maybe one day we'll get the right sort of management who can realise that the PM/TPMs we have in charge of some big critical projects are unqualified, inexperienced morons....
-
@Magus Mind over matter. Or in this case, mine over package tracking.
-
@blakeyrat Your typo, and I don't mean this as an insult in any way, made me consider making the first game once the card is in be Minecraft, but I have to stick with tradition and make it Warcraft 3 - the feeling of such needless power backing something that cant even use it is glorious.
-
@Magus Break out DOSBox then.
-
It said today by 8pm an hour ago. They'd better actually give me what they sold me and said they'd deliver.
-
@Magus Wow I looked up the price on those and they're worth more than my entire computer, including the 2 TB SSD I just put in it.
-
@Magus What in the world makes it acceptable to list the date you will get someone something, ON THAT DAY, with their money in hand, and tell them you'll give it to them later, after they EXPLICITLY spent money to have it on a certain day?
-
@blakeyrat Its not the TI.
-
@Magus I'm still seeing a list price of $800, moneybags.
-
@blakeyrat Sure, but a gaming PC with an SSD under $1000, which you apparently managed, doesn't sound very easy to do and be able to run things on.
