Google planning to shut down Inbox app
-
Pity. I preferred using Inbox over Gmail.
-
Eh, I could never get it to fit in my workflow, and now I have hundreds of messages in my inbox because I couldn't figure out how to do labels properly in Inbox (among other things)...
-
It seems like most of Inbox's features are in GMail now anyway.
-
@e4tmyl33t Didn't they JUST release it? Christ.
-
Dang, I liked Inbox. Much prettier.
-
@blakeyrat don't worry, they'll make two more remakes soon enough, if their library of chat apps is anything to go by.

Yeah, we're due for a new round of chat apps. They're not neglecting their old ones, though, as they took away all the custom colors from Messages.

Good news, they're also completely redoing GMails UI, because fuck you.

All about looks with you iDiots. You don't understand that for the same price you can have a 1.1% faster app with a 2.3% better spam filter!

What would be nice would be if they'd add support for creating a Home screen shortcut that opens a particular mailbox. Maybe allow the icon to be customized (select from a handful of different styles, or use the logo for that mailbox's service -- Exchange, Google, Yahoo!, ...).

Possible in Oreo and up for the first part. Second part is dependant on your launcher.
No screenshots as that would be doxxy.

That should not be something that depends on the latest Android version. On the version of Android that I'm currently using, Maps is able to put a shortcut on the Home screen with a preset destination programmed in, so GMail should be capable of doing the same thing with a preset account/folder view.
Second part is dependant on your launcher.
The icon that Maps uses for a destination shortcut is different from the app's default icon, so it's possible to do it somehow.

All I know is that before I had to use widgets and those typically only supported labels (and couldn't be adjusted as far as icon).

Is there a more general "Google is shutting down a useful service" thread? Anyway
What
iswas it? A way for Youtube streamers to do a show where multiple people can speak and/or show video.Sounds pretty useful, why get rid of it? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Is there any replacement? You can manually kludge something together with Skype and OBS maybe

Which isn't all that hard, TBH. So long as you're a fan of Linux-y interfaces.

@LB_ I've even posted in that thread before.
