No. His handwriting had more fancy loops, so much so that it was impossible to really tell letters apart, or even figure out the word boundaries sometimes. It was extremely elegant — no way can I write with such a fine hand — but simply impossible to actually read.

Download in progress. Steam was being pessimistic; only about 9 days to go.

So tempting, but I promised I'd complete a design this weekend so I'm stuck doing schematic capture and wishing I was trying ESO instead.
And I'm away in Germany next week so I'll have to wait for the next free period I guess.

This is capture for circuit design so all at component level. All it does is digitise a mechanical control and send it over an RS845 bus, but it has to be ISO 26262 compliant and operate in an electrically hostile environment so there's a bit of fun there. I've just finished a SEPIC converter for the primary power-supply, that was a bit of variety and I have buck-boost in a tiny footprint which is nice...efficiency sucks though at 86%!

status: was about to complain about Slack not having a way to Shortcut To a workspace (since I have two now) until I tap-held the Slack icon to see a context menu to drag out shortcuts to them! Ingenious!
And people are won't to say nothing's changed in Android! Back in the day, you had to make a widget that remembered your selection. It was a lot of cruft to program (and use) just to make a Shortcut on your desktop.
I am satisfied.

TIL Google Maps has a train line indicator, saying where you are along the train line without extra map stuff. And it's completely useless because it goes off of time of day, not location, so a late train breaks it.

I wonder if this same failing occurs with bus routes?

They have some sort of integration thing going on, depending on the quality of the current schedule information they can reap from the train company and/or transit authority. They may also be able to use location data from other people? I've not investigated closely because it's ridiculously over-conservative for connections and I have other apps that use official sources (and have a useful set of defaults). And which would be of no use at all to you as you're on a different continent…
-
@dkf Those companies all have public APIs, which Google constantly visits. Your connection may be super-conservative, but the data gets aggregated at Google and then gets sent to your phone. I find that bus predictions are generally shit, because bus drivers don't actually care enough to report latenesses since there's one every fifteen minutes, but train predictions are usually correct down to how late they are, and if it's in navigation mode it'll even tell me when it's time to get off. But strangely this one particular view just depends on time of day based on official schedule.
-
@stillwater Didn't do it for me. However I discovered how well bassline music makes you tune out walking, which is nice when you're walking for 45 minutes.
-
Status: Train ride back was even more fun. Because at one point I looked at the station outside, and I looked at the train map, and I thought to myself 'OK, get off at the next station', and I ignored the stop that said 'only on weekends' because it was Friday. Turns out it was actually Saturday and I had to walk 45 minutes home.
-

I suspect that bus control centres round here pull that information automatically from the buses, rather than via manual intervention by the drivers. Not that I know really; I hardly ever take the bus (since they're not configured for people with legs as long as mine).

Our ticket app for the German train system has a similar feature. It even allows you to "check in" when in a high-speed train where they tell you that thus the conductor doesn't need to check your ticket anymore (I'm not sure how the conductor is supposed to know that without checking my ticket, though, I mean, there's no photo of me anywhere...).
Anyways, I recently booked a ticket through this app and wasn't able to reach my connecting train to Hamburg because my current train was late. What plops up while I'm still in the late train? "Welcome to your ICE to Hamburg!"

Just managed to cancel a file copy operation that popped-up and stole focus while I was typing. Now I have an inconsistant copy so I'm going to have to re-run the whole thing. Amazing.
Maybe I'll use Robocopy this time and at least if will be easier to continue when it does it again.
Android Studio update also stole focus, twice, while I was trying to type this. I'm almost motivated to see if someone's already made something that eats

Status:Aluminium is the worst of the worst.
Work wanted plugs in an aluminium prototype part welded and asked if I could TIG it. I've done loads of mild steel and stainless, how hard could it be?
First try looked great but every weld was porous at 40PSI. Grind and try again and 1 leak. Next attempt, 1 leak...but in a different place. And so on.
It's now about 50% filler rod but the sodding thing has finally stopped leaking. Never again.I recently bought a cheap multiprocess welder. It can do stick, TIG, and plasma cutting, although I initially bought it just for the stick welder. Then I did some research on aluminum and TIG because I could find some things to do with it, and found that you are supposed to use AC TIG on aluminum but my machine is DC-only. Some guys say it can be done but it's tricky.
Am I TRWTF if I go ahead and try to learn DC TIG welding on aluminum, having never used a TIG before? (I do have lots of oxyfuel welding experience, which apparently is also weird and possibly a WTF.)
I finally tried to use the plasma cutter this weekend. First off, I borrowed a friend's 2-gallon air compressor. Not nearly enough air or pressure, which I kind of expected. Also, it's been a very long time since I've used a plasma cutter, but this one is a scratch-start with no pilot arc and I never knew such a thing existed.

I hate computers.Managed to complete the application the next morning using the leasing office's computer, on which the website worked perfectly (of course). Both of my kids will be living with me, at least temporarily, so they had to fill out applications, too, which they were able to do on their own computers (they'd had the same problems as I did the night before).
Approved almost instantly, and was able to sign the lease online using my own computer, although it still takes ridiculously long for DocuSign to load documents — 1–2 minutes — but at least it did load before the inactivity timeout expired. Speaking of which, it's ridiculously short for reading 30+ pages of legalese, and when it expires, even if you click OK to continue, it resets to the beginning of the documents (the lease itself is 10 pages, plus a bunch of addenda — pet addendum, community rules, flood zone addendum, asbestos disclosure addendum, parking addendum, mould addendum, I don't even remember half of them), with nothing other than the scrollbar position to indicate where you were before it reset. At least it did remember what you had already signed, so that's one thing they got right.
Now I just need to figure out what the actual address is, so I can get renter's insurance, utilities, etc. set up. The apartment complex is at 123 Main Street, and I'm renting apartment #4567, so you'd think the address would be 123 Main Street #4567, right? But the information they sent me says, "Welcome, your new address is 321 Side Street #7." The only thing those addresses have in common is the last digit of the apartment number.
Anyway, who wants to help me move this weekend?
