- The whole notion of only children using velcro because they are not capable of wielding the awesome technology of "a piece of string" is bullshit anyway. What is the advantage of shoelaces? Like, a proper advantage? See, training wheels on a bike restrict your ability to turn quickly, they really are a detriment and you should get rid of them. What in the holy fuck is the problem with velcro? Someone enlighten me, please!

Velcroes do look ugly on shoes. I also don't like shoelaces. There are shoes out there exactly like the one from the video but without the laces. They look equally classy. No velcro. No laces either. Win-win.

That's what I always buy, on the shoes front at least. I go velcro on sneakers because I want something that's sure to hold on tight if I run.
Not to say I don't have pairs with laces. I just hate that aspect of them.

@onyx I agree so much. I still remember being told I was not supposed to wear velcro anymore because it was for children. I argued so much but eventually gave in.
It's so damn terrible. Velcro is simply better in every way, but noooo, arbitrary social norms.
But what I hate even more is that some day, someone with more social influence than me will actually start breaking this norm, and then some people will follow them, and eventually shoelaces will have disappeared, and everyone will praise them for being so brave and innovative and will wonder why anyone else hadn't thought of that before.

@anonymous234 I did not know this was a huge fucking problem. Maybe not for me cos I stopped wearing shoes with laces when I was like 13 because they got undone like 25 times a day. It was all shoes without laces or velcro for that matter. Even strapping the velcro together and then off seems like work. I can only imagine what people with shoelaces are going through.

- Dog/cat hair.
- Noisy.
Of course, it doesn't become a permanent knot. Wet shoelaces anyone?

I had a pair of shoes for a while that had laces and then there was a Velcro flap that covered up the laces. They also looked astoundingly ugly - silvery gray with neon orange and neon yellow. Lasted longer than most though.

Uh? Only the cheaper ones have velcro, more expensive ones have a twist or pull thingy. Point being they can be readjusted single handed.
Then again ... those fall in the sports shoes category. However fancy the are you can't look good hobbeling around and making tap dance noises while wearing bike shoes. And a spandex short with a build in diaper doesn't help either.

What is the advantage of shoelaces? Like, a proper advantage?
I have oddly shaped feet, apparently. (In part due to a childhood injury to my right foot, but I have similar problems with my left as well; they wind up being oddly shaped in different places.) With shoelaces I can tighten the shoe to fit my feet much better; velcro fasteners don't allow the same precision, since there's usually only two. When I wear shoes with velcro fasteners my feet slide around more and I end up with very sore feet.

- Sneakers for old people. This is what I think of when I think of Velcro shoes, and I'm not that old, yet.
