Google Music?
Buggy on my phone. :/

Amazon offers it but the usability of their app is beyond horseshit.
TELL ME ABOUT IT HOLY SHIT!!!
I sometimes open the app to see how far someone could go in making UX suck. Sucks so hard. POS. UI/UX sucks on AWS too but I get strange looks if I say that out loud.

Your teacher is a Cunt. That's way fucking late on the worst day of the week to be taking a test on.
-
@stillwater not to mention it's a week after the school year formally ended!
-
@gąska Either the teacher's resting state is a cunt or y'all did something to reaaaallllyyyyy piss him off. I've seen professors do weird shit like this when they were pissed off.
Good luck with the Test though.
-
@stillwater we didn't do anything out of ordinary. We just took seats too close to each other. After he told us to space out, we tried to do our best (he didn't even say how much space to leave!) - but 60 seconds later, he said "I take it as no", and left.
We knew for a long time that he is an asshole. But this is a whole new level of asshole.

I could always get an iPhone in the assumption that itunes would work better than on an Android but I'm not paying through the roof for a fucking phone. Nopesies.

Can anyone tell me what's the US version of something like the Jeremy Kyle show?

@stillwater said in The Official Status Thread:

Well, you'd assume that...
(Also, FWIW, Apple Music does have an app for Android phones too.)

Yes which borke in all sort of weird ways which led me to uninstall Apple music from my phone and iTunes from my PC. It should not feel like an obstacle course to open an app and listen to a goddamn song.
-
@stillwater Works on my phone. Except for the times Apple Music encounters a bad connection(?) and starts skipping songs after playing ~10s, but that happens regardless of device (Andoid phone, iPad, Windows computer, Apple computer).
-
@atazhaia said in The Official Status Thread:

Can confirm. Bad connection borks the app badly. My issues are the playlist takes forever to load, all i see is a spinning wheel thingy if it is streaming music. When it comes to offline listening, sometimes the song pauses for no reason. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Nothing worked. I would have put up with this nonsense except that I listen to music only just before bed for ~30 mins and ended up spending 10 mins fighting with the app. I'm done.
-
@stillwater I do prefer Spotify over Apple Music, but Apple Music has more of the music that I listen to. So good UX with smaller music selection, or bad UX with larger music selection.

UI/UX sucks on AWS too but I get strange looks if I say that out loud.I think the Amazon music app is ok, but a) it requires Prime to use it and b) the music discovery/"radio" feature isn't great. Back when Spotify offered artist/song/etc radio in their free service, that was better.

So does anyone have any clue why electric scooters have suddenly started replacing [electric or not] bicycles for city mobility? It just seems so arbitrary.

It's new(er) shiny tech, so you have more chance of bilking some money out of wide-eyed investors to draw a mammonistic salary...and then go bankrupt and move on to the next legal scam.
-
@anonymous234 Bicycles can be stolen and repurposed easier (since you don't need a key to start them). Scooters are self-locking.
Plus the effort/looks. People are stupid, after all.

@blakeyrat Even I, who dislike Halo immensely, agree that the controls for vehicles are pretty great. I think UT3 eventually did everything about vehicles better, but no one but me liked that game.

Status: popped a caffeine tablet this morning for the first time in a long time and still almost can't tell I took it. Last night was a long night.
Our sick, elderly cat (which has been my wife's cat for almost its entire life) took a turn for the worse, so sometime after 11 PM my wife took it to the emergency vet. I stayed home to try to sleep, because work, but failed to really get any sleep. A few hours later she called to tell me that the results of their tests were grim and she was having it put down. This came not completely as a surprise, due to the cat's overall age and condition, but was still unexpectedly soon, and now I really wish I had gotten dressed and gone to the vet with her, partly to be with my wife and partly to say goodbye to the cat. It's not like I got any sleep anyway.
Then she got home and spent the rest of the night crying until around 4 or 5 in the morning, at which point she finally fell asleep, at which point I didn't have enough time to really fall asleep and get any rest, even if I'd been able to. So now I feel like I was up all night, which I basically was.
We still have one cat which is actually the same age as the other was but thankfully it is still in good health. I'm dreading the time when we lose it, more than anything else because my wife will really fall apart then.
And this is why I really don't want to have pets. They don't live long enough, and it's just too hard when it's time to say goodbye. And on top of them dying, the veterinary expenses don't help with the overall stress levels. :(
-
@anotherusername oh god I'm sorry about your loss. I lost a cat once and it broke me real hard. Ummm moving the scenario of the other cat eventually reaching its end over the vet expenses thing, up the stack for a moment; Have you thought about getting another cat maybe?
-
@stillwater said in The Official Status Thread:

Yes, and I really don't want to, because I don't want to get attached to it and then go through losing that one as well. It's just not worth it.
I do not, however, recall having that conversation with my wife, and I'm kind of dreading whether it'll come up.

next time, have fish for pets. if they die, you can just throw them down the drain or something.

Feed the dead fish to the cats. Problem solved.
-
@anotherusername Why did you go to work?
That said I feel you. Blakeycat's well over 15 years old now...
-
Status: Holy crap, since when did Windows console windows have search capabilities?!?
-
@blakeyrat well, if it was entirely up to me, I'd tell myself that it was her time to go and then I'd try to move on as usual and not think about it. But I did end up going home, because my wife texted and said she needed me to come keep her company. So I got to listen to her talking about how much she misses her kitty and scrolling through all the photos of it she has on her phone and dammit if I didn't shed some tears too.

Would complaining (formally) to the dean help?

For me, it is worth it (dogs, tho). It hurts like hell when it's time (yes, I bawled my eyes out - both when I realized it was time and as she went to sleep in my arms at the vet), but the journey was worth it.
-
@dcon it definitely wouldn't help us graduating, now or in the future. But I'm going to consult it with the rest of class (if they show up), and we might decide to do it anyway. 50 complaints might do less collateral damage than just 1. Though I doubt there will be any consequences for the teacher except maybe stern talking to.

Status: Dammit YouTube, notifications aren't hard!
I thought it was weird there were no new notifications for subscribed content. Turns out nearly everyone had new videos available but it just decided not to notify me.
Possibly being logged in on about 6 devices has confused it, I'll log everything out and then back in again...
-
@cursorkeys I've heard they were doing some more algorithmic bullshit in the subscriptions, so you may just be on the receiving end of this helpful new feature that takes your subs and notification bells and completely ignores them in favour of whatever they decide you should see.

Awesome, that would explain the garbage clickbait videos that have started cluttering up my main page then.
-

Yes. YouTube has a habit of downgrading your Bell if you don't immediately and continuously watch a channel's videos the day they come out.
This damn thing continuously gets turned into a crossed-out one all the friggin time...
-
@anotherusername That just proves you're human.

I'm not logged in on anything, but I should be getting emails. I'm not.

Does anyone else get the impression that there are fewer wireless mice today than 5 years ago? As if we collectively decided they are a bad idea and just went back?
